Disclaimer: I do not own Jonny Quest or related characters.
A/N *gasp* did MJ just write a Jonny Quest story without Race in it?! Yes. Yes I did. Oh, by the way, this is before Palm Key becomes the Quests' home. I imagine they moved there when Jonny was really young (like two or three). And yes, this will probably be re-written at some point.
Benton set down his pencil, leaning back in his chair he groaned as he became aware of how sore his back, shoulders, and neck were. He really needed to stop sitting hunched over his desk like that. His azure eyes flicked over to the clock hanging on the wall. Huh, it wasn't that late, perhaps he could finish this project tonight after all. He returned his attention to the blueprint he was working on, it was half complete but that would change by the end of the night.
Before he could start working again, however, he felt gentle hands on his shoulders, "It's getting late, Benton." his wife murmured.
"It's not that late." He protested. 10:00 PM was not late.
"Hmm... you won't be saying that tomorrow when you have to get up early." Rachel murmured as she leaned down to kiss his cheek.
"Get up early?" Benton frowned, searching his memory.
"Yes. Remember? We were going to head down to the beach, we have to leave early to get there by noon." She answered. Then she chuckled, "You forgot I was going to drag you out of the lab so we could spend time just the three of us, didn't you?"
"Yes, I suppose I..." He frowned suddenly, turning his head to look back at his wife, "Three?"
"Oh. I must have misspoke." Rachel murmured, but her sky blue eyes were dancing mischievously.
"You don't misspeak." Benton answered as he swiveled his chair around to face her. "Rachel, what did you mean by three?"
"Well, since I let the cat out of the bag..." Rachel sighed her eyes on the floor. She looked up, fighting to keep a grin off of her face, "Benton, I'm pregnant."
Benton stared at her blankly for a long moment as the news sunk in. "You're...?" He asked after a moment.
Giggling at his shocked face, Rachel nodded, "Yes."
She watched as his shocked face slowly morphed into one of joy as the realization finally hit him. His azure eyes lit up as his face broke into a grin. He stood, hugging her, "That's wonderful!"
He sounded far more excited than he ever had before. To think, after two years of trying, there was finally going to be a third member of their little family. It was, by far, the best news he had gotten in a long time.
