"Versailles will be the envy of all courts in Europe.", at least this is what his brother claimed. However, all the grandeur, glamour and spectacles of Versailles are meaningless in the eyes of Philippe; to him, this splendid palace is nothing more than a prison. Philippe had always felt like a canary trapped in an intricate cage.

Since childhood, Louis has always been the focus of all, just as dazzling as Apollo himself; Philippe had really thought that his brother's charms are as pervasive as the sun itself. Philippe ever had to come in second, he shall never eclipse the aura of the sun; nor shame his brother and therefore cast shadow over the sun. Being the king isn't easy, even Philippe comprehends that thoroughly, nevertheless, who could ever understand how it is like to be the king's brother?

He still recalls his encounter with that blonde youth, who was more beauteous than Ganymede*, with a face so immaculate that one could hardly believe he is mortal. Philippe had never imagined that he will spend the rest of his life by the side of that young man.

" Henceforth, everyday that I do not touch you, taste you, feel you will be a day of death and mourning. I meant it then and I mean it now."

" You do know there will be others?"

" Not like him."

The fact that the Chevalier de Lorraine is not a reputable nor moral nobleman is almost known by everyone. In spite of this, Philippe fell in love with him incorrigibly. His immutable fascination with the Chevalier befuddles even the Sun King himself, Louis does not know that his brother is not just obsessed with an attractive face and some shimmering blonde hair, but so much more.

While the whole world regards Philippe only as the Sun King's brother, the Chevalier only takes Philippe as Philippe. He once said: " Versailles could be the centre of whatever it wants, but the centre of my world is you, mignonette." The entire world revolves around the sun, but Philippe de Lorraine have always revolved around Monsieur, Monsieur could always find the reflection of himself in those charming eyes. He yearns the feeling of being needed, and he is constantly rewarded with this feeling whenever he is with the Chevalier.

" Il est peut être le soleil, mon cher, mais toi, tu es une étoile." *

Philippe could never forget what his Chevalier told him right after returning from the exile.

The sun illuminates masses of land and nourishes life; however, it is the stars that rule the night sky. Although not as bright as the sun, stars twinkle and dazzle in their own right. The bravery and might of Monsieur on the battlefields outshines even the Sun. Just as expected, he returns with heartening news of victory.

Compared with the extravagance and decadence of Versailles, St. Cloud is a bit more tranquil, a bit more idyllic. In a peaceful morning, the Duc d'Orleans lies alongside his most beloved Chevalier de Lorraine. They greet each other with a passionate kiss.

Notes:

The Chevalier is also named Philippe and guess what's the name of his elder brother. You got it, Louis.

Ganymede is a young man from the Greek myths, known to be the fairest amongst mortals. Zeus became drawn to his beauty and kidnapped him. I mention him because in history, Philippe de Lorraine had a portrait of himself painted after Ganymede.

Il est peut être le soleil, mon cher, mais toi, tu es une étoile. He may be the sun, but my dear, you are a star. It comes from episode 2.02

I've also included lines from other episodes.
