Epilogue
"Lucy… Are you ready?"
Turning from the mirror, the blonde nodded to the silverette, fiddling with the gown and the beading, "As ready as I'll ever be."
"Mama!" A little boy, around four, ran into the room, his blonde hair spiked with gel and his brown eyes glittering.
"You're so pretty mama! Just like a princess!" A girl, the same age as the boy, wandered in at a calmer pace, a basket of petals in hand.
"Layla. Yuri. You're meant to be at the front of the line." Lucy chided, but knelt down to hug them to her, "Are you excited?"
Yuri picked his ear, a faint blush on his cheeks as he looked away from her, "I don't really get why you and dad are doing this… but it makes you happy. So… so am I."
"Aww. Look at you." Layla poked her brother with glee, her blue eyes glittering with mirth.
"Cut that out!" Yuri hissed, shoving his sister gently, careful not to jostle his mother, mindful of the bulge growing beginning to show on her belly, "And don't stress mum out. She has to be careful."
"You're becoming more and more like your father every day." The new voice caused the occupants of the room to jump and drew a squeal from the youngest female in the room.
"Uncle Leo! I've missed you!" Layla ran towards the Lion spirit, pouncing on his legs with glee.
"Careful now. Don't want to go messing up Auntie Mira and Auntie Levy's hard work do you?" Loke bent to pick the young girl up, laughing when she snatched his glasses from his face and placed them awkwardly on her nose.
"Uncle Loke. What are you doing here?" Yuri stepped back to allow his mother to stand, his eyes narrowing before he pointed an accusing finger at the ginger man, "Are you using her magic? You know you're not meant to-"
"Now, now. You know I wouldn't put your mother or the baby in danger like that. I actually came to walk her down the aisle." Loke seemed chuffed at the thought and placed Layla down, taking his glasses from the blonde quickly and stowing them in his pocket, "Now run along you two. You need to get in line."
"Oh. He's right. The music started. Come on. Hurry, hurry." Mira herded the children from the room quickly, passing a quick glance over the room before leaving the mage and her spirit alone.
"Mavis Lucy… You look stunning…" Loke marvelled at his master, admiring the way the light reflected off the crystal diadem decorated with stars that glistened like those in the night sky, a gift from the Celestial Spirit King himself at the birth of the twins, "Like a true Queen of the Stars."
Lucy blushed at the title, gingerly touching the gem on her head, "I already told you, I can't be-"
"But you are. End of discussion. Now. We have somewhere very important to be and some very important people that can't be left waiting… I think they've been holding their breath long enough." Loke whisked her around in a twirl, taking in the way the curls in her hair bounced on the way the fabric of the dress danced around her, "Truly a Queen. And wife to be."
"Alright you pesky lion. Let's get going." With a giggle Lucy rearranged herself, straightening her hair and dress in a flurry before she was dragged from the room, the moonlight lightning their way through the hallway.
The Guild Hall had been redone for the evening, with lacrima light strung up everywhere likes stars and a trail of flowers and candles to lead outside. Even the training field had been redone and had remained out of bounds just for the evening.
"Loke… I can't believe how lucky I am… After everything…" Lucy whispered, afraid that if she spoke to loudly that the illusion would be broken and it would all slip through her fingers.
"You deserve everything Princess. Nothing but the best for you. Now. Put a smile on. We're going."
The mark on her neck tingled, a surge or reassurance coursing through her and she laughed when she felt a small kick against her stomach, resting her bouquet over the slight bump, "I think the baby likes feeling daddy through the link."
"It feels what you feel Lucy. It's contagious." Loke's smile was soft and his eyes were filled with pride as he looked at the young woman.
The music shifted and the pair were ushered to the doorway, the crowd outside standing to gaze upon the bride, but Lucy only had eyes for the man waiting for her. With tears in her eyes she walked towards her mate, the Spirit King waiting behind Laxus, the Kings grin already in place.
People from all over the continent had attended, even the Queen had graced their wedding with her presence, the green haired monarch in place in front of the Spirit King, ready to bind them together. Butterflies took over then and Lucy had to look at her loyal lion to calm herself, her heart beating a mile a minutes.
It was only when she was handed over to Laxus that everything seemed to pause and when he smiled at her, every worry and concern she had over the evening, all the tireless nights of planning and sorting, seemed so worth it she couldn't contain her glee.
"You look so stunning Lucy." The endearment in his voice had a tear fall from her eyes and he gingerly wiped it away before leading her to kneel before their Monarch and the Celestial Spirit King.
"Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to our celebration and union of Laxus and Lucy, both powerful mages in their own right, and yet stronger still together." The Queen lifted her eyes from the couple before her and turned towards the King who glittered briefly before speaking.
"It is by the great stars above that we view and respect this union. We welcome Laxus into the stars just as we have welcome our Queen Lucy into the stars. Tonight, we bind them to the Celestial realm just as we bind them by the laws of Earthland." Power swelled at the alter, a warmth settling in all those witness.
"By our powers, by the laws of fate and by the rules set in place by our laws, we bind you. Lucy… Laxus…" Queen Hisue announced, her voice resonating, " I hereby dub you Laxus and Lucy Dreyar, lawfully wedded in the eyes of Fiore and all of Earthland."
A cheer rang loud and true through the area around the guild, those of the town not involved in the wedding watching from afar.
"By the great stars, the eighty eight constellations, we bind you to us, for this life, and all that follow."
A gentle tingling took over the pair and they rose, the diadem on Lucy's brow glowing a soft silver.
"To make their union official, we present them with rings, a physical representation of their love for each other."
Yuri raced up then, his face pale and hands shaking as he handed the queen the pillow.
"Laxus." Hisue passed the ring to him, "Lucy." The blonde took the silver ring with care, turning to her mate and husband to be with reverence. Gingerly, the pair slid the fingers into place, holding on tight to each other.
"One final act must be completed before we conclude the ceremony…" The Celestial Spirit King shimmered, shrinking rapidly before he stood roughly a foot taller than Laxus, in his hands a glowing crown, "It happens rarely. So rarely that the last time a King of the Stars was crowned I still had my beloved Queen serving the realm beside me…"
A silence passed, a quiet moment of solemn remembrance for the king and of understanding from all those to witness his speech.
"Do you, Laxus Dreyar, agree to uphold the rights and protection of those both of the Spirit Realm and of Earthland? Do serve alongside your wife and face all trials together? Do you swear upon this life and all others that once the time comes, you will take your place to guard the Spirit Realm?"
Laxus took a deep breath, gazing at his grandfather, who blubbered joyous tears, and then at his mate and wife. His gaze hardened, and despite having once craved power as a sign of strength, he looked to this position as a way to do good and protect those he cared most about, "You bet your ass I swear."
A deep laugh echoed loud and true and the Spirit King lower the crown onto Laxus's head, the shimmering gold crystal a twin to Lucy's own.
"Then as husband and wife, as mates, you shall one day rule the Spirit Realm."
There was a tense silence before the newly married couple turned to each other and grinned, the silence broken by their daughter, the young Layla already trying to pull at the Celestial King's moustache.
"Does this mean I'm a princess?"

And there you have it. I really tossed up how I wanted this to play out and of course, one plot bunny led to another. There is a chance that I'll pop a more series story into the MFH universe. Taking place between the mating and the wedding. But that for the future. I have The First Sins to finish up and I have another story already started as a one-shot that I plan to extent.
I do have news though. I've begun studying this year to be a Vet Nurse, so I'm super excited. I'll be juggling my health, my studies and my fanfictions as best as I can, so I hope you tune in to my other stories as well!
A massive, massive shout out to those that reviewed the last chapter, as you all know, this was the first time I tried a fic like this and I'm so proud with how well received it was:
