Prompt by dailyau - "My friend bet me 20 bucks that I wouldn't walk up to a random underclassman and ask them to senior prom and I'm about to be 20 dollars richer and, no, that doesn't invalidate the question, you're actually really cute"AU

Today was a weird day for Will.

It started off normally, as any other day would. Alarm goes off, he brushed his teeth, eats some cereal and fruit (because no matter what anyone else says, staying healthy is important!), and then rushed off to school.

Walking to his locker, he passed a giggling group of people, and that's when his day started to get weird.

One may think a group of giggling humans is the norm, especially in high school. However, this group never giggled. It just didn't happen! Ever! But, because people are allowed to giggle, he continued down the halls, effectively shoving the giggling group to the back of his mind.

He went to his first class, English, where the teacher droned on and on. Nothing new there.

It was the class after lunch where things really got wonky.

The bell had rung and Will had just stepped out of his Chemistry class when the senior, Nico di Angelo ran up to him. Nico was someone will had always admired, and not just because of his looks.

Nico has never cared what others thought of him, and lived his life with total confidence. He also made an effort to stay away from the people he didn't like, probably just because he didn't want to waste his time dealing with them. Now, Nico didn't hold any grudges against Will as far as he knew, but they ran in very different circles.

Nico was a senior, Will was a junior. Nico wore all black, Will had an appreciation for bright colours (not that he didn't like black, but he much prefered a happy colour to reflect his mood). Nico was a rebel, Will liked to play it safe.

They had never interacted before, so why should they now?

As Will left his class, Nico yelled his name. Will turned around only to see the older boy standing in front of his, smirking and looking Will up and down. Nico said, "So listen. My friend bet me 20 bucks that I wouldn't walk up to a random underclassman and ask them to senior prom and I'm about to be 20 dollars richer and, no, that doesn't invalidate the question, you're actually really cute."

Will blinked for a second, stunned, before asking, "you think I'm cute?" Nico laughed, throwing his head back. "That's what you got from this? Really?" Will stared at him expectantly. "Of course I think you're cute! So what do you say? Will, will you go to prom with me?"

Will had never been much of a risk taker, but even he wasn't stupid enough to turn down a prom invite from his crush. "Sure, why not?", he replied, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible while trying to calm down the flying monkeys in his stomach.

"Awesome!" Nico exclaimed. "I'll see you soon then" and with that, he walked off.

Little did Will know that Nico was just as nervous and excited, glad that he finally asked his crush out, even if he had to make up a pathetic excuse as to why he did it, instead of just admitting his feelings.
