Cammie woke up sure that she was late and one look at her alarm clock told her that was true. She jumped out of bed and threw her clothes on. She jogged down the stairs, surprised to find her mother in the kitchen looking amused.
"Mom?! What are you doing! We are late!" She exclaimed, swinging her backpack over her shoulder. Her mother chuckled, putting a hand over her mouth. "Honey, did you change your clock right for daylights savings? We aren't late at all."
Cammie glanced at the kitchen clock, back to her mom, and then back to the clock.
"And you just let me freak out huh?" She said snidely. Her mother laughed.
"Come on, let's get going," she said pleasantly. The two headed out the door together, and Cammie got to her class pretty early. Now entirely relaxed she pulled Zach's book out of her bag and turned to the page she had last let off on. She got a few chapters finished when students finally began to fill the room, all murmuring hi's to Cammie. While none of them seemed to understand how she was able to get a boyfriend, especially Zach as a boyfriend, they had all given up on attacking her. Apparently, word had gotten out about what the girls had done at Blackthorne, and no one dared to doubt whether Zach and Cammie were in love with one another after that.
"Camster the Hamster!" Dillion exploded, raising his hand to knock her book out of her hand. She smoothly moved it to avoid it getting hit and stuck her tongue out at him.
"Dillion the Villain."
"You've been spending too much time with Zach," Dillion quipped. "His book interests are rubbing off on you."
She rolled her eyes and stowed the book away.
"There's no such thing as 'too much time with your boyfriend'," she responded softly.
He slid into the desk next to her.
"Turns out we have a substitute teacher," he gossiped friendly. She looked up and just as he said there was an older man standing in front of the class. He had a vest and a tie on, and white hair. She cocked her head.
"Looks goofy," she said affectionately.
He turned around and addressed the class.
"I am your teacher for the day, Stan Lee! Please call me Stan," he addressed. Cammie wrinkled her nose and raised her hand. He addressed her.
"Mr. Lee," she said.
"Stan," he corrected.
"Uhm, class hasn't started yet," she said softly. He shrugged.
"Once I've entered the classroom, the class has started," he said. "Everyone else is late."
He turned around and began to scribble on the whiteboard. When he turned back around the word Writing was on the board.
"To me, writing is fun," he introed. "It doesn't matter what you're writing, as long as you can tell a story."
A student raised their hand, and he called on them.
"We aren't studying writing at the moment, Mr. Lee-"
"Stan!"
"We are studying falla-"
"Oh, it'll be alright if you learn how to write a little better. I'm a pretty good writer, so you'll like this," he interrupted. He paused and look at the class.
"What are everyone's names?"
Mr. Lee held the class so late that by the time he was done it was lunch time. Whenever any students pointed out the class was over he addressed them by their name and said that class ended when he wanted it to. All the teachers were ignored as well, and told off for being so formal with him and calling him "Mr. Lee". The only reason he let everyone out when he did was that he was hungry.
Cammie and Dillion made their way to the cafeteria where their friends were seated looking rather confused.
"Hey, what's with the odd expressions?" Bex asked. Cammie squinted.
"Honestly, you don't want to know. Just, skip English today. The substitute is a bit eccentric," she warned.
"And obsessed with the word Excelsior," Dillion added with a shiver. Cammie took her seat next to Zach and was greeted affectionately with a kiss on her cheek. She smiled at him.
"I've gotten further in the book," she stated warmly.
"Yeah?" He asked, his fingers finding Cammie's. She intertwined their hands, a little happy warm feeling going through her body at the contact. "You enjoying it?"
"It's great."
There was something about Zach that made Cammie's heart beat a little faster whenever they spoke and the world around her kind of slowed down. She found it hard to focus on anyone or anything other than Zach when he was around. She wondered if that would go away the longer they were together.
She doubted it.
"Earth to Zammie," Grant blurted, waving his hand between Zach and Cammie. They blinked and turned to look at him in confusion.
"What?"
"Wanna hang out after school today?" Macey repeated with a roll of her eyes. "Of course if you two are too busy making googly eyes at one another-"
"Yeah, you're one to talk Mrs. Winters. Or are we just ignoring the promise ring?" Cammie quipped back. Macey's face flushed, and she pulled her hand from off the table to hide the shiny promise ring that had popped up on her hand the last few days. The table chuckled, so Cammie shrugged. "Oh, and we are in."
"I haven't said it yet, but me too," Dillion agreed with a grin. In response, he got nudged in the side.
"You weren't invited buddy," Jonas stated with a laugh. The whole table nodded in unison, making Dillion pout.
"Ah, come on guys don't be mean, I'll pay," he responded. Even Liz rolled her eyes.
"What does a couple of bucks mean to you Mr. Rich boy?" She teased.
"You guys are gonna make me cry," Dillion whined. The whole group broke into laughter. Cammie couldn't help the warm smile that spread across her lips.
Nothing beat the feeling of spending time with her friends like this.
"Oh, geez," Cammie murmured, patting her pants down to confirm what she had feared. "I left my earbuds in last period."
"Oh," Zach replied. "I'll go back and get them with you."
Cammie waved off the gesture.
"That's alright, I'll only be a second," she said off-handedly. Before Zach could protest she took off back towards the school, happy to find her earbuds were lying on her desk. She grabbed them and turned around to find Josh standing there, staring at her with hurt in his eyes. She raised an eyebrow.
"What's up?" She asked. His mouth opened and for a second he just gaped like a fish. Then he seemed to form a coherent thought.
"Why did you choose Zach over me?" He finally asked. Cammie sighed and sat down on a nearby desk. She patted the surface area beside it, causing Josh to take a seat beside her. He did without question but continued to speak even as he followed her directions.
"Why did you befriend Dillion, Dillion of all people, but hate me? I don't understand, we had a good relationship. I-I was in love with you."
Josh's mouth begged for the truth, but his eyes begged for a different answer. One that Cammie couldn't and wouldn't give him.
"We're just not meant to be Josh," she admitted softly. "You may have loved me but you didn't love me the way that you needed too. Zach does."
"But-"
"And Dillion may not seem like a very good friend to you, but he is. He's a great friend who is extremely loyal to those he cares about. The only reason you wanted to be my friend was in the hopes I would fall in love with you or something," she said in response. He still didn't look convinced.
"Simply enough their Pros and Cons outweigh yours," Cammie explained. This time Josh relented the comment, so she got up from the desk. "Goodbye, Josh."
When she rejoined her friends on the sidewalk Zach gave her a bit of a puzzled look.
"You okay Gallagher Girl?" He asked her. She smiled, got on her tiptoes and gave Zach a brief kiss on the lips.
"Yeah, I'm okay."

Author's Note:
Well, everyone, it has been a ride (Sorry this chapter is so short but this was all I wanted to cover in this chapter so idk). I so loved writing this fanfiction for you all! I never thought it would come this far when we started off on this journey, and I can't recall a time where I wrote this much for a fanfiction, I mean wow, we're ten thousand or so off a novels word count and I couldn't have done it without everyone's support. I am so glad that everyone enjoyed this story! I will miss writing this in the future I am sure haha! Anyways, thanks for sticking with me through the late updates, short-ish chapters, and the unreasonably long author's notes. I hope to start a new fanfic in this fandom in December, but we'll see how life goes! Thanks for riding this with me! Sorry for the late update! I had important family matters this weekend and didn't have any time alone. Still, I'm glad it was late so I could add the Stan Lee cameo. The world will miss him dearly 3. But that's it from me! Hopefully, I will see you guys around!
