An Oasis of LoVe

Chapter 11: Beginnings

Veronica

I found it hard to believe that I was able to get into a very simple and effective routine with Logan and Dick helping me out with Aurora. There have been moments here and there when I see the old Dick emerge and make me question why I allowed him to be a part of my daughter's life, but then there are the big moments when surprises me. I have been hot an cold with him for the last week. It seemed everything he did would get on my nerves. I wasn't sure why I was letting things rub me the wrong way, but they were. I was currently picking up all of Logan's and his surf stuff that they had just tossed in the doorway of the back door. Of course, both said guys were gone as well leaving me to pick up.

"Hello," I snapped irritated as I answered my cell before it could wake Aurora who has been just as fussy as her mom. I tossed Logan's and Dick's wet clothes in the washer as I turned it on and exited the laundry room.

"Is everything alright?" my dad questioned as I wiped some loose strands of my hair out of my face.

"Yes," I muttered sitting down on the couch as I picked up my laptop to look over some pictures, I had taken to see which if any I wanted for my latest photography assignment.

"Veronica," he said a little more sternly than he usually speaks to me.

"Dad, it's nothing. I have just been out of whack lately," I said resignedly flicking through pictures of Logan and Aurora.

"Have you spoken with Logan about this?" he questions softly. I knew he was serious because he wasn't the biggest fan of Logan's.

"No, I don't want to talk about it. Is everything alright with you?" I countered since he was the one who had called me to begin with.

"Oh, um," he stuttered.

"Dad," I replied trying to keep my calm.

"It's just I thought you should know I have begun the process of divorcing your mom again. I felt I should let you know before things got out of hand, like last time," he said softly as I knew what he was referring to. He had begun the process once before when he had decided it had been long enough waiting for her to come back. Of course, he did hide his relationship with Ms. James the school guidance counselor and really began the paperwork when he started dating Alicia.

"I see," I said as I landed on a photo of myself and Logan right after Aurora had been born. I could see the love in Logan's eyes as he looked at me. I couldn't remember who had taken this photo, but I loved it. I was so thankful we had found each other again and could work on us.

"Is that all you have to say? Usually you would have more to comment about," he remarked as I just shook my head.

"Dad, I would hope you planned to take the next step with Alicia at some point. I mean she is having your baby soon and it would look really horrible if you didn't get a divorce," I retorted as I heard him chuckle on the other end.

"Veronica, you do know that you have people who care about you," he begins as the doorbell rings.

"Dad hold that thought. I've got to get the door," I say as I get up and move toward the door. I open the door only to find the one person who I felt the least supportive of currently. "Dad, I'll call you back," I snap as I end the call and look at Trina.

"I had heard Logan got back with you," she said as she pushed her way into the house.

"Why are you here?" I snapped not too happy at all about her pushing me out of the way.

"Oh, you know to see my bother and to see if he really knocked you up," she replied as she headed toward the living room where Aurora was currently sleeping in her playpen.

"I don't care what you have heard or haven't heard, but right now isn't the time for you to come bashing into his life or ours," I retorted as she stood in front of Aurora. I don't know what kicked into me but I moved past her stopping her from getting any closer to my little girl.

"Scared Logan might find out she's not his," she said as she looked me up and down.

"No, I don't want you touching her. Logan could have used your help over the last year and where were you at," I snapped moving closer to her to make her back up.

"I do have a life. I am not my brother's keeper. I mean clearly he has you for that," she retorted as I felt hot anger burning inside of me. I thought at one time Trina was a decent person, but she was never there for Logan when he truly needed her. She would only be somewhere if she could profit from it.

"That being said, again I ask you, why are you here?" I questioned once more.

"I wanted to talk with my brother and see if he would do something for me," she said as I watched her carefully.

"You need money, don't you," I snapped as she looked up from the floor right at me with the tiniest hint of a smirk on her lips.

"If you must know I have been cut off from my inheritance, and need Logan to release some funds for me," she snapped as she plopped down on the sofa across from where I was standing. All I wanted to do now was to toss her out, but she was Logan's sister and he might want to help her.

"Like I have already stated Logan isn't here and I don't know when he might be back. Why don't you leave the number of where you're staying and I have Logan get in contact with you there," I say without looking from the door hoping Logan would just walk in and handle her.

"Awe, that's not going to work for me. I think I'll just stay here until my dear brother gets home. I wouldn't want you to say anything that might persuade him from helping me," she snapped with a flick of her hand in a dismissive sort of way.

I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Logan's number after three rings it went to his voicemail, "The best thing to hold onto in life is each other –Audrey Hepburn," 'Logan this is Veronica your sister decided to just show up, get home asap," I say quickly as I hang up the phone.

"It's good to know my brother got taken by you. I felt certain he'd end up with someone like Madison or some other Trollip," Trina smirks as she makes her comment. I try not to let it get to me, but the mentioning of Madison brings back memories of why Logan and I broke up to begin with. I push hard at those thoughts of wanting to run because I knew Logan would never forgive me if I ran again.

"Suit yourself, to wait for him, but I don't have to sit here with you," I quickly replied as I moved toward Aurora and gently picked her up.

"Why don't you leave her here with me? I'd love to get to know my niece," she said smiling as if I would ever leave my daughter with her.

"That's never going to happen. I'd rather her stay with anyone else but you," I finally say trying to keep my composure. I was moving toward the stairs when the front door opened, and Dick came into the house followed quickly by Logan. "Thank God," I snapped as he turned to look at me.

"Where is she?" he questions as I point to the living room. He is moving away from me as Dick steps forward smiling.

"Come on baby mama. Papa told me to take you out for some fresh air," Dick says as he takes Aurora from me and placing his hand on the lower part of my back to lead me toward the door.

"Fine, but I want Mama Leone's," I remark as I walk out the door with him leaving Logan with Trina.
