Chapter Forty-Five: Epilogue

Arizona POV

"He looks so confident sitting up there." I say whispering in Callie's ear, trying not to disrupt those around us.

"Of course he does. He's a Torres." With a soft laugh, I shake my head at her reply. Her pride and confidence in our family is one of the many things I love most about my wife.

Movement up front on the stage grabs my attention forcing me to swallow a reply of my own. Adjusting the fidgety little boy in my lap, while leaning into Callie's side, we both wait to be amazed.

"Our next presenter is Calen Robbins-Torres." I can't believe he's 10-years old already. Taking his spot after setting up his powerpoint, I can't help but remember a presentation Callie gave years ago that involved her literally bouncing with nerves. He has a confidence while talking in front of people that she still struggles to find.

"Good evening, everyone. I have a really big family but that's not what make mine unique. My family is unique because my moms knew they wanted to be together forever when they were only 14-years olds. My tia Leda says that there are people who go through their whole lives without finding their soulmate so my moms are really lucky." On the screen behind him, there are side by side pictures of Callie and I, one from freshman year of high school and the other our most recent family photo. I've never taken the time to compare the past to the present and it's shocking to see all the changes yet noticing the things that haven't changed at all. After several seconds, the screen changes to another picture from our family photoshoot. "This is our family picture with me, my moms, my two little brothers and my little sister."

Glancing up at Callie, she's beaming with pride and bouncing our little girl in her lap. I have no doubt that I'm exuding the same feelings. Looking around, I take a moment to appreciate all the family her to support Calen. To Callie's right, Lee and Trevor are here with their three kids along with Colton, Addison, Mark and Carlos. Then to my left, Santiago's playing with the toddler in my lap and on the other side him are my parents, Tim and a very pregnant Aria, followed by Teddy and Owen. It's almost hard to believe that there was ever a time when Calen's family primarily consisted of my parents, my brother and myself. Bringing my focus back to the presentation, the screen shifts to a picture of Callie.

"This is my mami, Callie. She's a really cool artist and business woman. And this..." The picture flips to one of Callie, Leda and Aria. "...is mami with tia Leda and tia Aria. They are her big sisters and always take care of her. When they all hang out together, we have lots of fun dancing and talking Spanish." Next, picture is of me. "This is my mama, Arizona. Like the battleship not the state." There is a bit of laughter from the other parents as well as myself. I guess he's heard that a time or two. "Mama is photographer and she's a business woman too like mami." The image changes to one of Tim and I. "This is mama's big brother, my uncle Tim. He used to be a soldier like their dad and his dad."

Once again the screen changes and there's instant aww's with whispered compliments. "These are my little brothers and sister. The bigger boy is Santiago, he's 5-years old. The other two are Callista and Aaron. They are 3-years old and twins. We play together all the time and we get to go one family trips. I love my family especially my moms and I'm really really happy that they met and became soulmates. Thank you." As he concludes his presentation, the screen shifts one more time, displaying the full multi-generational family portrait of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins with a large image of Lucia seemingly watching over everyone. I don't think I've ever been more proud of him.

"That was so...I don't even know. I'm just so proud of him, Arizona."

"Me too, Calliope. Me too." The claps continue for a few more moments then the next student is almost ready to brag about their family. Leaning into Callie once more, kissing her cheek, I whisper into her ear. "I'm really happy we became soulmates too." Turning to face me, she drops a chaste kiss to my lips.

"Me too...Arizona Robbins-Torres meeting you at 14-years old was literally life-changing, but finding my way back to you after losing you is absolutely the best thing to happen to me next to the children you've given me...I love you."

"I love you, too. So, so much."

THE END.
