Jack Collin's P.O.V

...

I am not the only traveller. The only man trenched in this filth-pitted grave; abandoned boots, discarded rifles and shattered helmets to pave the passage you journey. Don't look. Don't see. Stay in the safety of this sacred, perverted death wall. The only carriage willing to carry, only shelter one's to seek in a perpetual death inducing land. Above you with greater chance, bullets may fire, mines may implode and your friends may haunt. Cling to the salty earth we provide; to the bones, the limbs, the rolling heads we part for it may be the respite you need. Such refuge is all that is left; we pray it gives you peace.

It's picked up. Flown to the wind. This wretched sentiment. Shrewd and sage memories disrespected, trampled on to see clearly. Through a haze of a disappearing world, you take sight of another one. We pray it gives you peace they say, but you find no safe haven in the sky. No carriage or shelter. The stinging in your eyes is the only singular constant, here before, here now. Your uniform, the newest thing; the smell however, old. It sends you away to your mother, or perhaps, your father too. Where, in dreams they bathe you in their private apartment, before any other commitment had ever arrived, soft and gentle smells. This lovely sense, you dote, the only trail of the place you call home, calms you. Though in this spitfire, what remains thereof is questionable. Your mind no longer encased in the skull, but rather on the propeller of the plane, knows only the field. Any yearning interpretation inside therefore, is doubtful.

"Shall we take this away?" The G force roars in your ears. How formidable the wind that blows in the contrary direction that it may subtract from a voice of a familiar. Its drive incomparable to the ambition the war ever had.

"I hear you Tom." Together, with your bastard friend in the highly obnoxious front position, you swoop down to the world below. White is all you see, and it's the least frightening moment in all your flying career.
