Warning(s): Robin's past?

This one shot isn't long, but I hope you like it nevertheless.

"A question if I may, Captain?"

Luffy gives her a curious glance and frowns at the formal title she used.

To see who would keep watch on ship, the crew decided to draw straws. The one who had the longest straw would keep watch. When the crew drew straws, the one who had the longest straw was Robin, much to Nami and Usopp's chagrin. Their chagrin quickly turned into confusion, however, when their adventure-loving captain decided to remain aboard with her.

The only one didn't look particularly surprised was Zoro, who merely gave them a backward glance before he grinned and said that he needed booze. Given Zoro's tendency to go in the wrong direction yet end up at the place that needs him the most, Robin isn't concerned.

"Huh, what's up Robin?"

Seeing Luffy with his head tilted, mouth creased, and those dark eyes become focused on her, it surprises her how light the feeling in her chest is.

"I'm curious about love." Robin admits, resting her head on the palm of her hand. "How would you describe it?"

Luffy's mouth creases further, his hand coming up to rest on his chin in contemplation.

A moment of silence passes before a sudden grin spreads across his features.

"I think it's like an adventure!"

Robin still frowns even though she suspected that the answer would be strange. "How so?"

"Well, Makino always said that 'love is a hurricane'," Luffy's frown returns. "So did Hancock," he wrinkles his nose, "I think."

"But it's more like an adventure, 'cause you never know what's gonna happen, and even if it turns bad, at least you got to see what happened."

Robin smiles, observing her captain continuing to frown thoughtfully as he gazes at the sea and kicks his legs.

"I hate not knowing stuff that I need to know." Luffy pauses, wrinkling his nose once more, "Not the stuff like Nami tries to tell me about sails, but the important stuff like nakama, meat, and adventure."

"That's a very good answer, Luffy."

"Yeah. So," Luffy's eyes find her own. "What do you think love is like, Robin?"

Robin feels her eyes widen, before she manages to collect herself, noting that Luffy seems quite pleased at her reaction, if his smile is anything to go by.

"It's like living."

Robin doesn't miss the way her captain's smile collapses at what she doesn't say, and instead offers a fake smile that is utterly useless against her captain's all-seeing eyes.

"Ro-," Luffy starts, but gets interrupted by Robin.

"However, my opinion has changed quite a bit. Now, I think that love is a reason to live for." Robin smiles. "And not a price."

Luffy laughs, meeting her eyes.

"Good answer, Robin!"
