Chapter 3
They stepped into Lily's room, and pulled up chairs in front of the bed and sat down.
"Hey Lily, we have your clothes here. You're coming home with us," Sue said as she laid a hand on her uninjured arm.
Getting no response back, Reed nodded and stood up, "Why don't you get dressed Lil', and I'll go talk to the doctor about getting you released."
Lily stayed silent and Reed left. Sue stood up and opened the bag that held the red-haired girl's clothes. Lily watched as Sue pulled out clothes, and then suddenly without warning, Lily threw back the covers, grabbed the clothes from Sue's hands, and headed into the bathroom. Sue was left behind, stunned by the actions and could only sit and wait for those she loved to come back. After waiting for fifteen minutes, Reed came back with the release papers in his hands.
"Where's Lily?" He asked as he noticed the bed to be empty.
Sue pointed towards the bathroom, "She should be in there getting ready."
Reed went to the door and knocked softly, "Lily, are you-"
The door swung open before he could finish. Lily stood before him dressed in jeans and a shirt. Her red hair hung below her shoulders. She stared at him with an expression-less face.
"Are you ready?"
A minute passed without a response from her, and before Reed could sigh, she nodded. Both adults were slightly surprised that they even got that much of a response from her in the days since they arrived. Reed led the way out, and they all climbed into the cab and drove away. Lily silently watched the scenery as it passed them by. She looked at the adults when the cab stopped in front of a hotel.
"We have flights arranged for tomorrow. We all need some rest, especially Sue," Reed said.
Lily looked from Reed to Sue's stomach and paled a bit before she opened the door and got out before she slammed it. Sue jumped and let out a nervous laugh.
"Now I feel guilty for being pregnant," She said.
"Don't be. She'll get over it. We just have to give her some time," Reed said as he gave her a reassuring smile and a kiss. "Now, come on. Let's get inside so our boy and his mommy can get some rest."
Sue followed Reed out of the cab, "It just might be a girl for all you know Reed."
He laughed, "You're dreaming darling."
They reached to the other side of the cab and stood next to Lily.
"So are you," Sue said with a teasing smile as she slid her hand into his.
Lily, tired of the display of affection, walked forwards to the hotel doors. Reed and Sue looked after her.
"Guess that's our cue," Reed said.
Sue smiled and followed the red-head. They found Lily standing beside the elevator waiting for them. As soon as they reached her, Lily stabbed the 'up' button and turned her back towards them. Reed and Sue looked at each other without a word. A minute passed by and the doors opened. Lily stepped inside and the others followed. Reed pressed the number of their floor and the doors closed. The elevator moved upwards in the silence. As soon as the ride stopped and the doors opened, Reed led the way to their room. They stopped in front of a door and rather than wait for Reed to open it, Lily phased through the door and into the room. Reed paused, his hand frozen in mid-air, and looked around. He looked around the hallway, grateful that no one was in the hallway to see.
"She has got to be more careful," Reed whispered as he slid the card into the lock and opened it.
"There's not much we can do about it Reed," Sue said as she followed her husband into the room. "She is twenty after all."
"Right now age doesn't matter. We can't attract any attention to us. Especially after happened with Lily" Reed lowered his voice, "and the child."
A door slamming loudly caught their attention and Reed winced. They looked at the closed bathroom door and back at each other.
"Think she heard me?"
"I don't think she could've slammed that door any harder Reed," Sue said hotly.
Reed sighed and put a hand over his eyes, "She heard me."
