Chapter Twenty-Three
Sirius Black In The Castle
A/N: I have many reasons why it's taken me this long to update, though I'm not sure if any readers actually do read the Author's Notes so I won't say. Just remember that I will not stop writing for this story.
Disclaimer: I only own Aurora and any other OC's. Remember, I will occasionally use quotes from both the books or movie, depending on the scene; I do not own direct quotes or phrases.

"Mmm, it's morning already…?"
Greenish-blue light filtered through tall bedroom windows, a soft glow wavering over dark furniture as it gradually cascaded over two snoozing forms. Eyes blinking into the wavering sunlight, Aurora dug the palms into her eyes, removing any excess sleep as she curled closer into the warmth encircling her form. Peeking her glance upward, the man before her was still knocked out, his chest rising so slowly anyone else would've thought death claimed him during the night. Tracing the contour of the nose he hated so much, Aurora couldn't resist in smiling. These last few weeks had been strenuous, the couple working past hidden fears, desiring nothing more than to move forward in their relationship, never wanting personal terrors to hold them back.
Finger running along Severus' lips, the witch gazed on, mesmerized by his own good looks, ones he claimed were horrid to glance upon; she thought differently.
"Am I that delectable?"
Jumping in fright, she noticed Severus' eyes were slightly open, peering down at her through small slits. "You were awake the whole time?"
"Long enough to know you've been staring."
"I…" Fuck, I've been caught. "I wasn't staring."
"Right," the man rolled his eyes. Sitting upward, Severus leaned against the headboard, circling his form around Aurora's waist, pulling the woman against his chest. Mouth falling into an extended yawn, he whisked away moisture forming in the corners of each eye. Peering through one eye, Severus chuckled, her face coated in embarrassment; such was easy with Aurora.
And she peered right back. "Says the man who's staring at me right now."
The depth of his voice increased as he chuckled. "Aurora…do we have to get up?" Bemoaning, Severus threw an arm over his eyes, shielding them from the minimal light filtering through the window. The other arm tightened its grip around the woman's waist, curling for her form into his, lips connecting against his thin t-shirt.
"I mean…it's Saturday so no, we don't exactly have to…except we both have work to finish."
"Is that absolutely necessary?"
What was this? Severus complaining? Flabbergasted, Aurora nuzzled her nose into his shoulder as he fidgeted. Fingers dancing over his arm, she traveled each one upward, stopping at his chin. "Why don't we?"
Eyebrow raised, Severus' voice dropped even more, the wondrous bass zoning directly to her core, already dripping with her heated lust. "You said so yourself, we have work to finish today." Raising himself upon the bed Severus stretched further against the headboard. Following his lead, Aurora rose to her knees, fingers still tracing up and down his skin. "Well, well…could it be Miss Aurora wants to procrastinate her teaching duties?"
"It's not procrastinating if you're working on something more important."
Dropping his hand along her back, Severus mirrored her movements, nails scratching drawn out moans eliciting from her mouth; Severus' lips curved upward in success. "Such bold words, Professor Warrington," the man groaned, pulling the woman closer into his chest. "For one such as yourself to push aside work to partake in…personal pleasure…"
"For starters, Professor Snape, it's perfectly fine to replace work with pleasure every now and then."
"My, have you changed since you were my student."
Blushing, Aurora swooped her leg over his, crawling onto his lap. "Some things have changed, while some things…" she looped her arms around his neck, connecting their foreheads together. "…haven't changed at all."
"…such as?"
"How much I love you," her reply was instantaneous, a small smirk forming.
Dropping hands from her back, Severus cupped her cheeks, thumb grazing her ever soft skin. "Really now?: Tilting his head, the wizard trailed his mouth, ghosting over Aurora's plump lips. The small gasp escaping churned the man's heart, grip tightening, relishing the moment in how the woman sitting on his lap was reacting due to him, and him alone. Almost three years since rekindling their relationship, with nearly four months since the end of the previous year. Severus Snape was still one to be astonished how he could cause Aurora to melt the way she was.
But by god, was it such a turn on to see her physical reactions to his sole touch.
Especially the way his pajamas tented at the core.
"I'll repeat myself as long as you need me to…Aurora, I have never stopped loving you." Fingers firmly holding her cheek, Aurora tilted upward, reconnecting their gaze. "Throughout those ten yers, you were on my mind every single day, and, I - "
"Shhh," her melodic voice was soothing. "Severus, you don't need to keep explaining. Out of all that, there's only three words I want you to tell me." Allowing himself to smile, Severus pulled his witch even closer. "How can I deny my beautiful witch such a request?" Lips finally able to meet, their heat finally erupted; compared to previous times they've kissed, this was slow and sensual.
Lips upon lips, their mouths parted, accepting the other as each slowly moved. Trailing fingers from her hip, Severus grazed the tips of each across the length of Aurora's body. Downward, he was met with bare thighs, as she had only worn her bare undies and a spare loose shirt. Her arms were laden with goosebumps; her hair silky soft as the man took a firm grip at the base of her neck. All the while sighing and moaning from the depths of her throat, pushing each past their limbs.
It was a dance they'd performed and perfected hundreds of times; some while standing, some while cradled within each other's arms. Sessions of pleasure between the two consisted of fast-paced, electrifyingly numb limbs paired with earth shattering orgasms. Not one to make love at a slow pace, Severus preferred the exhilaration of his thighs slapping into Aurora's, the way her natural juices coated his member, lulling him to thrust again and again.
This was a new rhythm unbeknownst in their typical routine.
Needing to kiss her skin, Severus took hold of the rim of her shirt, slowly inching the material upward. Tossing the shirt aside, he attached his mouth to a perky nipple, already hardened as his tongue latched on. Instantly sucking the puckered bud, he nipped here and there with his teeth. Hands gripping his darkened locks, Aurora curled her back, allowing her wizard to suckle her breasts even more.
Raking fingers through his hair, she continued to sigh, a gasp entering the man's ears as he hot just the right spot. "S-Severus…"
"I need to hear you Aurora," he murmured, barely lifting his occupied lips. Snaking a free hand to her core, a guttural groan reverberated from his throat, soaking in her heat and overflowing wetness. "Blood hell…how're you this wet already?"
A wave of her hand and Aurora's panties were gone, giving Severus the prime opportunity to dip past her luscious lips. The noise he wanted to her, she only emitted when…hell, the woman emitted the lustful whimper anytime the man touched her. Head thrown back, Aurora's mouth fell, a voiceless scream drifting away; Severus was was touching her just right, yet not enough. Fingers curling into his shoulders, Aurora shoved the man away, just long enough for her to drag his own shirt from his torso. Once the thin material was gone did their lips reunite in the sensual dance only they knew.
Following her actions, Severus vanished his lower garments. Relishing in the touch of his member against her core, Aurora squirmed, twisting, rotating her hips; enticing the male to sink their souls together.
"Gah!" Head falling backward, she was shocked to feel her wizard having sunk his fingers into her depths from behind. Blinking in surprise, her cheeky grin couldn't match the one plastered on the wizard's face. "Hmm, impatient, aren't we?"
Sinking the fingers further, Severus curled the digit, slithering against the spongy mound he knew would destroy the woman in his lap. An immediate rush of liquid fire gushed around his digit, the woman in question raising her hips slightly then lowering. Chuckling by her antics, Severus leaned close to her ear, his heated whisper igniting electrified goosebumps all over her shaking form. "And you called me impatient."
It was then Aurora realized. Although there were numerous things within their sec life they tried yet, there was one she desperately wanted to attempt. And it was only in yay moment the witch knew there was no going back. Because after those last words from his mouth, she knew she was close "S-Sev…please, take your fingers out of me,…"
Eyebrow raised, Severus respected her unexpected request, fingers quickly escaping her heat. Concern etched across his features, he was quick yo ask, "If there was something I did - "
Her own finger touched his lips to silence the man; she shook her head at his words. "No, you did, it's just…" There were no secrets between them, especially regarding their sex life. However, this was something Aurora was embarrassed to suddenly express. "Sev, I'm…I'm close and I-I want you to get my off with just your voice."
"My voice…?" The bastard was ready to play, having already deepened his vocal chords, the bass tone reverberated down even into her womb. Muscles contracting, Aurora clenched her thighs, the smooth sensation of her juices gushing like a river dribbled omg Severus below. "Aurora Warrington," he purposely emphasized her name. "You like my voice…?" So what if I…whisper into your ear again?" Breathing into her ear left the witch exchanging speech for seductive noises, the well known coil burning, expanding well past the turning point.
"I can feel you dripping even more. Is my voice that powerful?" Nipping the earlobe, Severus ran his tongue along the outer shell.
"Y-Yes…you have n-no idea…" Hips grinding further, Aurora demanded more. "Please!"
"What's this, haven't you come yet? Tsk, tsk Aurora, that's not like you…Then, what should I do?" Biting down on her neck, Severus hummed deeply, kneading each finger tightly into her ass. "Aurora-Nyx Helen Warrington…I order you to cum."
"I'm right there…right there!"
"Now!" He commanded in her ear.
And she exploded.
Rocketing high int the cosmic heavens, Aurora was thrown into the all-to-familiar sensation of sexual gratification. Never-ending pulse after pulse, every single nerve ending in her core burst into uncontrollable flames, a scorched flame heated by the mere sound of her lover's voice. Such a phenomenon had never occurred, and now that it had, Aurora was sure to remind herself in requesting the action more often.
Beneath herm Severus forced himself to bite his tongue, for the woman's juices seeped out like a cascading waterfall. His cock was now completely drenched. His head was thrown back unexpectedly as the woman gyrated her hips even more, further coating his member, legs, and probably their bed. "Bloody hell woman," he moaned. "You've never been this wet before."
Still trying to calm her breathing couldn't stop the woman from smirking. "I love everything about you, Severus Snape…but your voice has always been my weakness."
"Hmm, weakness, you say?" Bringing their lips together, Severus used his distraction to lift the woman's hips, hovering her over his elongated shaft. With Aurora still caught in a trance, he quickly lowered her down, impaling the woman into her impeccably clenched hole. Swooning, witch and wizard fell into one another.
And such was the way they spent they spent their morning. Curled into him, Aurora continued to occupy Severus' lap into the late morning hours. Softly thrusting, the couple leisurely loved each other, never seeking a faster pace as this would lead them to an alternative orgasmic fate they'd, surprisingly, never reached. Morning continued on, as they were embraced together, seeking the end result of their physical movement, pleasured stimulus and love. Lifting her hips in time as Severus withdrew, Aurora sought for heaven; and so they did.
Several times before their clock even chimed ten.
~ oOo ~
"Sev…do you wanna go ice skating with me?"
Peering incredulously over the top of his parchment, Severus stared long and hard at the female occupying the couch, her own class reports in hand. Rubbing his temple, the male set aside the quill, turning full attention to her. "…ice skating?"
"Yes," Aurora replied, matter-of-factly. Head moving to face him, she couldn't resist the smile at seeing the way her wizard's face contorted in dumbfoundment. Swallowing the laughter in her throat, she sat straighter from her leaned position against the cushions. "What is it?" she asked when he still hadn't said anything.
Taking a moment to consider her question, Severus answered hers with one of his own. "You do realize it is the end of October, don't you?"
"…yes?" The woman answered hesitantly, already knowing the time of year they were currently in. "So? What does the month matter?"
Palm falling to hide his face, the wizard chuckled into his hand. "It's not cold enough for snow, how do you expect to go ice skating when the lake doesn't freeze over, even in winter?"
Rolling her eyes, Aurora twisted around, laying her arms on the back of the couch staring in mild amusement. "Are you seriously asking me that question? Goodness Sev, I knew you were a powerful wizard but not so powerful enough to forget you are one." Grinning wildly, she snickered. "I'll freeze a portion of the lake myself, duh!"
"Oh really?" Whisking away from his seated position, Severus strode directly towards the couch, hands latching besides hers. As he leaned down, lips dropped mere centimeters from hers, voice menacingly low in learning his woman's extraordinary attachment to the depth in which he spoke. "My, aren't you just cheeky this morning, Aurora."
Eyelids dropped, the witch was caught in his trap. "Damn you, Severus," she groaned before blue orbs blinking. "I should never have told you this morning."
"Hm, you might regret it; however, I don't. If anything, you've just given me another way I can torture you without others suspecting."
Aurora stretched upwards to crash her lips against the corner of his mouth. "You are one cruel wizard, Severus, and if I may, it's rather sexy on you."
"I would think the sexy one here is you, Aurora."
Bloody hell, can he tempt my anymore with just the pronunciation of my name? She couldn't help but to think.
"I'm just gonna to agree to disagree on that one. And yes, I'm being cheeky because someone - " She stabbed her index finger into his chest. " - won't answer my question!"
Having purposely diverted the conservation long enough, he finally relented. Leaving a kiss in her hair, Severus retreated to his desk; poor unfortunate potion essays in dire needed to be marks with red quill ink. "Although I'd want nothing more than to spend the afternoon with you, I must decline." Holding up his hand, knowing she would whine, Severus was to quick to add, "I have more than enough work to grade and lessons to prepare for next week. Besides, what would the students say about me ice skating?"
"Good grief," she rolled her eyes once more. Maneuvering behind her wizard, Aurora tightly wrapped her arms around his braid shoulders. "I respect your decision to keep our relationship a secret, doesn't mean I don't wish we could enjoy ourselves outside of this room."
He peered hopelessly at her. "Are you…upset with me?"
"No, no sweetie," was her soft, quick response. "I one-hundred percent agree to keep what we have a secret. But…going from having you all to myself all day, every day throughout the summer to only seeing you at meals or at night has left me sad."
Dragging her from behind him, Severus held her against his side, starring at the numerous stacks of parchment screaming at him to be graded. "I am aware of the situation, and for what you go through, I am sorry."
"Hey, no apologizing." Kissing his temple, she leaned down, staring straight into his gorgeous eyes. "From the beginning, I knew this would be difficult while in the castle. As long as you stay by my side, that's all I need." Removing herself, Aurora stepped away into their room, leaving Severus bewildered at how the woman tolerated him. Engrossing himself in the unwanted task of correcting papers, Severus resumed the same parchment he had, barely able to scratch another red mark when the woman returned. Skates over one shoulder, tight jeans, sneakers, along with a thick sweatshirt, Aurora was ready to enjoy the afternoon. "I'm all set!" she proclaimed.
"Someone looks ready for the cold. Too bad I'd prefer to take off all that clothing and - "
Smacking Severus' arm before he had a chance to finish, the woman whistled for Sapphire, who then curled around her neck. "After this morning, give me some time to recover," she joked.
"I must ask…" Pausing the quills movement, Severus watched his love, lips twitching to tilt upward in the way she composed herself. "Why ice skating?"
"Why not?" Aurora countered. "It's…something I used to do with my dad." As Severus now knew, whenever she mentioned her dad' she was always referring to her step-father, the man who adopted her and claimed young Aurora as his own. "Considering I've done ballet since I was little, he taught me how to ice skate and sometimes it's nice to think he's still with me."
He couldn't deny her sentiment, but it was a feeling he couldn't understand. "So, you continue ballet for your mother, and ice skating for your dad?"
Eyes slowly blinking, she turned her head back and forth, the correlation eerie to dismiss. "Bloody hell, I never thought of it that way. I like the thought though, thank you Sev!" Bouncing back to him, she smacked her lips against his temple, lingering several seconds then popping away, bounding for the door as quick as she was. Just before she left, Severus reminded her of the potion vial Remus needed, as they brewed a new batch for the upcoming full moon the following week. Agreeing, she stopped by his office where they'd been concocting all the monthly potions, grabbed one, then left.
Bounding up from the dungeons, she was greeted by students, those who decided against traversing to Hogsmeade, and those who were First or Second Years. She questioned several to see if they'd seen Professor Lupin, one stating she noticed him leaving towards the courtyard just minutes prior. Thanking them, she left, exiting the through the main entrance, finally aware the overhead sky covered in darkening clouds. Moisture lingered in the air as a cushioned pillow of fog blanketed over the grounds.
It was a beautiful fall afternoon.
Trekking over to the bridge connecting the castle to the rest of the grounds, Aurora had barely made it to the middle of the bridge when she was able to see Remus and Harry. Both were leaning against the railing, deep in discussion. Not wanting to interrupt, she lingered close, waiting patiently for the moment she could politely interrupt. Her intent wasn't to eavesdrop, though their voices were just loud enough she could still hear them.
"…before I fainted, I heard something. A woman…screaming," Harry stated, seeming to remember the night on the train.
"Dementors force us to relive our very worst memories," Remus commented, watching the boy closely. "Our pain thus becomes their power."
"I think…I think it was my mother…the night she was murdered."
Aurora could only watch as Remus clutched the railing tighter, his own grief and pain from that night so long ago ever fresh in his heart. "The very first time I saw you Harry, I recognized you immediately. Not by your scar," he motioned to the boy's forehead. "But by your eyes; they're your mother, Lily's."
Quizzically, Harry stared up at his professor. "You…knew my mother?"
"Yes…oh yes, I knew her." Falling back, Remus staggered to the opposite side, gripping the wooden post in a death grip. "Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was. Not only was she a singularly gifted witch, she was also uncommonly kind. She had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even when that person could not see it in themselves. And your father, James, on the other hand, he…he had a certain, shall we say, talent for trouble. A talent…" Returning to his student's side, the professor grinned downward at the boy who so reminded him of his long lost friends. "A talent, rumor has it, he passed on to you."
Sighing, Remus oversaw the beauty around them. Life was grey surrounding Hogwarts, the wonders of their magical world captivated in the picturesque portrait of their surroundings. "You're more like them than you know, Harry. In time, you'll come to see just how much. Isn't that right, Aurora?"
Shrieking, she jumped backwards, hands held upwards in defense. "I-I-I wasn't eavesdropping I swear!"
Harry chuckled at his Professor while Remus waved his hand. "Nonsense I knew you were there the whole time." Joining them, the three grew quiet, basking in the calming resonance of owls delivering their letters, the overall silence welcoming.
"Aurora?"
Peering over the railing to her students, the witch smiled. "Yes Harry?"
"Did you…did you know my parents as well?"
Peripheral vision was a blessing and a curse, as she noticed Remus glance at her, knowing all to well her history with the Potters. Nodding once, she didn't elaborate as quick as she should have; instead, Aurora collected her thoughts, enough to calm her beating heart. Memories returned. Their words, threats, confrontations all at once forced the woman to real from her past self; she was no longer in such a place and could no longer be treated in such a way. "…I did," she was finally able to say.
It was the brightness of his eyes, the glow of curiosity and an unknown love for parents the boy never knew, that allowed Aurora to accept the lie she'd be forced to tell.
"You did?" Harry asked incredulously. "Were you in the same year like Professor Lupin?"
She scoffed with a wave of a hand. "Oh no, no. Both your parents were in their Fifth Year when I started Hogwarts. Obviously we didn't have any classes together, but back then, it didn't matter whether you were a First or Seventh Year; everyone knew James Potter and his friends." Glancing down at the boy who'd snuck in-between his Professors, Aurora knew her lie was for the best regarding her students. Harry was already bombarded with his own struggle from his past; she did not want to add any weight from hers. "Remus was correct. Your father definitely had a way of getting into trouble; a knack he passed down to you."
Seeming embarrassed, Harry cast his attention across the bridge, sight wandering aimlessly over the grounds. His smile peaked of course; holding a discussion this long about his parents had been rare to come by. Not many were willing to share stories, in fear of causing pain to the boy. "I just…can't believe it all. You've been here since I joined Hogwarts and all this time you knew my parents." Turning back to her, he asked, "Why haven't you said anything?"
Shoulders slumped, guilt consumed the woman. "Oh Harry…I didn't feel it was right. How would you'd've felt if I suddenly brought up your parents in a conversation? What…what was I supposed to say? Harry, you were young, so new to Hogwarts and the world you were born in." Ruffling his hair earned an honest laugh. "If ever you want to ask me anything, you're more than welcome; I'll answer as much as I can. Though…" Acknowledging Remus watching them she smirked, pointing at the male professor. "Remus would definitely know more than me."
"Putting me on the spot, aren't you, Aurora?"
"Won't deny Harry the truth. Besides, you were their friends. I was only acquaintances of theirs."
"Can I…?" Drawn back to Harry, both professors glanced on in curiosity. "Can I ask some more about them?"
Gripping his shoulder, Aurora made sure Harry knew her door would always be open. "Anytime, Harry. I've told you before; any questions you have, you're always welcome to come see me. But now," drawing the potion vial from her pocket, she rolled the glass in her hands. Swallowing with a roll of his eyes, Remus extended his hand, knowing all to well the concoction he needed tonight, and the next night, and the five after that. "I stopped by to drop that off for Remus. And so I could go ice-skating."
Snorting in dumbfoundment, Remus then laughed. "Ice-skating; now? You do realize the lake's not frozen over?"
"What is with that reaction today? Severus said the same thing!" Groaning in annoyance, she removed her wand. "Um, hello! I'm a witch? I can freeze it myself!"
Compared to his actual reaction, the newest Professor wasn't surprised. Aurora had always been such a way, even when they were young students. If there was something she wanted to do, then by Merlin she would find a way to do so. Patting her shoulder, Remus offered the same statement he always stated in her odd moments such as this. "Your oddity is a breath of fresh air."
"Wow," Aurora smirked. "Now that's a line I haven't heard in years."
"The truth hasn't changed."
Giggling, she smiled. "Thank you! Hmm, do you two wanna join? It'll be fun!" Cheerful and excited, she knew Remus would decline; Harry on the other hand, seemed confused.
"Fun to…ice skate? I've never tried before."
"Like I said, it'll be fun! Wanna try?"
Considering his options - ice skate with one of the few Professors he was close with, or spend time alone in the Dorm - Harry ultimately decided to decline. "No thanks, Aurora. I think…I think I'm gonna find Hedwig and just walk around. Is that alright?"
Lips falling slightly, Aurora wouldn't state she was saddened Harry turned down her offer. She understood, as Ron and Hermione were still in Hogsmeade while he had to remain on the grounds, seemingly feeling left out in the experiences her should be having. "That is perfectly alright sweetie. If you change your mind, I'll be down by the lake; stop by anytime." Removing herself from the two, Aurora made headway down to the lake. Passing by the half-giants hut, she waved at Hagrid, stopping alongside the gentle shore where she could see the glorious castle if she glanced to the left.
Wand in hand, she muttered Glacius, scanning a large portion of the water before her, watching as it froze instantaneously. Several minutes later, content with the large body of water now frozen solid, Aurora slid onto the grass, removing her sneakers to be replaced with the skates. Next thing she knew, Aurora was on the ice.
Not only was the air now slightly bitter, it was elevating.
Gliding across the ice, it was as if Aurora hadn't left. Ice skating was a hobby her father introduced when he realized how talented she was with ballet; incorporating the two, young Aurora was able to quickly grasp the sport. Anytime during the year, it didn't matter, her father would take her to the lake near her house or the local skating ring to personally teach her, combing her skills of ballet to that of ice skating. It only added an adventure she and her step-father loved engaging together.
As she was taught, Aurora moved with grace, thighs swiftly turning, circling, jumping, whatever she wanted. She was enjoying this moment, one to let go while remembering what she'd lost while leaving a smile on her face.
Gliding down the length of frozen water, Aurora zoomed, pushing herself faster and faster until her hair whipped all around her face. Forward, backward, it did not matter; whichever way her body wanted to go, she went. Similar to ballet, ice skating had become an outlet. The speed she held, curling backwards as her skates slid smoothly, was exhilarating. Switching between moving backward and forward, Aurora went through the techniques she knew, though it didn't matter what she did. Simply breathing in the icy air settled the woman to be at peace.
"Aurora?"
Having been flying forward on one leg, she glanced to the shore upon hearing her name; Aurora spotted the brown-haired Third Year. Opening her mouth to speak, she found it was replaced with a scream. Ankle giving away, the momentum her upper body lost concentration, her face landing directly on the ice as she skidded several feet before she stopped and fully slumped into the ice. Skin instantly numb, the witch lay motionless.
"Professor!"
Feet thudding against the ice, Aurora's eyes spiraled, dizziness overtaking her senses, trying to focus on the figure headed her way. Gasps and blurred words entered her ears as she shook her head, feeling along her skin for any possible injuries. Feeling a body kneel next to her, she stared at whoever it was, face coming into view as the dizziness subsided to see Harry by her side. "Goodness Harry! What're you doing here?"
"I…I changed my mind." Sheepishly, Harry rubbed his neck. "Forget about that. I'm sorry, I didn't think that would happen! Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
Waving him off, she smiled, tenderly touching the skin on her face. "Please, that was nothing, I've been through worse." Wincing, she realized the tenderness of her nose as it had been the focal point. "Ouchie, alright…can't lie, that does hurt." Face falling, Harry held his hand out, Aurora accepting as she slowly stood onto her skates. Stepping with care, they walked back to shore where she plopped onto her behind, legs outstretched as the young wizard followed suit.
Ruffling his hair, Aurora said, "Don't worry about me kiddo, I was bound to fall anyway. It has been some years since I last skated."
"You've done this before?"
"Of course! My dad…he taught me when I was younger. I grew up doing ballet so it was really easy to learn." Leaning back against her hands, Aurora turned her head to the sky, enjoying the bitterness from the ice along with the crisp, fall breeze through the air.
Pulling his knees closer, Harry seemed stumped. "Your dad…he's the one who taught you?"
"That's right."
"But then…" Harry eyed his professor carefully. Whether he was brave or dumb enough to bring up such a topic, he dared to take the plunge. "The man who turned into your boggart a few weeks ago…wasn't he your father?"
Tensing, she straightened. Copying the boy's stance, she wrapped her arms around her bent legs. Taking a deep breath, Aurora knew it was something to speak of; withholding such information inside was not good for her heart. Though, would it be professional of her to speak of a topic to a student? "…yes, the man my boggart turned into was indeed my father - my biological father. The man I am referring to is my step-father, the man my mother married several years after she divorced my dad."
"Oh," Harry stated slowly, carefully intaking such information. "I-I'm sorry Aurora…I didn't think - "
"Hey, hey," she gripped his shoulder, motioning for him to face her as she did the same. "Listen, I have my own demons I'm still dealing with; you wouldn't have known the man I think of as my father isn't related to me by blood."
"Did he…did he hurt you?"
Sensing there was more to his curiosity than just a sudden interest, Aurora released a heavy breath. "He did," her voice was surprisingly soft. Tugging on her sweatshirt sleeve, she slid the material up her arm until it bunched at her elbow. Extending the limb for Harry to see, she said, "My father was a violent man. I don't remember much of my childhood, except the times he hurt me and my mother."
Thick, protruding lines garnished her skin. Some seemed to have faded; others, seemed as if they were fresh. Slowly, Harry's fingertips touched each one, noticing how they were sharp lines, etched permanently into the flesh. Peering upward 2with wide, frightened eyes, Harry was at a loss. "H-How…?"
"Remember my boggart? What was he holding."
Reflecting on the event several weeks prior, Harry conjured the memory, and the answer to her question slipping past his lips without thinking. "These were made with a broken bottles?!"
"Mhm." Taking back her arm, she lowered the sleeve. "Such was my childhood, but it's people like my step-father who made living worthwhile." Harry froze momentarily, knowing exactly what she meant. He opened his mouth to ask more questions, but Aurora merely shook her head. "Some things from our past are too difficult to remanence of; this is one such thing."
Nodding, Harry didn't push the matter, it wasn't his to discuss. Instead, he uncurled his arms and stood, hand extended to his professor. "Do you think…you can teach me how to ice skate?"
Seeing the way Aurora's smile returned, the young Gryffindor knew he had gone to far with his questions. He couldn't comprehend before, and he surely couldn't fathom what he learned now. Hearing Aurora talk about her actual father was the way he had lived with the Dursley's. Since encountering the woman in his First Year, Harry had sensed a relatable connection with the witch, never quite able to place w finger on why. Now, it seemed he understood; for she had lived a similar life as he.
Still, for him to ask such questions, having her deliver the boggart and what she experienced…why had he done such a thing? That is why he now stood before her, wondering if her previous offer was still available. He genuinely was interested in the sport, seeing the way she moved across the ice intrigued him. If this was his way for Aurora to shove aside her memories, he'd gladly assist in hiding her demons. The witch had become a close friend to Harry, someone in Hogwarts he knew he could trust wholeheartedly; aside from Ron and Hermione.
Taking his hand to help stand to her feet, Aurora carefully stepped back onto the ice, motioning for her student to do the same. Whisking her wand at the boy's shoes, she muttered a spell, taking hold of his shoulders as his sneakers were then transfigured into skates. If it weren't for her hold on him, Harry would've fallen completely over.
"Skating in general is all about balance and learning to walk with the ice. Now, hold my hand and try to take several steps forward as if you're walking."
Nervous, Harry gulped, having never attempted something like this. Doing as instructed, his feet moved mere inches, blade clinking into the ice as Aurora moved backward to give him room. A step here, one there - Harry could feel his body wavering. Having moved away from the shore, Aurora released his hands, smirking when he noticed the warmth gone from his fingers. Circling around the boy, she chuckled, watching as his arms flailed, balance failing without her assistance. Skidding to a halt before him, Aurora offered his hand once more.
"So…you ready to give this a try?"
~ oOo ~
Harry stayed beside his professor's side for several hours, braving the frozen lake as he learned to accept his fate of falling while in the process of learning. Surprised to see how quickly he captured the concept of skating, Aurora was very pleased. It was an afternoon of fun, both able to let go and enjoy the moment while the world continued to exist around them. Aurora knew her student was disappointed he couldn't enjoy the day with his friends, which is why she wanted to create something different he could do, rather than mope around the near empty castle. Judging by the smile he held, the woman guessed she has succeeded.
In the waning afternoon light, Harry fell upon the shore, legs stretched straight outward, relieving muscles he never knew existed. The boy had a brilliant time and was ecstatic he changed his mind. From the first class he had with Aurora, Harry knew she was unlike the other teachers he met at Hogwarts, even those he had met while still living with the Dursley's. She was someone he could turn to when his friends weren't there, having provided countless support even before knowing he needed it.
Transforming his shoes back to the way they were, student and professor bid farewell, as Ron and Hermione were bound to have returned. Profusely thanking Aurora, Harry left, leaving the witch alone once again as she simply skated away. The sun had drifted lower in the sky, enveloping the castle grounds in a rainbow of fiery flame. Dancing through the ripples of remaining sunlight, the witch was unaware she had another guest.
"Do you plan on remaining out here all night?"
Head bouncing upward, Aurora noticed the figure coated in black standing firmly on the shore. "Severus!" she cried happily. As she circled around, she beelined straight towards him, when the same ankle as earlier gave way, legs flinging forward as she bounced onto her bottom, sliding to a complete stop, a blank stare covering her face. Blinking, the woman groaned, standing on shaky legs rubbing her tender behind. "You have got to be kidding me. The same damn thing happened just a few hours ago!"
"Maybe that's your sign to come in for dinner."
Ears perked, Aurora slowly stumbled to shore for the last time. Waving a hand towards the ice, the hardened form loosened, turning back into its liquified state. Grasping Severus' extended hand, she stepped onto the sand, making way towards her discarded shoes on the grass where she sat, wincing due to the tenderness from her fall. "Sign or not, it wasn't fun."
Chuckling beside her, Severus crossed his arms. "Maybe not, but it was funny to watch."
Swatting his leg, she removed both blades to be replaced with sneakers. "Bloody hell Sev, you are just…terrible!" Standing to her feet, Severus held her firmly, studying her face closely.
"You said you fell earlier…was that on your face?"
Head hung low, her hair bounced with her nod. "Yeah…I ran into Harry and Remus on the way out here and offered to teach him how to skate. He first declined then suddenly showed up when I was on the ice; I lost my balance when he called my name." Gasp leaving her lips, Aurora froze, eyes following Severus as she realized he had leaned down to her height and kissed the tip of her nose. They had just discussed before she left how he still wanted to keep their relationship a secret and now he was openly kissing her on the grounds?
"You may have a bruise forming, but I'm glad Potter didn't cause you anymore harm." Walking away from the lake, Aurora followed, skates tightly held in her arms.
"He didn't mean it Sev, it was an accident."
Ignoring her statement, Severus added his own with, "Regarding your behind, since I'm the one who caused it, I might be able to help." Watching the woman from his peripheral, he wasn't surprised to find Aurora quickly shaking her head.
"What am I gonna do with you, Sev? I mean honestly…though I might just take you up on that offer," she whispered the last part.
Smugly, Severus stated, "Thought so."
Over an hour later, Severus and Aurora had just returned to their chambers after dinner. Having assumed correctly, the Great Hall was lively with chatter, students showing their friends any gadgets and sweets they purchased in Hogsmeade. Amused by their canter and excitement, Aurora was still eager to leave, desiring nothing more than to enjoy a quiet Saturday evening with Severus, particularly eager to accept his offer. By the time the two had left, the Hall was still rowdy though most students had left to their dormitories, their legs moved quicker to escape down into the dungeons. Upon entering said chambers, Aurora fell onto the couch, throwing her feet over the edge as she was bombarded by her furry companions.
"Geez…I am glad the students had fun today, but goodness, am I glad to be here with some peace and quiet!"
Removing his cloak, Severus stood over the woman, dropping one knee over her form without saying a word. Merlin meowed as he and Sapphire ran away, returning to their specific spots within the sitting room. Eyes upon the wizard, Aurora grinned, knowing exactly what the man was about to do. Grasping the back of the couch, Severus hovered, black hair dangling as each strand kissed her face.
"You may be here for peace and quiet, but I can assure you…" Nearing her ear, Severus nipped the outer lobe. Chest rumbling, Aurora's arms wrapped around his neck, drawing the man even closer. Their escapades that morning had not dampened a second moment for pleasure; if anything, it heightened any lingering sexual tension. "…you won't be able to stop screaming when I'm done with you."
"You play dirty, Sev." Partially mortified in revealing her secret this morning, Aurora squirmed. It never took much for her juices to gather; now, it seemed the dam was forever breached. And Severus would use this to his advantage. "I will admit, my butt is especially tender, though I wonder what you'll be able to do for it."
An eyebrow arched. "You question my abilities?"
"I would never."
Shrieking, Aurora was dragged by the calves until Severus could maneuver his hands to grip her taught behind. Kneading into the muscled flesh, the woman squealed even more, grinding her lower half into his hands, slowly awaiting to see how he would overpower her. Leaning forward, Severus stole a quick kiss, quieting the witch, her stunned facade soon falling to reclaim his lips. Hands venturing to her waist, the wizard gripped whatever flesh he could grab, her moans only encouraging his bravado.
"Ohhh Severus…"
"That's it Aurora, feel the - "
"Severus? Aurora?"
Caught off guard, Severus suddenly stood while Aurora squealed, having fallen to the floor as the wizard abruptly jumped to his feet. It had been the two of them since dinner; no one was to be joining them nor had their portrait alarmed the presence of any guests. Who in the hell…? Reaching down to grasp her arm, Severus motioned across the room as Aurora rubbed her elbows. "What in the world?" Standing by their chamber door was the bright, glowing form of Albus' patronus, patiently waiting for their attention.
"Severus, Aurora; we have an emergency." Maneuvering around the couch, witch and wizard removed their wands. Albus typically used his patronus when needing to send a messages and very rarely had he used the incantation to bring awareness regarding an emergency. "All staff are to meet outside the Great Hall as soon as possible. Sirius Black has broken into the castle."
Within a puff of smoke, the spell vanished.
Stunned, Severus was the first to move, Aurora right on his heels, calling former companions to stay where they were. Running outside, the pair quickly made their way through the coldness of the castle's lower floors. Two steps at a time, the professors were at the wide double-doors to the Great Hall, seeing the rest of the staff except for Minerva and Albus. Questions were asked amongst the staff with concerned expressions. All were in disbelief that the infamous murderer and recent Azkaban escapee had actually made his way into the most guarded structure in Great Britain.
Footsteps echoing towards them, all staff glanced to see the Headmaster. Hand raised to quiet the staff, he then said, "Everything will be explained soon. For now, the entire castle must be searched from the tallest tower to the deepest dungeon." Calling the staff by their names, the Headmaster instructed each individual where they were to search. "Severus, you are to check the dungeons and the Slytherin Common Room; I'm not taking any chances just because he attacked the Gryffindor portrait. And Aurora." Eyes following her, Severus waited to hear where she was to be. "Minerva is having the Gryffindor students change, in which they will be spending the night in the Great Hall. I'd like you to prepare the hall with the necessary arrangements, and you are to watch over them until we have cleared the castle."
"Of course." The Headmaster moved to leave, barely given the chance when Aurora voiced a hesitant suggestion. "Albus, if I might? Wouldn't it be ideal to place a Notifying Charm on every door that is searched? We don't know what Black is capable of, nor where he might be. If he is still in the classroom, we can be notified of where he is."
"That's not a bad idea, Aurora. I will inform the staff." Drifting away, Albus left the two as he returned back to Gryffindor portrait to console The Fat Lady and to inspect the Common Room himself. Bracing herself for the night to come, Aurora glanced at Severus, standing on tiptoes as she placed a chaste kiss against his cheek.
"That was a good call."
"Anything to help find him. Now, stay aware. The dungeons can be a nasty place." She attempted to joke, though her smile was faulty.
"The only thing scary down there is me, and you somehow tolerate that." Returning her kiss, he moved towards the dungeons, Severus disappeared from view, the witch only moving when his blackened cloak vanished from view.
Stepping inside the Great Hall, Aurora swiftly moved around, diminishing the size of each table all the while conjuring enough sleeping bags for all the Gryffindors. Zooming towards the staff table, each lay perfectly in an organized manner, waiting for when they would be picked up by a possible frightened student. Aurora then walked alongside the hall's edging, casting charms upon the glass and the doorway by the staff table. Just as she'd finished, the scuffling of feet had the woman turning to see Minerva briskly heading straight towards her.
Meeting halfway, Minerva said, "You know the students are to stay here tonight?"
"Yes, I'll be watching them until the castle has been cleared."
Brisk with her words, the elder witch spoke swiftly. "Good, I will be checking the seventh floor. They are in your hands, Aurora." Green cloak circling around the master witch as she hurried to the peak of the castle, an abundant number of eyes at once turned to Aurora.
"Everything will be fine," she reassured; but she could only imagine what each Gryffindor was thinking. "For now, I want you to - "
"How do you know we're safe?"
Pausing, Aurora turned, noticing Seamus Finnigan stepped forth. Her own eyes wandering to each student, it was then she realized their fear of the situation was similar to hers about her father. They didn't know what this man was capable of until he almost succeeded in breaking into their home within the castle. Recalling all the times she'd assumed Mark would never hurt her again, she silently recalled each moment when she would remember what her birth father could actually do - and what he would do.
"You are safe because I will keep you safe. For now, I would like each of you to gather a bedroll from the table and find a place on the floor where you will be comfortable. Once everyone is situated, we can talk then."
Almost like machines, all the students moved to the staff table, grabbed what they needed, then dispersed across the fall. Friends or siblings sought one another, sticking in a group as they established a makeshift bed for the night wherever they felt comfortable. Standing by the head table, Aurora observed the tired faces, the weary eyes. Some were able to conceal their fears; others, she could tell, were vividly scared. It didn't matter if the student was a Seventh Year or a First; this was a frightening experience to handle.
Once all bedrolls had been taken, Aurora summoned a chair, sitting right in front of all the students as they grew comfortable, as best they could on stone flooring. She'd instructed them to keep a pathway in the middle from the doorway, watching the room split in two. It took some time, the witch giving everyone space they might need; it was going to be a long night.
"Alright…" Everyone's eyes turned towards the woman who had either been their professor, or a staff member they grew to care for. "Seamus brought up a good point earlier: how do you know you're safe." Deciding to stand, she maneuvered down the path between the students. "Trust me when I say this. Albus has been aware the possibility of Sirius Black returning to the castle. The Dementors have been placed around the grounds for your protection due to the Ministries orders. The Headmaster has his own way of protecting the students." Circling as she walked, Aurora wanted to ensure everyone could hear her, and that she was trying to talk to everyone at once.
"Outside your education, your safety is the Headmaster's number one priority. He was charms, enchantments, spells, you name it cast upon the castle and grounds. Nothing can get in, while nothing can get out."
"But Black did get in. That's why we're here!" Murmuring ensued, voices hastily speaking to agree with the statement.
Raising her hand, their voices fell. "Yes, you're correct, Sirius Black did somehow get in. And yet, you're still here." Any murmuring that remained was now silenced. "The Fat Lady, though scared as she should be, did her job; she refused to allow Black into your dorm, did she not? And now you're here in the Great Hall with me to protect you."
"But Professor…once the castle is searched, won't you head to your own chambers for the night?"
"No," her immediate voice rang across the hall. "I will be staying here all night to ensure your safety." Loud voices argued against her, difference in opinions between the two as most Gryffindors thought she deserved the night to herself. Raising her her hand once more, silence fell upon them. "Like I've said, my top priority is to ensure the safety of my students. Besides, what kind of Gryffindor would I be if I didn't protect those from my own House?"
Seemingly, the students' fears diminished knowing they would be protected throughout the night, allowing Aurora the ability to mingle around the room. One by one each student fell into a deep slumber, the quietness of the hall seeping into the woman's ears. Some snored, some tossed around while the majority slept smoothly.
With no clock to determine the time, Aurora could only guess two, maybe three hours had passed since she and Severus we're called. Nothing had occurred since the students fell asleep, where she found herself constantly moving, checking to see if any were awake. The stillness of the night was indeed eerie, leaving Aurora on her toes. Shield up, any sound, any squeak had the woman turning. It would indeed by a long night for the witch.
A long night of overthinking of past memories and current state of affairs.
Whispers echoed into the hall, stalling Aurora as she recognized the voices of Minerva and Albus. Entering the large room, Minerva nodded to the youngest staff as she headed back in the direction she came; Albus, however, beelined straight towards her. In his normal voiced, he inquired on the status of the students.
"To be frank, Albus, they're scared. I think tonight showed them the seriousness of the situation."
"Did any of them cause any trouble?"
Her loose ponytail shook alongside her head. "No sir. They each grabbed their bedroll, found a spot, and we simply talked."
Patting her arm, the Headmaster heaved a heavy breath. "Well, done; I've no doubt you provided the support they needed. You are more than welcome to return to your chambers Aurora."
"Not possible." Eyeing her, Aurora through rows of the students, checking each one as she had for the last few hours. "I promised them I'd stay here all night; that's a promise I won't break."
Knowing she wouldn't be convinced otherwise, Albus let the subject drift away. He knew not to argue with Aurora when she had already made her decision. Instead, he acknowledged the enchantments she placed surrounding the hall, pleasantly surprised, and impressed, in her decision.
Acknowledging what the Headmaster was glancing at, she stated, "I timed every charm. Each will remove itself when the students are allowed back into their House."
"Very resourceful, Aurora. I have been impressed with your work even when you were a student. Everyday I see you in the castle, I am filled with happiness that I asked for you to join the staff." Beaming, the witch didn't expect such a statement from the Headmaster. Wanting to speak more, Albus moved in her direction when more footsteps interrupted their silent conversation.
"Headmaster!" Nearly shouting to gain Albus' attention, Filch quickly moved down the aisle towards their position. Finger to her mouth, Aurora shushed the castle caretaker who flinched at her brashness. Knowing not to mess with her, Filch lowered his voice. "I've searched the Astronomy Tower and the Owlery, sir; nothing's there."
Sensing two more people having joined, Aurora nodded to Filius who took a position besides Argus. As she swept behind the men away from the giant doors, she caught sight of Severus stepping through, his clock billowing as he quickened each step. Blinking at her, Aurora turned sharply, not wanting the others to see her cheeks reddening in remembering the night she and Severus were to have.
"Sir, the third floor's clear too."
"Ah, thank you." Severus replaced the two men, who walked through the sea of students to see if any were awake.
"I've done the dungeons, Headmaster. No sign of Black, nor anywhere else in the castle."
"Hmm, yes, I didn't really expect him to linger."
"Remarkable feat, don't you think?" Listening to the two, Aurora decided she needed a moment. Having sat down in the aisle, she crossed her legs, wondering and questioning where Black had gone when denied entry into the Gryffindor Dormitory. Better yet, she wanted to know how he even snuck inside the castle? She knew Sirius and his friends were secretive as students; had they uncovered a undisclosed tunnel no one else knew about? "To enter Hogwarts Castle on one's own…completely undetected?"
"Quite remarkable, yes." Both were moving in her direction, slowly, but surely they would stop before her. Eyes glanced to the side, Aurora only realized then Harry's position was right beside her; thankfully, his eyes were closed.
"Any theories on how he managed it?"
"Many. Each as unlikely as the next."
"Why unlikely?" Interjecting, the males glanced at Aurora on the ground. Raising her head, she peered tiredly at the men. "Hogwarts is known for its secrets. Surely there's a passage or entrance that is still hidden, even from you, Albus." Peeking back down at Harry, Aurora held her neutral expression. Their eyes catching momentarily, hers cast aside towards the rest of the room, only one widening in realization; and it wasn't her. Mumbling for him to remain quiet, Harry stared forward, not sure what to make of the conversation he was hearing.
"Nothing is impossible in this castle, though it would surprise even me," Albus stated.
"You may recall…" Turning the conversation towards his true intent, Severus linked his fingers together, eyes moving from his woman up to the Headmaster he respected. "…prior to the start of term I expressed concerns…about your appointment of Professor …"
"Not a single professor inside this castle would help Sirius Black enter it. I'm quite convinced the castle is safe…and I'm more than willing to send the students back to their houses."
"With a guarantee their House Portraits won't be cut down like The Fat Lady?"
Silenced, Aurora took Albus by surprise, having spoken out several times against that night. Her words meant well. Under enough stress, the Headmaster allowed what she said to pass, considering he was at a loss. Having known the secrets Lily and James Potter kept hidden during the last year of their lives, Albus wasn't fully convinced Sirius Black was the murderer their magical world claimed him to be.
"I believed the precautions I'd placed at the beginning of term were enough. If anything, we now have an insight on how to better protect the students." Seeming to appease the witch, glanced at Severus.
"What about Potter?" He asked in her stead. "Should he be warned?"
"Perhaps, but for now, let him sleep. For in dreams we whether a world that's entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest ocean, or glide over the highest cloud."
Stepping away, Severus followed Albus to the head of the hall, leaving Aurora to watch over the students. Turning her body around until her back was to the door, she finally acknowledged Harry. "You should be asleep."
"I…I heard them talking"
"Ahh, so you were eavesdropping."
"Kinda hard when they're right beside you."
Snickering, she ruffled Harry's head, the already fluffy dark locks aloof once more. "Everything will be alright, Harry. I know these last two years haven't exactly been accident free, but just know that you don't have to take on everything yourself, and that includes Ron and Hermione. If not the other adults, come find me."
Simply nodding, Harry closed is eyes, succumbing back to the dreams of his sleep. Knowing full well he could trust Aurora, he was not aware of the set of black eyes watching the two of them from afar.

Personally, I can't wait until Year Three is over. I'm struggling with these chapters, but I most excited for what's to come during the summer and after.
