"So….Jaune you know this wasn't a date right?" Yang asked, taking in their surroundings.
"Totally."
"So candle lit dinner is just par for the course for you?"
"100%"
"And the nice suit is just your outing clothing."
"Every time I'm out." He said, continuing his façade of casualness against Yang's mounting evidence to the contrary.
'Alright." She concluded with a small laugh at Jaune's antics. It was cute in a way. Still, a candle lit dinners in a fancy restraint wasn't really her thing. Neither was Jaune, but she was feeling a bit bad for the amount of unnecessary assaults on the poor guy. Not that it looked like he was very comfortable at the moment if the amount of stress sweating was much to go by. Looking around for something to talk about she found the place strangely empty. "Quite place."
Might have been a touch too much to use my connections to get the place alone. "Yeah uuuuummmm that's why I picked it, totally for the secluded casualness." I need to change the subject. "So what brought you to Beacon?" he finally managed.
She shrugged. "Wanna be a huntress, Beacon was closet."
"Yeah, but why a huntress?"
She shrugged "Fun."
"Really? No elaborate back-story."
Another shrug. "Maybe. It's a bit to protect Ruby but mostly it's to get some action. Like what else lets me fight, drink, see remnant, and with no one telling how to do it?"
"Sounds like you're a bit of a mercenary Yang." He said without any judgment in his voice.
"Pretty much what being a huntress is honestly." She took a sip of her drink. "So what got you into this, no offence but your don't really seem the normal hunter type."
"What do you mean by that?" he asked a bit nervous at her answer due to his very unhunter like motivations.
"Well Ruby's here to honestly help people and make Remanant a better place. Some people are here for that and most of the rest are here to be heroes and some for family reasons. You don't really have that whole hero seeking thing going on; you play things too close to the chest for that. You literally hid your semblance forever. And you don't strike me as the pure good kinda guy."
"You put a lot of thought into me." He said letting his implication hang in the air.
She laughed a bit "I like to know who my sister hangs with."
"You're a good sister Yang." He said, hoping to draw the conversation away from his motivations.
"Thanks, I try." She focused back on him. "Enough avoiding, why are you going to Beacon?"
"Alright, alright you got me. It really is a simple reason." He trailed off as she took another drink of her water. "I'm here to corrupt and defile young innocent girls." he said dead faced.
Drawing his hands back to avoid more stabbing he laughed hysterically as Yang sputtered and choked on her drink; water coming out of her nose. She glared back at him when she finally got her breathing under control.
"You're an ass." She growled.
He put his hands up in mock surrender and cut his laughing off. "Sorry, sorry. You're just too fun to mess with sometimes."
She glared at him evilly before her face softened into a devious smile. "You like messing with me Jaune?"
"Ummm, yeah?" he said cautiously.
"How do you like to mess with me?" she asked, leaning forward and showing a generous view of her cleavage.
"What do you mean?" he asked a bit confused and trying his hardest to keep his eyes from being permanently glued to her chest.
"You heard me." She licked her lips. "How would you really wanna mess with me." she paused to take in his increasing nervousness and awkwardness. "Some messing after this date maybe?" she winked.
"NO!" he shouted embarrassedly. Rolling back into her chair in laughter Yang dropped the act.
"Your too cute vomit boy." She managed through her laughs.
"You suck." He pouted. It wasn't his fault that he was a hormonal teen that hadn't spent any time with women in years. Except for Neo, but…. Neo.
"No, I'm the undisputed queen of messing with people still. So suck on that." She gloated.
"Well maybe I will suck on that." He tried, his comeback losing confidence and volume with every world.
Her laughs continued. "Swing and a miss"
He slumped into his chair and grumbled; a hand covering his face. Uggh somebody kill me.
As if some twisted god heard his thoughts he heard the door to the restaurant opening to reveal over a dozen armed men in masks swiftly enter the building: their movements where swift and practiced. Before either he or Yang could even make sense of what was happening they found themselves surrounded.
"Had a good date Knight?" A voice asked. Looking over the two saw a man in a suit and mesh mask the same attire worn by the other men holding them up except for his colored orange instead of black like the others, stride into the building, a hand gun held lazily in his hand. "Eat some good food maybe? Figure on taking the blond back for a screw after?"
Jaune looked the leader of the group in the eyes "Listen I don't –"
"I don't remember asking you a goddamn thing!" the man yelled at him, his gun now pointed at his head. "You might think you're hot shit hunter boy, but shut up and let the adults do the talking." Looking over to Yang the man continued. "Didn't exactly choose this one for the brains, did you Knight?" he looked Jaune over again "Or looks apparently."
"First, It's Yang not Knight, but you can call me sir, and if you don't step off from my date me and Jaune and going to break you." she seethed, her eyes changing to a dangerous red color as she brought up her gauntlets from some unseen pocket to rest menacingly on the table. "you ready to crush these goons Jaune?"
"I'm your date?" he asked with a stupid grin.
Her eyes turned to her regular color at her not-dates comments "Juane, pull out your weapons."
An embarrassed look crept onto his face "Well ummmm... I kinda didn't think I'd need them on this not date."
"Your semblance them?" she asked starting to realize how screwed she might be.
"Not working." he answered apologetically
She face-palmed. "God damit Jaune."
The leader motioned with his hand and the assailants descended on Yang en mass. From her position sitting and against the large group of enemies she was swarmed and beaten unconscious before she could even stand.
He knew he was vastly outnumbered and any attempt would get him killed as it was apparent that they had mistaken Yang for him and would hesitate to kill what they thought was some random idiot. His best bet to live through this was to leverage that mistake. So while his date was beat down he coldly sat and watched.
"Real cool customers aren't you kid?" The orange man commented on his demeanor before issuing more commands. "Load her into the van and take off. Eight men on her at all times, you know how dangerous she is. Bravo, with me." A majority of the goons then took Yang's bruised and unconscious body outside though the back to where Jaune assumed their getaway vehicles were waiting. Only two goons with shotguns remained; one held the staff at gun point while the other was positioned behind Jaune, ready to back up his boss if he made a wrong move. The orange masked leader then proceed to take Yang's seat and, to Jaune's surprise took of his mask to reveal a brown haired skinny faced man with angular features. He then proceeded to eat Yang's meal.
"Sorry, didn't eat before this and this looks good, oh, and also for having to kill you now for seeing my face. By the way the name's Felix if you want to start begging." He informed not looking up from devouring Yang's food with a fork.
"Want to know who I am?" Jaune asked, adopting a equally casual demeanor while continuing to eat his food as if nothing was wrong.
"I don't give a fuck." Felix responded with a bit of venom but otherwise continued to eat. "You're some wanna-be hunter shit who thinks he's got the biggest dick in the room because he won a spar and was going to plow big tits." He put the food down and raised his gun at Jaune. "So as the polite guy I am any last words before I kill you?"
"Three shots of the highest proof bourbon they have here please." He replied as if he was talking to a waiter.
Felix's finger tensed on the trigger before he decided against it and lowering the gun and letting out a laugh."You are either totally delusional or got some serious sand kid." Turning he yelled Juane's request at one of the captive waiters, who, in the sight of one of the goons, went to the restaurant's bar.
"So might date seems to be quite popular. What am I about to get killed over." He asked as he waited for his drink.
"You really don't know then? Well kid you where just on a date with a bonafide monster who is known in the underworld as Knight. She has the kinda body count that an upstanding mercenary like me finds distasteful."
"Let me guess, you're just concerned citizens right."
Felix laughed "Got jokes I see. No, you see she's the left hand of the big boss in town who my employer feels should take an early retirement. Problem is that Knight has been killing everyone we send into town. So we happen to known where her boss is holed up but it's locked down tighter than your virginity. So me and my partner are going to blowtorch knight for a bit till she calls her boss and tells him to leave his hideout where our ambush team smokes him and his freaky whore bodyguard."
"Monologue much?" Jaune sniped.
Felix shrugged "Gotta have that special touch of theater." As he said this the waiter placed the shots down on the table. "Here's your tip." Felix joked before shooting the man dead. Still Jaune keep his calm demeanor. "Damn kid, you really are cold hearted."
"I've heard better quips."
Felix grinned. "I'm starting to think I know why the monster was into you, damn psycho."
"Knight really that bad?"
"When he was starting out some Beacon students thought they would make a name for themselves and arrest him. Somehow they cornered him in an elevator on the top floor of some building. When the door opened at the bottom floor all three of them had been stabbed to death, pretty gruesome stuff. So I can say that you shouldn't really care too much that we kill this monster"
Jaune slid one of the three shots to Felix and raised another.
"What's this for?" Felix asked as he put his gun on the table and picked up the shot.
"To killing monsters." He answered.
"Fair enough." Felix shrugged, raising the glass to his mouth.
"There were four of them by the way" Jaune corrected before he downed his shot. "Not three."
The shot stopped at Felix's lips.
"And I had killed them because the where moonlighting as muscle for a rival."
A look of fear appeared on the older man's face and in a panic Felix scrambled for his gun hoping to claim it. He was surprised when instead of going for the gun Knight instead grabbed his drink and the table candle. His confusion wasn't long as he found himself ablaze before his fingers touched the gun
The closest goon moved to level his shotgun at the sudden threat only to catch a salad fork in the hand; the sudden pain causing him to drop his aim.
Turning to face the farthest goon Jaune only had time to full on catch a shell to the chest. Channeling his Aura he managed to not get cut in half but instead rolled into a flip with the force. As he planned he landed atop the wounded goon behind him; his legs straddling the now unbalanced man's neck. Hearing the tell-tale sound of the shotgun chambering another round Jaune used his weight to flip back, pulling himself and the man to the ground. Mid-fall the explosion of the shotgun was heard and as Jaune judged from the sudden amount of gore splashed across his face it had hit the unintended target.
Surprised at his allies unexpected death at his hand the remaining goon was too slow as Jaune snatched up the dead man's shotgun and blew off his head. Swinging his newfound boomstick around he sighted in Felix as he finished retrieving his pistol and putting out the flames; his suit slightly singed.
"Interrupted the wrong date asshole." He said through gritted teeth before emptying the rest of the shotgun's ammo at Felix. Instead of dying like Jaune had hoped the mercenary activated his semblance: a blue wall forming in front of him, deflecting the bullets. "Shit"
Felix grinned, leveling his pistol at a now unarmed Jaune."Semblance shields, really handy stuff." He quipped.
Whipping his shotgun at Felix to buy a second before he was cut down Jaune reached down and picked up the dead goon at his feet by the shoulders. The upper part of the body came up to cover him as the damaged body fell in half from the powerful blast that had ended it. Ignoring the gore he charged with a roar. "Meat shield Motherfucker!"
Closing the distance his improvized shield rocked as bullets slammed into the meat. More blood and gore covering him as he surged forward. Four feet from his target a round struck home in his leg; not embedding itself into his flesh but instead shattering his Aura and causing him trip forward and drop his impromptu shield. Righting himself as momentum propelled him towards his target. He prepared to take Felix down with a football tackle only for the blue shield to appear his skull cracking against it as he crumpled to the ground.
Felix chuckled cruelly "Good try sport. Time to die now."
A kick to the head rolled Jaune onto his back over to face Felix reloading his gun. "What happened to taking knight hostage?" Jaune coughed through the pain.
"Ehhh that was my partner's dumbass idea. Besides I just bagged the big bad Knight. I think a can handle a flamboyant idiot and his hoe." He aimed his gun at Jaune's skull. "So for real this time, any last words?"
He was met with a mixture of blood and spit weakly shot his way only to have it fall back on its senders face. "Fair enough."
As his finger pulled the trigger Jaune touched Felix's leg and activated his semblance. Throughout his bloody career Jaune hadn't found much use for a semblance that super powered someone else's semblance, except for the little fact that people didn't expected to get a super charge. So when Felix's Semblance unexpectedly surged he found himself reflexively activating it. Finger already losing the bullet it ricocheted off the unexpectedly formed barrier and back into its sender's leg.
Like a coiled snake Jaune shot up and grabbed Felix's belt pulling him, to the ground with him. Seeing the ensuing melee on the ground that this fight was headed for Felix fell used his momentum and kicked forward to break Jaune's grasp and to send him atop the younger man's midsection and thrusting his pistol in Jaune's face. Without hesitation Jaune struck the gun out of Felix's hand with an open palm strike, sending the weapon flying.
Undeterred by the loss of his weapon Felix leaned back to avoid his opponents counter attack and swiftly produced a blade from his coat, bringing it down to bear. Grabbing Felix's hand Jaune stopped the blade from entering his heart by a few inches. He fought with all to keep the blade from inching forward but as it crept towards him he knew it was a fight he couldn't win.
Unsatisfied with the pace of the knife's descent Felix swiftly punched the blade and gained a few inches. As he repeated the action Jaune watched in fear as the blade moved ever closer.
Out of options Jaune waited for Felix to bring his arm up to strike down again only to release one of his own hands from the struggle and then, Aura-less, impale his hand on the blade with a scream. Fighting through the pain he pushed upwards with the knife inside him, the force and surprise causing Felix to break his grip completely. Grabbing Felix's left hand with his uninjured one and kicking with his right leg he rolled with the larger man until he found himself on top.
Felix, now in the unfavorable position he once held his opponent in madly kicked and punched to get out.
Shrugging off the pain Jaune removed the blade from his hand and brought it to bear against the pinned mercenaries face. Unable to stop the blade from coming down upon him Felix angled his face and thrust up to meet it. Head-butting the blade from his opponent's hand Felix felt his Aura shatter and blood ooze from a large gash on his head.
Undeterred Jaune shimmied forward to place his knees in the cruck of Felix's armpits; limiting the leverage and force behind Felix's blows. Rocking forward he slammed his elbow into his opponents throat and pinning it down. Hardening himself against feeble blows and a sickening choking sound that Felix managed Jaune slowly felt the blows grow into terrified and weak slaps and cold hardened eyes go wild with terror as he watched the life leave Felix.
Holding his elbow to the throat for a bit longer just for good measure Jaune stood up and took a deep breath. "As I said; wrong date."
Haggard and bleeding he went over to a near-by table and made a make-shift bandage from the table cloth. Looking over to a waiter that had been cowering in the corner he yelled over to get his attention. "Hey!"
"Y-y-yes?" The terrified man managed.
"Check please."
Walking back to Felix's body he took his scroll and took a seat to catch his breath and let his Aura recharge. Scrolling through the map app he looked at history to find the only place in town that was an abandoned wear house that could support the kind of operation that Felix had described. "Fuck I barely made it out of that alive." He paused to take a moment to weigh his options. "Ok, probably a shit ton of armed muscle in there. Stupid over here mentioned a partner so probably someone just as good. Oh yeah and a hostage." I mean Yang is nice and all but I am bleeding and out of Aura. Like come on my hand really hurts. Uggggh but Ruby would look all sad and stuff. Meeh…I am leaving so no repercussions for me. Seriously no idea how I'd survive this whole thing if I go charging after her. Ok so on one hand I can avoid all consequences and I get to live. On the other hand I get killed. He internally cringed as he made his decision. Sorry Yang.
His scroll beeping rounded out his thoughts to tell him he had a message from Roman.
Hey kid so Cinder wants you at Beacon indefinitely. So don't leave or blow your cover so she won't burn us alive.
"FUUUUUCK! Guess I'm doing the right thing and dying horribly"
He typed up a reply and a request for help with Yang's kidnapping but stopped remembering the ambushes set for Roman and decided against sending it. Briefly he thought about calling his team or Ruby's but seeing how being exposed meant a fiery death he quickly discarded the idea. And with that all allies were out of play and he was screwed. Considering his options he punched in a number on Felix's phone.
"Hey hot stuff." He greeted in a husky and honey laced voice.
Sorry this took forever, I haven't had a reliable Wi-Fi connection or computer for a few months. Always looking for feedback to help me improve and thanks to everyone that has taken the time to give their thoughts so far. Also due to how popular my other story, Out of the frying pan, has been I really want to do something with it but I wanna know how people wanna see that go down cause I honestly don't have too many concrete ideas for it.
