WHEN I WAS YOUR GIRL

AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER

I was watching a OTH video done to the Bruno Mars song "When I was Your Man" and it got me thinking "What if it was reversed?" and this was born. All characters belong to Dick Wolf and NBC. I only own the plot.

She hadn't been in Chicago for a long time. She had been too busy with her life. Okay, yes, for a while, she had been in the hospital after taking a bunch of pills, but after that, she had gone back to the life she had had. But then she had gotten the call that he was getting married and she had to see it for herself. Call her curious or whatever, but she had to see who had won his heart. What had made her so special that he would marry her? Well, she was about to find out. Okay, so her brother had told her that it'd be a bad idea for her to show up, saying that he had only told her so that she wouldn't feel blindsided when seeing the announcement in a paper or on social media, but she had to see it for herself. As she headed down the street, she looked at the address of the church she had gotten from her brother. Almost there, she thought to herself. Soon she'd be able to see for herself just what kind of girl he had chosen for himself. Not that it was any of her business, but she had to admit that she was curious. When she finally pulled up to the church, her eyes widened when she saw the amount of cars. Just how many people in the department came? she wondered. Fifty-One wasn't that big, so where had all the other cars come from? She then gave herself a mental shake and went to find a parking spot. When she finally found one, she parked, turned off the car, and then got out. I have to see him, she thought to herself. Things hadn't been the same without him. And sure her brother had said that he was happy and in love, but there was a part of her that was hoping that she could change his mind. They had been in love back then and maybe they could be again. He just had to see her, right? Licking her lips, she headed for the door and then stopped outside the door, looking through small window to see a dark-haired man in front of a pulpit, standing across from a dark-haired woman, holding her hands. They look so happy, she thought to herself. That could've been them. It was supposed to have been them. But she had ruined it all by hooking up with an ex-boyfriend two days before their wedding. When they started heading for the door, she quickly went to her car and hid herself so that she could watch them without them seeing her. Seeing him twirl his new bride around, the woman couldn't help the smile. He had always liked to dance even if he pretended not to. Then, as she watched the wedding party leave, Renee Whaley cried, remembering when she had been Kelly's girl.
