A/N: This is my very first fanfic.

She faced him across the void, amidst the ruins of the castle. Darkness swirled around them as he approached.

"Just fear me, love me, do as I say, and I will be your slave."

Sarah met his eyes.

"You have no power over me."

The clock began to slowly chime thirteen. As the echoes of the last stroke faded, his eyes gleamed and his smile became feral.

"Oh, Sarah, Sarah," he said, slowly shaking his head with a mock sigh. "You know that's not true. I'll always have power over you."

She gasped and began to back away from him. He pursued her, stalking her like a tiger, never taking his eyes from hers.

"You're mine, Sarah," he gloated. "You'll always be mine."

"No!" Sarah shouted.

Still backing away, she looked around wildly for an avenue of escape, but there was none. The darkness surrounding them was complete.

He continued his relentless advance. Her stumbling feet reached the edge of the precipice.

"You can't run from me, Sarah. You can't hide. I will find you. I will always find you."

Sarah's foot slipped, and then she was falling into space – falling, falling.

His words followed her, ringing in her ears, "You're mine, Sarah. I will find you."

Sarah awoke with a scream, sitting up in her bed. She was drenched with sweat, her long, dark hair sticking to her face and neck. Beside her, her husband stirred.

"What is it, Sarah? What's wrong?"

She sat there, gasping and shaking. She could not speak. He sat up and put his arm around her.

"Was it another dream?"

Sarah nodded, tears spilling down her cheeks.

"It was him," she choked out, "the Goblin King. He's going to find me. He's going to take me."

Her husband hugged her tightly.

"No, Sarah, you're safe. You're with me. He will never find you. He will never take you away from me."

Sarah drew a shuddering breath.

"But it was so real."

"It was just a dream, Sarah. He can't harm you. Go back to sleep."

Sarah lay back down and snuggled close to her husband. He wrapped his arm around her waist and drew her close to him.

"I'm here, Sarah," he breathed in her ear. "You're safe."

Sarah sighed and allowed herself to relax into his embrace.

"That's it," he said. "Go back to sleep. It was only a dream."

Sarah yawned. Her eyes fluttered closed, and her breathing slowed.

"Good night, Jareth," she whispered.

"Good night, Sarah," her husband replied, his eyes gleaming in the darkness.
