A/N:

Thank you so much for all your kind reviews and for keeping up with this story and my other stories. I really appreciate it and don't take it for granted, so once again, thank you.

The next chapter will have some angst and some hospital scenes in it, so if it's a trigger to anyone, I'm giving you a heads up.

The Italic part at the beginning of the chapter is from chapter 6.

Chapter 7:

Eventually, both Amy and Leonard fell asleep in their chairs while they were watching over Sheldon.

Amy didn't even know she fell asleep until pictures from the events of the evening ran through her mind while she was sleeping. In her dream, she was holding Sheldon under the table and she was holding her hand over his gunshot wound as tight as she could without hurting Sheldon even more.

She was solely focused on Sheldon and didn't remove her eyes from him for one second. Sheldon on his hand, was holding her close to him as tight as he could, but little by little Amy felt his grip on her loosen. She whispered to him but he didn't answer, so she checked for pulse and she felt a very weak pulse.

Amy started to panic and cry and she didn't know when the paramedics will come. She heard the sirens, but no one has entered yet and she was afraid she will lose Sheldon. she kept checking his pulse and holding his gunshot wound, but the pulse was getting weaker and weaker every time she checked on him.

All of a sudden Amy woke up with a start and felt that her cheeks were wet from the tears she shed during the time she was dreaming. She leaned in and grabbed Sheldon's hand gently and kissed it lightly and started to caress it as she ran the actual events in her mind once more.

Amy remembered that the paramedics didn't take so long to come into the scene of the shooting. she didn't even remember that Sheldon's pulse got so low like it got in her dream. He actually had a pretty strong pulse when the paramedics came to them and started take care of him.

She kept caressing Sheldon's hand and just wished that he'll feel good once he will be off the anesthesia.

"I hope that you can hear me Sheldon, so you'll know I'm here and I'm not leaving your side… I don't care how much our friends will beg, and I don't care if it goes against every clause in your friendship agreement with Leonard, I'm not leaving your side." Amy said with clogged throat to her fiancé, in hope that he will hear her in his current state, and that maybe it will arise something inside of him.

"I love you, babe." Amy said and kissed his hand once more.

She then laid her head carefully on Sheldon's bed, near his thigh and fell into a dreamless sleep, or at least in the next morning she didn't remember any of the dreams she had other than the one that woke her up with a start.

"I love you too, little lady," Sheldon said, or at least that's what he thought until he realized he is too weak to talk or do anything.

It took Sheldon a while to realize why he is so weak, and then he remembered what happened, and internally sighed in relief, knowing that Amy is alright and is right next to him.

Sheldon wanted to open his eyes so much and look at Amy and tell her everything is going to alright, but he was too weak, so he just kept sleeping and relished the warmth he felt from Amy's head, lying next to his thigh and so close to his hand.

It was dawn when the nurses and doctors entered Sheldon's room for their morning rounds to check on Sheldon.

The entrance of the staff to Sheldon and Amy's room, woke up Amy and Leonard and they both looked between Sheldon and the doctors, who were discussing Sheldon's condition between themselves.

"Is everything alright with Sheldon?" Amy asked in a sleepy, yet somewhat panicked tone.

She was holding Sheldon's hand with both of her hands gently, trying with all her might not to let her nerves get the better of her, which will cause her to hold Sheldon's hand too tight.

For a few moments it seems like the doctors were ignoring Leonard and Amy's presence, and even more, is seems like they were ignoring Amy's question, and just when Amy was about to raise her voice and ask her question again, Dr. Smith, ho operated Sheldon, step forward to talk to Amy and Leonard.

"Good morning, miss Fowler." Dr. Smith said with a small smile and nodded at Amy.

"Good morning, Dr. Smith. How is Sheldon doing?" Amy repeated her question.

"It looks like he is doing okay. We put him on a lot of medications and anesthesia, and it looks like during the night some of them, including the anesthesia started to wear off and from what I see here…" Dr. Smith took a look at Sheldon's charts

"It looked like Sheldon was in conscious state during the night, and then he went back to sleep."

"What do you mean by that?" Leonard asked the doctor.

"Well, from what I see in his charts his brain patterns were of a person that was either awake or at least conscious to what is going on around him while he was sleeping."

"Can I see that?" Amy quickly asked and the doctor looked at her a bit confused as he handed her the charts.

"I'm a neurobiologist." Amy clarified and the doctor let her take a look at Sheldon's chart.

"Yeah… I can see that." Amy showed Leonard Sheldon's chart.

"Here it looks like he is in deep sleep, I'm guessing that's the anesthesia, here you can see that the function of his brain is higher, which mean he was a conscious state, as Dr. Smith said, and here he is in deep sleep again, but not as deep as he was here where the anesthesia was in its full use." Amy explained and the doctor nodded in agreement.

"Was he still under the anesthesia and the drugs when he was conscious?" Amy asked, since she wasn't sure of that.

Dr. Smith looked at the charts again.

"Yes. I guess that's why he wasn't fully awake. Did either of you hear him awaken during the night?"

"No," Both Amy and Leonard answered.

"So… what does that mean?" Amy asked.

"For now, it means that the anesthesia and the medications are wearing off. From what I see here he wasn't in any distress while he was conscious. We will obviously keep giving him the medications, but we will monitor his reaction to waking up. If his reaction will be like the reaction he had during the night, I don't see a reason for us to keep him under anesthesia." Dr. Smith said with a soft smile.

"Thank you so much." Amy said with relieve in her voice.

"I'll see you in a while." Dr. Smith said with a nod and left the room.

Both Amy and Leonard took deep breathes once the doctor left Sheldon's room and looked at Sheldon, who was asleep.

"Umm…" Leonard started but he didn't know how express his thoughts. He was afraid Amy would be offended or get mad at him.

"It's okay Leonard. You can go home. I'm here with Sheldon and I have no intention of leaving him," Amy said with a smile. She understood Leonard and their friends' need to go home and freshen up, and probably go to work.

"Are you sure?" Leonard asked with some hesitation.

"Yes. You should all go home. I'm fine being here with him."

"Okay, but call us if you need anything. We will be back later today.

"I know. Thank you." Amy said with a smile, and just when Leonard was opening the door Amy called him.

"Leonard."

"Yes," Leonard quickly turned around.

"Could you ask Penny to grab me and Sheldon some clothes from our apartment, to bring over here?"

"Of course." Leonard answer.

"Thank you. Do you still have the emergency we gave you?"

"Yes."

"Okay." Amy nodded and Leonard nodded back.

Leonard turned around once more before he left the room, "Call us," he practically pleaded.

"I will. Thank you."

Leonard nodded for the last time and left the room.

Amy wasn't sure what to do next, so she decided to get some more rest, since she still felt overwhelmed and knew she needed to be at her best for Sheldon.

When Amy woke up again, after a few hours of sleep, there was some commotion in their room.

"Is everything alright?" Amy immediately asked the doctors and nurses that were around Sheldon's bed.

"See for yourself." Kim said and moved aside.

"Amy?!" Sheldon whispered weakly and turned his head slightly towards the sound of her voice.

"Sheldon! You're awake." Amy went to his side and held his hand gently.

Sheldon moved his fingers so weakly over Amy's hand that she barely felt it.

"It's going to be alright," Amy said softly and pecked Sheldon's forehead, not caring about their relationship agreement in that moment.

"Yes." Sheldon said softly as he relished the feeling of Amy's comforting touch.
