FROM AFAR
He walked into his room and poured himself a generous drink. He watched the golden liquid for a moment before taking a sip and felt it searing down his throat and warming himself from within.
How he wished that he could be with her at this moment. How he wished that he could pull her into his arms and let her cry her eyes out. How he wished that he could tell her, while stroking her silky locks, that everything would be fine and that he was there for her no matter what. But he couldn't because he had chosen to be silent when it mattered the most and now he is supposed to remain silent on that front till he breathed his last.
But that didn't stop him from punching into a pulp the man who had hurt her. How dare he hurt his beloved?! Consumed by a rage he could not stop himself from beating up the man until life left him. And it had been the same all consuming rage that made him pull the trigger on her husband moments later. He isn't worried about the consequences though. He had always been a clever man and knew how to buy his way out.
But hey! He wasn't to be blamed here. Her husband was supposed to protect her, provide her with the security that she so desperately craved. But what did that silly, spineless, excuse of a man do instead? He depended on her like the cane that he would use to assist his mobility in his advanced age.
He knew that he shouldn't have killed him though. If she ever found out then he would be as good as dead. But the taste of her soft lips from the one time when he had kissed her reminded him why the killings had been worth it. No one. Absolutely NO ONE harms his beloved and gets away with it. Not even her own husband.
One look at him told her that he is the reason that is a widow once again. She knew that she was supposed to be angry but she felt safe instead. She knew that she finally had someone who would be there for her, who loved her enough to kill for her. And it was this very thought that made her want to hug him. To touch him once to ensure that it had all been real. But the judgmental society wouldn't let her. After all, she had been trained to be a lady.
As she took another sip of her drink, she realized how wonderful it would have been if she had told him exactly how she felt about him when she still had the time instead of being afraid of him laughing at her.
