It had never happened, until now.

They had been close on numerous occasions but nothing ever happened.

When they had argued over the rowboat incident, they had been standing quite close. But it hadn't happened.

When he had spoken to her after the puppet show, they had been merely inches apart. And yet it hadn't happened.

When he had sung Edelweiss, he almost had to restrain himself from touching her. She had looked rather irresistible in that little blue dress. Undoubtedly, he had fallen for her. And the way she had looked at him, her eyes full of love and care, he was sure she had fallen for him too.

But like every time, it hadn't happened.

When she had danced the laendler with him in full view of his seven children, the kiss had almost happened.

He had almost made the move pulling her slightly closer, making her go weak in the knees. A few minutes more and maybe, she would have given in to the temptation.

But like always, it never happened.

She could see hurt in his eyes when he asked the reason for her abrupt departure from the Villa, even without saying goodbye to the Children.

The intensity with which he had been gazing at her; almost made her want to run into his arms and kiss him. But Elsa had interrupted them and like always it never happened.

Maybe there was never going to be the "it happened" moment. Because he was engaged to be married, to someone else.

Until now.

She was shocked to see him that evening, standing there looking more handsome than ever, smiling at her, his blue eyes twinkling.

The next few minutes passed in a blur as he told her that he had called off his engagement with the Baroness and that she was going back to Vienna.

It took an entire minute to make sense of what he was saying.
'You called off the engagement?'

'Well, you can't marry someone when you are in love with someone else... can you?'

Her heart began to pound as he slowly lifted her chin to meet his intense gaze. He inched closer and she closed her eyes as he captured her lips in a gentle kiss. She couldn't believe that Georg was kissing her. Maria felt Fireworks explode inside her and their hearts started to beat in a haphazard rhythm.

And that was the moment when it finally happened.
