Sympathy for the Devil

Disclaimer: I don't own PJO, Rocket Man by Elton John, and Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel

Billions of years ago

Most creatures would think Hell is nothing but fire and brimstone, but most would be surprised it isn't at all that well mostly. Instead ash fell from the dark clouds above. Lightning would flicker through them. The land was uneven with some parts always shifting and never the same layout with wild hell beasts roaming the harsh land. Spots filled with blackened trees and pits of black fire that flowed like water. There were buildings created to house the fallen angels and elite demons when not roaming the worlds in the galaxy. But a large gothic castle overlooked it all. The castle was surrounded by a beautiful garden with roses ranging from white to black and trees with all sorts of fruit that looked as if it came from Heaven itself. A pathway led from the front gate to the large hell forged doors that was the entryway to the ginormous castle.

The area felt awfully peaceful considering it was Hell, but not everything was peaceful. On the far side of the castle overlooking the Lake of Fire stood two figures on the grand balcony. One was a woman that stood tall with warrior physic and clothing made from leather that was attached to her torso with leather straps, a leather warrior skirt that showed much of her legs, and sandals with straps that went almost to her knees. Her arms were crossed in frustration of the man that was in front of her which did not look well on her beautiful face that looked to be sculpted from God himself. In front of her stood a man with nothing covering his chest showing off all his scars from his training and battles. They littered his body. That was natural though, especially from a warrior like himself, though the unusual part was the black markings that were located on his back. From shoulder to shoulder was a set of wings that was depicted in the tattoo. The man's arms were tense while holding onto the railing like he was deep in thought.

When the man finally turned to the woman his blood red eyes could be seen as well as his pronounced canines and the unnatural grey coloring of his skin. His jaw was tensed but defined with wild black hair going in all directions. His defined muscles could be seen as well as more scars that with one long one going from his collarbone to his hip in a jagged line.

"You can not be serious with this? You will die!" The woman with short dark hair exclaimed. "You might as well go against God himself."

"Don't overreact, Kali." The man said frustrated and tired of the bickering.

"Overreact?" The now known Kali let a puff of air out. "He has slain more demons than any other angel there is. He is one of the best warriors there has been. He is the General of Gods army, Perseus!" The woman got in Perseus face allowing him a better view of her face. Her eyes were monochrome sporting a dark red eye on the right and gold one on the left. There was a scar coming from the right side of her face going over her nose and down her to her jaw on the left side. Anger rolled off of her in waves.

"You forget my friend." Perseus smirked and brushed her strong jaw with his thumb. "I'm an angel." To prove his point two very large dark wings sprouted from his back.

LINE BREAK

December 13, 2006

Perseus POV

"Now I suggest we leave before we get stopped by the police." I could hear the sirens of at least five squad cars not even a mile out with my advanced hearing.

"How can we trust you?" The boy with an orange shirt, black windswept hair, and ocean blue eyes asked raising his sword.

"Didn't I just save your ass?" That is when I saw roughly 8 spartoi enter the museum. "And they don't look like they want to chat."

"Now is not a time to bicker, boy." Zoe shot a look at the boy and dismissed him. "Hurry we must leave."

They ran towards the back. With the museum empty of life and just the spartoi closing in I had a plan that would slow everyone down from chasing us.

"Patitur inimicos meos sentire virtutem meam, quod influit per me!" I shouted in latin. The building started to shake from the power in my voice and cracks started to splinter the building. Slowly it all started to come down on top of us. I smiled at the destruction around me as I felt my body being sucked through the void to catch up to the demigods.

LINE BREAK

Sensing the group nearby, I was able to travel through the realm of purgatory to catch up. When I arrived I noticed the boy in orange talking to a homeless man by a barrel fire while the others were chatting by passed events. I went that direction when I felt power rolling of the homeless man, the power of a god. Though usually weaker than the first generation and early second generation of angels, gods still could put up a good fight especially when there is more than one.

I made eye contact with the man and his jaw dropped. Those bright blue eyes, the golden colored hair though disguised to be dirty, and those pearly white teeth gave away everything about that disguise. Only this god could act like a homeless man and still have a perfect dental structure because he was too self absorbed to not. Apollo the false sun god. The god that I helped when he needed it the most. The god that I thought I could trust. The god that betrayed me.

"Apollo!" I moved faster than anyone else. He didn't have time to dodge my fist. When I made contact with his face his body when flying back. He collided with a storage container on the train that was behind him.

"Percy...please don't!" The hurt and pain was evident in his voice.

"I should kill you!" I stalked closer towards the false god when I heard the unsheathing of a sword behind me.

"I don't know who exactly you are but dude totally not cool." The blue eyed kid told me. I turned towards him and he had his bronze xiphos pointing towards me. Looking around everyone besides Zoe and the satyr was pointing a weapon at me.

"If you are going to raise a weapon at me son of Poseidon, you better be able to use it." I told him calmly as I could watch his facial expression of shock when announcing that I knew who his father was.. "Because if not I will split you in half with it. Same for you, daughter of Zeus." I knew better to not threaten the huntress demigod.

"Percy dude calm down." Apollo was now standing. The golden ichor slowly flowing out of his nose and the golden bruise he was sporting. Most likely knowing if he healed himself I would break his nose again.

"If you call me that name one more time Apollo, I will make your brother deliver your body parts to your precious little council." I turned to the god knowing the children were no threat to me. "I am trying to help these demigods find your sister. So I suggest you leave."

"That was what I was here for as well. My father isn't doing anything about it so I decided I would do something." His eyes were avoiding mine. Though he may be wider in the shoulders I still had a height advantage and eons of training under my belt and I knew that I would follow through with my threats.

"No surprise there." I heard Zoe give a command to the others to lower their weapons but the blue eyed boy still had his raised. I felt sorry for him knowing the ever so dominant Zoe will break him if necessary.

"This is why I was telling them to get on the train. It is heading west towards New Mexico." Apollo looked like a kicked puppy with worry over his face. "I suggest you all leave as soon as possible. The longer I am here the more likely Father will sense me interfering in the quest."

"Go. Get some rest." I heard Zoe start to command the others. "Boy, put that weapon down before thou gets hurt." I heard what was almost a sound of rebellion before the daughter of Zeus told him to and all questers went aboard. I went to follow.

"Please Perc-" I shot Apollo a look as he nearly slipped and his hand on my wrist. "Perseus. Please help them get my sister. I know how much she means to you." I sighed both out of frustration from the god and the situation.

"That is what I intend to do Apollo. If you will unhand me."

"I am also sorry about all those years ago. I was a young, jealous god." He let go of my hand and bowed his head. "I thought you preferred my sister over me and-"

"Don't give me excuses Apollo. I trusted you and looked at what happened." I cut him off wishing not to go down those old memories again. "If you would have thought for one second you would have known what really was going on. Your sister was the only one to stick by my side and showed she trusted me fully."

"I know and I-" I put my hand around his throat silencing him.

"I am warning you this one time. If I ever see you again I will destroy everything about you. I will break you down until you are nothing. There will be no way you can come back." I let go of his throat. "Stay out of my way Apollo. Whatever we were in the past will stay there. You broke me and if you get in my way I will break you. Don't worry about your sister. I will find her no matter the odds." With that I walked away and boarded the train without a second thought.

The cars of the train housed actual cars of varying types. Mainly luxury cars, go figure. I found myself alone in a black 1969 Shelby gt500 listening to the music.

"She packed my bags last night pre-flight"

"Zero hour nine AM"

"And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then"

"I miss the earth so much I miss my wife"

I was lost in thought. Thinking too much of my old life and how the earth has changed so much over the billions of years it has been here. I thought about the way I adapted to survive her. How it was hard even for an angel to. I didn't even notice the passenger door open and someone get in.

"Most think I do not enjoy all males." The voice brought me out of my train of thought. "Though Elton John was always one of my favorite musicians. He was a master of the piano."

"I am surprised that you listen to music to be completely honest with you." I said to the tiara wearing girl. I turned the music to a low hum

"Ha I guess not seeing each other in hundreds of years has that effect." Zoe wasn't one to be relaxing unless she was at camp with your mistress or alone.

"You know Artemis told me you might have forgotten about me after a nasty injury." I turned to the tan girl. "Though I guess miracles happen."

"It was a nasty injury. Wish I could forget that night. The screams of the young huntresses still haunt me." She looked me dead in the eyes with her dark orbs. "But how could I forget about the man who saved me."

"Most tend to forget about me." I turned back looking towards the cars in front of us.

"Not I nor my mistress will." Zoe kept quiet after that, turning away from me.

A few minutes went by. We just sat in the car listening to the pianist play his song. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Zoe take her tiara off and admire it.

"My time is coming to an end, old friend." The proud huntress had a single tear slide off her cheek and hit the tiara.

"Why do you say that?" I turned serious knowing Zoe would not just say that.

"The prophecy read:

The bane of Olympus shows the trail,

Campers and Hunters combined prevail,

The Titan's curse must one withstand,

And one shall perish by a parent's hand

I know who will be waiting for us and what is going to happen. I know the last line is about me." She turned to me with tears in her eyes. "I don't think I am ready to die yet, Percy."

"I won-"

"But I know if not me another will take my place. I can not let another child take my place. Even if it is that sea brat." I pulled her into a tight hug. She was tense at first, hell even I barely show affection like this anymore so it was awkward for me as well. Slowly she returned the hug.

"I won't let you die Zoe. If I have to drag you from the depths of Tartarus or even Hell I will. You are one of my oldests friends. I have told you so much and there is more to tell." I put her at arm's length to look in her eyes. "No matter what happens I will protect you. Time to rest now we will speak in the morning."

"But-"

"Sleep." before she could protest I put her to sleep whilst covering her eyes. Gently I laid her down in the leather seat. I took my jacket off and put it on top of her. I turned my head and looked out towards my window and looked out the open roof. The stars shined bright over the grassland. "Even if I don't have my wings." I muttered to myself letting sleep overcome me.

"Hello darkness, my old friend"

"I've come to talk with you again"

"Because a vision softly creeping"

"Left its seeds while I was sleeping"

"And the vision that was planted in my brain"

"Still remains"
