A gathering of the wesen was held in Portland. Those who wanted to live a peaceful life, one that saw all beings as equal, had planned and gathered together in an event for everyone to get to know each other and the grimm they saw as the catalyst for unification.
The fact that Nick Burkhardt was very good friends with a blutbad, a fuchsbau, the eisbiber community and married to a hexenbiest gave wesen the belief that he was a good and honorable grimm. That he did not believe himself to be separate from wesen.
The way he had handled his cases when wesen were involved further gave the community the assurance he was a benefit to their world.
After Black Claw had caused so much chaos in the wesen world, those who wanted equality were eager to find ways that would prevent such a group from rising again.
It was the strong opinion of many that an honorable grimm being involved in the wesen community would keep everyone on equal ground.
It was the eisbiber who suggested events where wesen could interact with the grimm, and his family, in a casual setting.
The largest convention center in the area was rented out and became the setting for the event.
Nick and his family arrived at the center first. Monroe, Rosalee and their triplets were also at the center before anyone else.
At first, many of the wesen seemed hesitant to approach Nick. But after an hour and he was seen joking around with an eisbiber and a blutbad, as well as seen constantly kissing his hexenbiest and often wrapping his arm around her, the other wesen were put at ease and became comfortable enough to fully interact with him.
Soon the awkwardness was gone and everyone was able to have friendly conversations.
A jagerbar family sat near the Burkhardts and struck up a conversation.
"I'm Faith Larkin. This is my husband Max and our son Jimmy." The female jagerbar introduced.
Everyone shook hands. Nick and Adalind introduced themselves and their kids. Kelly waved his favorite toys at the family as his own way of greeting.
"Kelly likes his fox and his wolf. He won't go anywhere without them." Diana explained.
"Oh, our son Jimmy was the same way with a toy truck." Mrs. Larkin said. "He cried when he broke a wheel off of it. You would think it was the end of the world."
The teen jagerbar woged with irritation and embarrassment of his parents.
Kelly let out a squeal of delight, "Teddy!" The toddler then tried to reach out for the young man, who had gone back to his human state at the little boy's excitement.
The teen looks at the grimm and the hexenbiest, clearly at a loss of what he should do.
"Don't look at them" His father teased. "You're the one who got that little boy all excited, so you're the one who has to deal with him."
"Daad" The teen whined, mortified, "he thinks I'm a teddy bear."
"Teddy!" Kelly shouted. "Pwease!"
"He wants you to woge." Diana informed the teen jagerbar.
"No." The teen said firmly, crossing his arms with a scowl on his face for added effect.
"Please?" Kelly asked, this time much softer.
"No" The teen shook his head, drawing out the word.
"Teddy." Kelly looked down with a pout and tears forming in his eyes.
The little boy accepted he wouldn't be getting what he wanted and it showed on his face that he was very unhappy about it.
Just like his father, Kelly's face told the whole world what he was thinking and feeling.
Diana glared at the teen jagerbar for making her brother upset. The teen started feeling pretty awful at the sight of the little boy's face.
Luckily for everyone, two teen girls walked up and squealed, "Ooo, baby, cute little baby." then proceeded to woge into fuchsbau.
"FOXY, FOXY, FOXY" Kelly shouted with delight, and, completely ignoring the jagerbar, ran up to the fuchsbau girls, demanding to be picked up.
Though a little shocked to discover the toddler was a grimm, they were of course helpless to his cuteness and immediately picked him up.
"Good thing he found something better than a teddy bear. He found versions of his favorite toy." Nick chuckled as his son peppered kisses all over the girls faces and kept hugging them tight. "Pretty foxes." Kelly said, running his hands down their faces and hair.
