Well hey, look at that, finally a new chapter going up here. Sorry for the wait I just got a bit stuck but here it is!
Ch.8
The three of them soon were at the clock tower. Axel had already bought the ice cream for everyone and they went to take their seats. Axel handed out one to Roxas who took it slowly like before.
Right away Axel bit into his ice cream, smiling widely. "Hmm still as good as ever."
Roxas ended up nodding. "It tastes… familiar… salty but sweet…"
"Well of course it does, you ate it last time we brought you up here," Axel replied.
"Really? I don't remember…"
"What? Seriously? You don't remember about a week ago when we brought you here?"
"No… I can't."
"But are you-"
"Axel," Saix interrupted. "If he doesn't remember, then he doesn't. It may be related to not having memories at the start, so it would be wise to not press him on the matter."
"Ah… um… okay then… Sorry Roxas," Axel replied before sighing lightly.
"It's okay."
"Well uh… let's see what we could talk about. You still like the ice cream, right?"
"Yeah." Roxas took another bite right after his response.
"Okay, yeah…" Axel thought he would be able to get a bit more out of Roxas. He had seemed more talkative before with his comment after the mission, but now it was back to being quiet. He hummed to himself, trying to think what else there could be to say when he remembered something else.
"Oh! So Saix, what was it you were going to tell me earlier? You know before the mission and all about that other-"
"Later."
"What? But I thought you said you were going to tell me at the clock tower."
"It's a conversation just for the two of us, so we will need to talk about it later."
Axel sighed again. It seemed like he couldn't get a conversation to go any which way. It was a complete change from how it had been just before, but Axel wasn't ready to give up just yet. "Anyways! This was a pretty exciting day. Roxas really showed his stuff, didn't he?"
"It was just a simple mission," Saix replied. "There will be more that he will have to do before we can really say anything."
"Hey, come on have some confidence in the guy." Axel turned his head, looking over at Roxas. "You know you can do it, right Roxas?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"You guess? Nah, you can! I believe in you at least. And I know Saix does too even if he doesn't admit it."
"That's what you say," Saix replied softly.
"Aw come on, I know you wanna support Roxas. We gotta cheer him on." Axel grinned as he looked between the two guys. "We're the youngest in the Organization, we gotta stick together and cheer each other on in what we do."
Much to Axel's surprise, Saix actually nodded. "You are right about that. It's just the start, but I am sure there is still much to learn."
Axel knocked on Saix's door later that night. He waited for a moment before he heard Saix give him the clear to come in. After he closed the door behind him he spoke up as he approached Saix who sat over at his desk. "So, can we finally talk about stuff?"
Saix nodded before turning around to face Axel. "It still isn't much, but I feel it is something to go off of. First is its name… Castle Oblivion."
"Castle Oblivion? Sheesh, who's naming this stuff anyways?"
"I wouldn't know, but I think the name may have something to do with the building itself, but I have not gotten that far yet. The other part of it is just where this place is."
"And? You going to keep me in suspense here?"
"It is a place that is basically 'in between' everything else."
"What? In between? How does that make any sense? The more you are finding out the more I am left confused." Axel let out a long sigh before going to flop on top of Saix's bed. "Just how much more crazy stuff is out there in other worlds?"
"I wouldn't know. I still need to try to look more into it, but wherever this castle is, it is hard to reach and is unlike any other world. It is unique and has some purpose that the Organization wants to use. I'll try to find out what I can, but it's hard to sneak around for things like this."
"But we've always been good at sneaking around," Axel replied with a soft chuckle. "Shouldn't be too hard for you, right?"
Saix chuckled back. "That was the old days, it is harder now with our circumstances. I doubt the other members really want me prying too much into things that are not for my eyes to see."
"But you are still going to look right?"
"Of course," Saix replied, giving Axel a small smile. "You know I am not one to give up easily. Now, it is late and we may have another mission tomorrow. Best to get some sleep."
"Right, night Isa," Axel said before jumping off the bed and heading toward the door.
"Goodnight, Lea."
Axel smiled to himself as he left the room and headed down the hall. He still couldn't quite understand what was going on with Saix. There were times where he seemed colder and harsher towards him, but then he acted like they usually would during other times. No matter how he looked at it, he could never really put his finger on any sole reasoning.
He only could figure that one part of it had to be with them being Nobodies, but other than that he still had no idea. Thinking too hard on it only made him even more tired so he quickly headed off to bed as soon as he got back to his room.
When the next day came Axel got ready as he always did and eventually headed out to the Grey Room. Saix was already waiting at one of the couches, holding a paper in his hands seeming to be lost in reading it.
"Hey, is that your mission for today?" Axel asked once he was closer.
"Yes, and it is for the both of us."
"Aw yes, mission together. But oh, what about Roxas?"
Saix hummed, his expression looking more distant than just seconds before. "I wouldn't know. I suppose he must have some other mission of his own today."
Axel hummed. "Oh well, guess we can try and find him later then. What's our mission?"
"It is just some basic recon in some world called Halloween Town."
"Well that is not the weirdest name we've heard at least. Still pretty strange though."
"Doesn't matter the name. They want us to check around the area and make sure there is nothing major happening like huge hordes of Heartless. Let's get to it," Saix said before he stood up.
"All right, but let's hurry. I wanna get back and have some more ice cream after we finish."
Saix smiled as he shook his head lightly. "Of course you do."
The two set out after that to the world of Halloween Town. The area they entered was in some kind of darkened down, but there didn't seem to be any people nearby. They knew to play it safe though and stick to the shadows as they investigated.
Along their walk Axel stopped and looked off to the distance. He blinked a few times before catching up with Saix. "Hey, uh I think I may have seen something. Over that way."
"Then let's see if we have any lead," Saix replied.
Walking in the direction that Axel had pointed, they started to walk farther away from the town. But they still kept on looking and soon enough they were met with several sets of glowing eyes. Right before them several little Shadow Heartless appeared with their twitchy little anenteas.
"I guess we gotta do some fighting after all," Axel said before he summoned his weapons.
"Indeed."
They thought that it was only going to be just the basic simple Heartless. It was all that came at them at first, but soon enough stronger levels of Heartless started to show their faces and run in for attacks. From a quick glance around Axel could even see that there looked to be at least two Invisible Heartless, and those only meant trouble.
"We should just get out of here!"
"Head back to the portal! We'll just have to leave the Heartless here for a later time, they're too strong for us," Saix growled.
He turned around to try and make a clearing, but more Heartless showed up. Gritting his teeth, Saix swung his weapon harder and harder to try and make them clear out of the way. An Invisible swung its sword towards him and clashed against his claymore.
Saix breathed out as he tried to push off the Heartless from his weapon. With a quick glance he looked up to the sky and saw that the moon was already out in this world. Breathing in deeply, Saix did what he could and focused on the energy that he sensed radiating from the moon.
He still didn't fully understand why he could feel this energy from the moon, but it did enhance his own powers. He never had felt anything like it before he was a Nobody, but then again he was never actively fighting. But now that was all changed and the power… it almost felt exhilarating despite not having a heart to feel such a emotion.
Faster and faster he attacked, making each strike harder than the last. He became so in tune with what he felt from the moon that he didn't even pay attention to anything else around it. It was only him against the Heartless and nothing else could stand in his way.
But even that didn't seem to be perfect against the Heartless. An Invisible came from the side before he was able to block, striking against his side. While letting out a shout of pain he could hear Axel calling his name, but that was slowly being drowned out. Something else was calling him… something much louder that rattled his head.
"Saix!" Axel shouted as he tried to clear the Heartless around him to get closer. He knew for a fact if he still had a heart he would be panicking like crazy. This was so much… like before… just like when he had screwed up and caused them to become Nobodies in the first place.
He wasn't going to let it happen again. But just as he got near Saix, he could hear a low growl coming from him. An invisible force of energy came out of nowhere, knocking him back slightly. Axel blinked a few times while trying to stand his ground, wondering what possibly Saix was trying to do. But when he stared at his friend once more his eyes widened.
Saix was now tossing his claymore around, landing powerful blows at the Heartless all at faster speeds than he ever had before. Not only that, but there was clearly something different about him, but he moved too fast for Axel to truly watch and take note of. He only could get a good glance when Saix took the moment to pause and let out a yell of frustration before going back to his heavy swings on the Heartless.
From what Axel saw… Saix's posture was far more hunched than before… his hair a mess, and his eyes glowed. They weren't his usual aqua-marine color anymore, but now a bright glowing yellow. He grunted again while continuing his new sporadic fighting pattern, never once looking Axel's way.
In Axel's daze in trying to figure out what had happened, he did not notice the Shadow Heartless sneaking up from his side. Right away Saix whipped his head in Axel's direction and made a leap towards him.
"Ah! Watch it!" Axel yelled as Saix brought his claymore heavily down onto the Heartless, almost cutting it far too close for Axel's comfort.
Saxi gritted his teeth, revealing how sharp they had become. Now Axel backed up, totally caught off caught by the new appearance. "Whoa Saix… what's going on here?"
Saix bared his teeth at Axel before resuming swinging his claymore around almost too carelessly. It was as if he didn't care for strategy or anything balancing in his fighting. It was totally the complete opposite of what Saix normally would do.
"H-Hey Saix! Snap out of it! Just stop whatever it is you're doing!"
Saix didn't listen and continued to clear out the Heartless. It was only then did he straight his posture and turn towards Axel with his eyes still glowing. Axel gulped, wondering if Saix was even able to hear him or if something else was truly happening to him.
"Saix! Can you hear me? Whatever the heck were you doing there? What were you doing?"
Saix gave no response, he only stood and stared, but eventually the glow from his eyes faded. His usual color was seen before his eyes rolled up and he dropped to the ground. Right Axel Axel ran up to him, disregarding everything that had just happened before. He knelt next to Saix and shook him by the shoulder.
"Isa!" Axel shouted, finally reminding himself that they were off on another world. They didn't have to use their Nobody names at a time like this. "Isa! Wake up man!"
Axel dug into his pocket and pulled out a small potion. He didn't know if it was going to work or not, but he wasn't about to pass up trying it. He brought the bottle to Saix's lips, letting it trickle over them. Slowly his eyes flickered open and he reached a hand forward to take the potion for himself. He drank it quietly until he had finished, when that happened he stared at Axel and then to the area around them.
"What… What happened?"
"You're asking me? Dude did you not see what you were doing? You went all crazy ballistic on the Heartless."
Saix blinked slowly, trying to process what he was hearing. "I… I did?"
"Yes! Don't you remember anything? It was so weird you were looking like some kind of animal almost. I don't even know how to explain it."
"I can't remember. I know we were fighting Heartless… and then… everything after that is just a blur…"
Axel frowned. He wasn't too sure what was going on, but he knew that there had to be some sort of answer behind it. Reaching forward he pulled Saix to his feet. "Come on, let's get back to the castle. We're going to look into whatever this is."
"But Lea…"
"No buts. This isn't something I am going to let you hide, we gotta figure out what caused that. I mean it was freaking cool, but also a bit scary to see you like that."
Saix lowered his head as they began their walk back. "It must have been really something if I cannot even remember it."
"Like I said, we are going to get to the bottom of this. Don't worry, I'll still be there for you," Axel replied.
"Thanks, Lea."
Axel smiled. "You're welcome, Isa."
Heh so I thought to take on the beseker idea in my own way here. Hope you all enjoyed!
