Seto banged on Yami's bedroom door, having been let in to check on Yami by Yami's mother. Yami got out of bed and opened the door, his face pale with red splotches all across his skin. "What is it?" Yami asked hoarsely.
"What the hell happened to you? You had us all worried." Seto demanded the teen.
"What are you talking about?" Yami questioned as Seto came into the room and made Yami strip his top. Two puncture wounds on Yami's shoulders only a few days old were visible, and when Seto asked Yami the date, Yami responded with Monday night. It was Monday morning.
"Oh god. You were taken. I'm calling Marik, he'll have the stuff to help."
Yami just looked utterly confused. "I got a cold, Seto. I haven't left the house since I got back from school." Yami said, then went into a rather ugly coughing fit.
"This is no cold. It's a side effect of fruit and fish" He said as he dialed Marik's number
"What is it, Seto?" a young voice asked. "You know my sister hates it when you call before I finish my homework."
"We have a code v s."
"Where are you right now? I'll be over with Ishizu."
"Yami's house."
"Five minutes." Marik said on the phone and hung up. Yami was back to laying down on the bed and trying to stay awake.
"Don't fall asleep, Yami. We'll find them," Seto said, then called Seth.
Yami ignored him, curling up more for some rest. He closed his eyes and opened them again to see three worried faces and an IV in his arm.
"Yami!" he yelled.
"What?" Yami asked groggily as Ishizu was doing some blood tests.
"Yugi and Atem did a number on him."
"I got a cold, for Lord's sake! I don't even 'now a 'Ugi and 'Temmy." Yami slurred.
"That's because you lost your memory."
Yami snorted. "Just leave me to sleep!" Yami shouted out.
"Drink this, it will heal you," Marik said, offering the teen an almost suspicious cup of liquid.
Yami drank the liquid, trying not to gag as it went down. "What is in this?" Yami asked once the cup was empty, his cat ears on full display from how weak and unfocused he was.
"Medicine."
"Yami, sleep, and in two hours you'll remember everything."
Yami just grumbled and snuggled into his bed for some rest.
As Yami slept, the last week replayed.
He remembered being fed the blended fruits and fish to help his body recuperate quickly when both vampires gently took a sip or two each from him four days ago. Both were very clear as to why they were having him eat a fourth to a half cup of the blend every two hours. He faintly remembered a woman that looked like Ishizu recommending a different diet of foods three days ago after doing some blood work.
As Yami slept, the two vampires who kidnapped him waited in the shop.
"He is upstairs resting."
"Well, wait til he gives us permission to enter," Yugi said. "We still don't know his name."
Atemu rolled his eyes as he knocked on the door. "Come in." The teen called sleepily.
"You okay?"
"Tired... I think one of the fruits I ate was bad..." Yami groaned.
"We're sorry. Yamiko. Wait, is your name Yami?" Atemu asked smirking.
"Yes. Yamiko is my birth name. I prefer Yami though." Yami stated, sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
"I see. Are you feeling better?"
"My stomach doesn't feel like it's going to heave if I see fish," Yami stated.
Yami just shrugged and looked at the IV line. "I don't even know what I ate that I was allergic to."
"Oh, it wasn't an allergy. It was a side effect from the bd-12 drug in the apples."
"A side effect?" Yami questioned.
"Yeah, different side effects depending on food."
"It would seem you get a semblance of an allergic reaction to apples infused with bd-12," Atemu stated.
"Well, that sucks. Why do I have to take that dumb drug?" Yami asked.
"It helps speed up blood recovery."
Yami gave a pout. "What other side effect am I going to get?" Yami asked as his stomach growled, but Yami didn't feel any pain when it did.
"Unknown. Now, let's feed our little human."
"You don't have to take the drug today, but tomorrow we'll be feeding again."
Yami gave a nod. "Seth was here earlier..." Yami stated softly as Yugi picked him up with ease. Yami just placed his head in the crook of Yugi's neck, closing his eyes for a minute and smelling his mother's famous Mac and Cheese.
"Well, someone's finally up." A woman with black hair and green eyes spoke.
Yami opened his eyes. He was in Yugi's lap, but now at the kitchen table, where a large plate of Mac and Cheese sat before him. He grabbed the bowl and began to devour it.
"Whoa. You haven't had an appetite like this in a year."
"We helped him get his appetite back. Small meals every two hours to get his body used to some cooked food, again. We have yet to get him to eat semi-solid foods." Atemu informed.
"Looks like I was able to. He loves this Mac and cheese."
"Indeed he does," Yugi said.
/Might want to talk to the mother for other comfort foods our little human likes, Atemu./
/Agreed./
"So, how is it? Just like your mom's, huh?"
Yami nodded.
"I'm glad."
"Wait, so you're not his mom?" Yugi asked, his brows knit in confusion.
"Step mom... my mother died during childbirth," Yami stated. "Papa remarried while I was still young. I didn't know the difference until papa went on a business trip and just… never came back."
"Yeah... I'm technically his aunt, but I love him like my own. So if you hurt him, I will not hesitate." She raised the wooden spoon in her hand, which was covered in cheese and a few noodles, in a threatening manner.
"Yes, ma'am." Yugi and Atemu said with a slight gulp. Never cross a mother and gain her wrath over her child.
"Good," she said, smiling as she lowered the spoon. " So, I'm assuming you'd like to be near him?"
"Yes."
"You can stay in the guest room with a king-size bed, then."
"Thank you," Yugi stated as Yami wrapped his tail around Yugi for comfort and out of a bad habit.
"Why don't you go check it out while Yami eats?"
"I'll go and check it," Yugi said, putting Yami into the chair while the teen ate his third bowl of macaroni and cheese, not even noticing he was no longer in Yugi's lap.
"Atemu, why don't you go talk to grandpa? He can give you some tips on Yami's allergies."
"That would be good to know for the future."
"Then go talk to him."
Atemu left the table to the other room as Yami began to purr as he scooped out his fourth bowl his tail happily wagging as his ears twitched and moved on his head.
Atemu left the table and went into the other room as Yami scooped out his fourth bowl, purring happily as his tail swished and ears twitched.
"Yami, hide your tail and ears. I put a spell on them so they don't notice, but they can't know." His mother scolded the teen quietly, so as not to alert the others of his secret. Yami pouted as his tail and ears disappeared with a small poof of smoke.
"I know you like them out, but what if they're hunters like Connor?"
"I don't think they are hunters... but I can see your point..." Yami said with a wince.
"I just worry. We just met them, so be patient."
"I'll be more careful, but you know I let them out if I get comfortable... I can't help that..." Yami said as he looked down into his bowl of mac and cheese.
"I know, so wear this," She said, handing him a box. Inside it was a concealing necklace. Yami sighed and took the necklace, putting it on and hiding it under his shirt.
"Good."
"Well, apparently we can't feed him salmon when he takes his drug." Atemu said. Yami looked up to see Atemu entering with his grandpa, both talking civilly.
"Yes. He'd probably try to murder you if you ruin his favorite dish." Arthur said.
Yami rolled his eyes at this, then finished his bowl and yawned.
"Why don't you head upstairs and nap? I'll talk about recipes with Yugi."
"Alright."
