The Most in a Month Competition Part II

Remus, Sirius, and James huddle under the blanket. The three of them are at the Potter Manor for the rest of the summer, and James and Sirius snuck into Remus' room when Euphemia and Fleamont Potter went to bed. It was the only time during the summer, while they were at the Manor, that they could be together together. Away from uncertain eyes and suspicious frowns.

Sirius' agile hands roam over Remus' naked body.

Remus is totally into the touch but something catches his attention. "Did you hear that?" he whispers into the darkness.

James, or at least Remus thinks it's James, kicks him in the leg. "Don't joke like that."

Remus pushes Sirius' hands away from his body and sits up. "I'm not joking. I'm sure I heard something."

Sirius sits up. "Who cares? It might be for the best that we're caught," Sirius says, a cheerful, unworried smile on his face.

"I care," James refutes.

Sirius' happy demeanor vanishes. "Are you ashamed of us?"

And suddenly, Remus wishes he had kept silent. What started out as a fun, light-hearted rendezvous is quickly escalating into a fight.

James glares at him. "Of course I'm not ashamed. I don't expect you to understand what I'm feeling. You gave up on your parents ever being proud of you a long time ago, but my parents still love me, and I still want them to be happy with me and my decisions."

Now Remus is angry. "James, that was mean."

James, to his credit, looks remorseful. "I'm sorry."

Sirius shakes his hand. "You're right. My family doesn't want to know me, and the Potters are still loving parents, not only where you're concerned, but also me and even Remus. That's why I don't think they'll care."

They're interrupted by a light knock and the door opening, to reveal a blushing Euphemia and a smirking Fleamont.

The patriarch arches an amused eyebrow. "Boys, I thought when you came in here, you'd do what you wanted to do and then go to sleep. I wasn't expecting for all of the conversation."

James blushes, and the trio races to make sure that all of the important body parts are covered. "Mom, Dad!" James screeches. "I can explain..."

Euphemia has her head turned away. No matter how open she is, there are still some things a mother should never be a witness to. "Jamie, I think it's pretty obvious what's going on."

Fleamont continues grinning. "What? You thought we didn't know. We're not clueless, Son. You might think you were all being so sneaky, but both Euphemia and I saw through everything."

"And you're okay with it?" James cautiously asks.

"Let me ask you something," Euphemia starts, "Are you happy?"

James looks at Sirius and Remus. Sirius looks at ease, but Remus looks as mortified as James feels. "Right now, I'm pretty embarrassed. But most of the time, yes, I'm happy."

"And that's the only thing parents, real parents," Euphemia emphasizes, shooting a look at Sirius, "wants. For their child to be safe and happy."

"So boys, finish whatever you're doing, and then go to sleep. No more late night talking," Fleamont orders.

And the adults close the door, leaving the teens alone.

"I told you there was no reason to worry," Sirius sing-songs.

James looks over at Remus. "Want to help me shut him up?"

Remus smiles, a glint in his eyes. "It will be my pleasure."
