Everyone has a bad day
Chapter 12
"Hey!" Alan shouted from the living room. "It's on!"
The family walked into the room and turned to the TV where Lesley Hofstead was standing in front of the federal building in LA.
"As you know, International Rescue is no longer under investigation and have continued to provide their services to the world." Hofstead said into the microphone. "They were given a pardon as the medical examiner found that the man on the bridge died from initial impact of his car into another vehicle."
"What about International Rescue?" Someone asked. "Are they going to be working alongside the government?"
"International Rescue are going to go back to doing what they do best. Saving people and leaving everyone else to clean up their messes." He said, making Evie grind her teeth. "It is my belief that International Rescue should only go on rescues that the government have authorised them to go on and only take actions that the government deem acceptable, but I appear to be the only person with this belief." Rebecca looked around the room and saw Evie walk out of the house and disappear into the jungle.
"I'll be right back." She whispered to Rachel and followed the female Tracy, knowing exactly where she was going. John had been back on Thunderbird 5 for a few days now and Rebecca had made a habit of walking down the beach every day, where she saw Evie either sat on the sand or diving into the waves. She emerged from the jungle and saw Evie sat on the sand, knees pulled up and watching the waves roll in. She walked over and sat next to her silently, knowing that she would talk when she was ready.
"I can't believe him." She muttered, making Rebecca look over at her. "After everything, he is still out to get us."
"He probably has some personal agenda that he is following." Becca replied. "He's only going to be a problem if you let him be."
"He caused me to lose my baby." She whispered.
"Maybe it was your body saying it was too early to have another child. And you can still try again." She said, trying to be comforting.
"What if it wasn't?" She asked, standing up. "What if it's my body saying that we can never have another child?"
"You'll never know unless you try." Becca said, standing up and putting her hands on Evie's shoulders. "The doctor said it was down to stress. That isn't going to cause any long term issues. You can still have another child."
"But-" Evie started.
"No buts." Becca said, a smile tugging at her mouth. "I know that we haven't known each other for long, but you are my sister now, and I will not accept my sister giving up."
"Thank you." She said with a small smile as they sat back down. "Please tell me that G has Dominic?"
"Last I saw him, Gordon had him." Becca said, making Evie's eye widen.
"He's doomed." She said, making Becca laugh.
"Which one? Gordon or Dominic?" She asked.
"Both." Evie replied, making them both laugh. "How are you doing anyway? With John on 5 not long after your wedding."
"I'm doing alright." She said with a smile. "And by the sounds of it, I am the first Tracy wife not to be pregnant by now."
"Haha. Yeah, that sounds about right." She replied with a laugh. "I became pregnant on my wedding night, and Rachel and my Mum were both pregnant before the wedding. It seems John is the only Tracy with any patience."
"What's it like up there in space?" Becca asked, looking up at the sky. Evie knew what she was looking for and stood up.
"Come with me." She said, holding her hand out. The two women walked towards the house, only for Evie to steer them around the back of the house and to a building Becca hadn't seen before. They walked up the steps to a large room with a domed roof made all out of glass. There were some computers screens, a sofa, various chairs and a telescope. Evie adjusted the telescope and smiled before standing back. "Look through the telescope."
Becca did as she was asked and looked through it, her eyes widening as she saw the stars and a craft in the middle of them. "Wow." She breathed.
"That's Thunderbird 5." Evie said, looking up at the sky where she knew the craft was. "She's John's baby. He loves anything to do with space and the stars, and up there, he is surrounded by them. He'll spend days looking out of one of the windows and just stare at the stars, not moving. He even forgets to do the maintenance." She said with a chuckle.
"Why does he like it so much up there? It must get lonely." Becca said, still looking at the craft.
"It does, but he knows we are only a phone call away. As for why he likes it, he is around the stars. It's quiet, but he likes that. And up there, he can watch over us. He is doing a big brother's job of watching his siblings, without getting involved." She replied, putting her arm around her new sister-in-law's shoulder. "And besides, you know that you can go up there as well."
"I can?" She asked, standing back and looking at the older woman in shock.
"Yeah. You are already training to be a thunderbird, and everyone does at least one rotation on 5. John can even train you up there if you like." Evie said with a smile.
"So you've done a rotation up there?" She asked, making Evie smirk.
"Yeah. Had to cut it short though." She said with a laugh, making Becca frown. "John is supposed to check the wiring of the station every month. He forgot. So when I went up, the wires were so badly damaged that the gravity kept turning on and off. Broke my arm while trying to fix it."
"Serious?" She asked astounded as they walked out of the building.
"Yep." She laughed. "Now come on. Onaha probably has dinner ready and I know my son will be waiting for it." They laughed before walking back towards the main house. Becca looked around her new home as she went, smiling as she thought about the amazing family she had married into and knew she would do whatever it took to protect them. No matter what the cost.
I am so sorry this took so long! I have been really ill lately and have been in and out of hospital, and have been trying to do all of my uni coursework at the same time.
Thank you everyone for reading this story. I have already started writing the next one and hopefully will upload it soon.
