Chapter 69- Into the Death Star and Celebration

A/N: Well, my friends the end is in sight! This is the last chapter. And for those who wanted Vader to live, I hate to disappoint, but this story does follow the movie and Anakin does die and for those who are wondering if Ben and Rey come into the next story about Lena, Talon, and Cora, again I am sorry to disappoint, but it follows the "Legends" story line as it picks up where "The Truce at Bakura" starts. But we have this chapter before this story can be completed and thanks to everyone who have stuck with it since April of 2017.

"I'm going in," Wedge said over the comm as they twisted around spires and pulleys that were in front of the chasm that entered into the Death Star.

Nien exclaimed over something as they approached the opening. "Here goes nothing, Princess," Lando said to Cora as she gripped the controls in the co-pilot's seat and they followed Wedge and other pilots into the infrastructure.

"Now lock onto the strongest power source," Cora said, keeping her eyes straight ahead as she stretched out with the Force to pinpoint the power grids.

"She's right. It should be the power generator," Lando said to the pilots in front of them as he turned the ship to avoid hitting the walls.

"Form up. Stay alert. We could run out of space real fast," Wedge warned, his words punctuated by explosions behind them.

The sound of an explosion came a little too close to Cora's hearing. "Split up and head back to the surface. And see if you can get a few of those TIE fighters to follow you," Cora said.

"Copy, Master Jedi," one of the Y-wing fighters said. Every person in the Alliance called Cora "Master Jedi" along with her father and sister as she, her father, Luke, and Lena were the only Jedi Knights in the Rebellion.

Lando ducked at a small area and a piece of antenna came off the top of the ship. "That was too close," Lando said, with ruffled relief as they went down a narrow valley to a large room at the end of it.

Lena led the way down a corridor and Luke and Talon carried Anakin between them, but with the heavy armor, Anakin was way too heavy and Luke and Talon dropped him in front of the shuttle that had brought them to the Death Star. Talon and Luke pulled Vader up and they faced him, Lena wrapping her arm around his shoulders. "Luke, Talon, Help me take this mask off," Anakin said with a defeated sadness.

"But, Father, you'll die," Lena said. Anakin reached up weakly with his hand and stroked her face.

"Nothing can stop that now, daughter. Just for once let me look on the both of you with my own eyes," Anakin said. Luke looked at Lena and Talon and they all nodded. Lena held her father's shoulders and Luke took off the back of the helmet and Talon removed the faceplate to reveal a man with pasty-white skin, bags under dark-blue eyes, that looked much like Luke's and Lena's and what looked like burn marks on the back of his bald scalp. A weak smile crossed Anakin's face as he looked at first Luke, and then Lena.

Lena smiled and kissed his cheek. "Now, go, my son, daughter. Leave me," Anakin said, his voice slightly scratchy from mot being used.

"No. You're coming with us. I'll not leave you here. I've got to save you," Luke said, the desperation Lena was feeling in his voice.

"You and your sister already have, Luke. Lena, you and your mother, you both were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister you were right. And, Talon, watch over my children like you've always done," Anakin said, a weak smile crossing his lips as he fell back.

"Father, we won't leave you," Luke said as Anakin breathed his last. Luke looked at Lena and tears streamed down their cheeks. Talon went to Lena and held her tightly as she cried into his chest.

The valley ended very quickly to reveal a large structure charged with electricity. "There it is," Cora said.

"All right, Wedge, go for the power regulator on the north tower," Lando said as he pressed a button over his head.

"Copy, Gold Leader. I'm already on my way out," Wedge said as he fired on the tower and flew out. Cora reached out with the Force as she and Lando opened fire and the shield collapsed in a ball of flame. Lando turned the ship back to the entrance in a race to beat the flames.

Inside the shuttle Lena, Luke, and Talon took off as flames entered the hangar. Lena watched, both her hands on Luke's and Talon's shoulders. Lena looked back at the still form of her father. Talon had said that the Jedi way was to burn Anakin Skywalker's remains and he would help her and Luke to do so. Luke and Talon pulled out as flames engulfed the spot where they had been. Luke breathed a huge sigh of relief as they joined the Rebel fleet who waited for the Death Star to completely blow up.

Lando was going as fast as he could, but Cora's heart nearly stopped as the flames almost engulfed them. Lando gave a cheer as the ship left the Death Star and Nien chattered excitedly. Cora pulled the ship so they could see and the Death Star exploded in one huge fireball.

On the Sanctuary Moon, Han and Leia looked up as the Death Star exploded. The Ewoks started to cheer. "They did it!" Threepio said exultantly as Han wrapped Leia's injured arm amidst the celebrations.

Leia felt surge of relief through the Force and she knew it came from either Luke or Lena and that Darth Vader was gone as well as Palpatine. "I'm sure Luke, Lena, and the prince wasn't on that thing when it blew," Han said, taking his eyes from the Death Star to look at her.

"They weren't. I can feel it," Leia said, shaking her head.

"You love Luke. Don't you?" Han asked. Leia turned and Han gave her a smile.

"Yes," Leia said, wondering what Han was trying to say.

"All right. I understand. Fine. When he comes back, I won't get in the way," Han said, for the first time in his life being sacrificing.

"It's not like that at all. Luke and Lena are my brother and sister," Leia said, leaning forward and touching Han's shoulder. Han looked down and tried to ruminate over what she had just said. Leia put her hand on his cheek and kissed him tenderly. Han pulled back as what she had just said, clicked in his mind. Han smiled and kissed her again. Wicket thumped Han on the shoulder and Leia and Han stroked the Ewok's head as Ewok trumpeters blasted their victory.

Lena watched as Talon and Luke built the funeral pyre. Tears rolled down her cheeks as Luke set the pyre on fire and the sounds of Ewoks cheering filled the night. "Come along, children. Your sisters and our friends are wondering where we probably are," Talon said, gripping both Luke and Lena's hands and they made their way back to the Ewok village.

A full party was underway when they arrived and Leia and Cora all but ran to them, hugging the three of them. Han came up and hugged Luke and Lena, followed by Lando and more than half of the Rebel Alliance. Lena and Luke broke away from the party as two figures looked on. Obi-Wan and Yoda was at the edge of the village watching, with happy smiles and Lena felt herself smile as a third figure joined them. It was Anakin Skywalker! Or it was how Anakin had looked before he fell to the dark side. Lena felt a gentle hand touch her shoulder and she and Luke turned to look at Leia. Leia smiled and wrapped her arms around their waists. Lena looked back at the three Jedi, who were smiling before going back to the party. Lena felt tired from the battle and near electrocution and the battle cleaning up the effects of the Empire was far from over, but this night was a start.

The End (I should start the sequel) very quickly as I have "The Truce at Bakura" in my house.)
