A/N: This story is based on a very similar series of fanfics on Archive of Our Own. I don't remember the author's pen name offhand. Those stories involved Severus Snape being sorted into each Ilvermorny House. In my story, it's Harry Potter's turn (the character). We see his reaction to being sorted into each House, and there's going to be a chapter where more than one carving chooses him, and he has to choose between them, like Seraphina Picquery did. If this goes well, I might do some other Hogwarts characters, too.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling owns the rights to the books, and WB owns the rights to the films.

Harry Sorted In America

Hear Me Roar

Harry Potter stood on the Gordian Knot on the floor, and faced the magically animated carvings of the Ilvermorny beasts, as he had been instructed to do. He and the Ilvermorny students waited with tense anticipation, until the wampus carving seem to take a deep breath and roared aloud. The other three statues remained inactive.

I'm a Wampus? Harry silently thought in surprise. This was the House which emphasized the body, and while Harry was adept at some athletic feats, especially playing Quidditch, he wasn't exactly impressive physically. He was at medium height for his age, he was thin and wiry, and his hair always looked a little messy, and he wore glasses. The murmurs from the other students told him that they agreed with his sentiment.

But then he remembered that Wampus House also welcomed warriors more than anybody else. Warriors were brave, strong-willed, and determined, and Harry had always needed those qualities to face the threat of Voldemort. And he was a warrior at heart himself. He was also the leader of Dumbledore's Army which opposed Voldemort, and being an Army, it was filled with warriors who were willing to fight against the Dark Lord. Harry decided that was reason enough for him to be a Wampus.
