28! - Let Me Go
Several Years Ago
"Now you listen here motherfucker," The man with spiky hair grinned. "I don't know about your culture or your country all that much, but I'm pretty sure I can whip up a nicely-worded threat that'll have ya shittin' your pants in your native-tongue in no time." He mocked his victim with a small chuckle. "Well would ya look at that?" He snickered louder as a foul stench shot through his nostrils. The man quivering in his strangle-hold was sobbing and wheezing like a beaten puppy. "Guess I just made one without even knowing it." As unhealthy urine soaked through his pants onto the floor in front of the killer's bare feet, he continued to struggle and squirm in his grip. Heba was strangling a man, holding him a couple feet above the floor. He was kicking and hacking, scratching at Heba's arms to make him stop.
There was once again another dispute in the lounge, the common room. Heba was escorting Yugi so they could play or find something to keep the kid occupied until the next time they were tested on. Well, that was before some asshole decided to walk over and snatch a toy from his puny hands. Yugi wanted to cry, until the Egyptian snarled and threw a heavy punch into his face. The fellow obese patient was slung across the room from the hit alone, the toy dropping several feet away. Other prisoners backed off, making worried expressions as they knew what would come next. Soon, Heba was dragging him off the floor, and holding him up in the air while strangling him violently.
As his fatter victim was gasping for air to speak, Heba found himself getting annoyed rather quickly. With a scowl, he took one hand off of his thick throat. "Talk, pig." He called everyone in this place a pig. Hedonist pigs...All of them.
"I-I didn't...Know..your kid...was playing...with..it..." He struggled to say.
"You saw that tattered excuse for a ball in his hands, didn't you? Use your fuckin' context clues, that obviously means he was playing with it first! Don't fuck with me!" He hollered. "I should chomp your face off right here and now, wear it as a God damn Halloween mask." As if his mood switched at the drop of a coin, he started to smile with a laugh. "I mean seriously, what fat-ass middle-aged man like you plays with toys anyway?!" He yelled, his face in a cross between both demented and furious. "Oh I forgot, I was in a room full of grown ass infants who can't even walk straight without tracing all the cracks in the walls like a bunch of fuckin' retards!"
"I...It...was an...accident.."
Heba's breathing suddenly hitched. "...Accident?" He slowly repeated while dropping the man on the floor. "Did you, just say accident...?"
The man held his own throat while laying there on the floor, coughing violently. He didn't respond back, he couldn't even get his breathing patterns right.
"Accident? Accident? Accident. Accident...An accident..."
As he hissed this word over and over, Heba had already destroyed a lounge chair in seconds. He ripped out one of it's wooden legs, before stepping in front of his large victim while holding up the bludgeoning object. His eyes glowed a bright red, foam shooting through the small spaces of his perfectly sharpened teeth. Veins pulsing through his strong caramel-skinned arms, with irises and pupils shrinking faster with every second. Growling and bellowing in his throat, rumbling like a savage beast.
He swung up, and brought it back down-
"Heba?" There was something small and weak pulling at his legs. A scrawny voice, with a pitifully innocent tone erupted him from his seething rage. "A-Are you killing someone again?" The little boy with matching spiky hair asked with a whimper. He then tried wrapping his arms around one of his calves, but he could barely do so. "I don't want you to do bad things because of me."
"..!" Shit, he was here.
He couldn't do this, not in front of him. Not again. The boy was already fucked up as it is, he couldn't make it worse.
With his behavior instantly returning to normal, he cleared his throat. He dropped the chair leg down, wiping his mouth of any foam he managed to stir up in his throat. His expression softened before steadily turning around to look all the way down at the small child he looked after. He looked like he was about to cry for the thousandth time, how annoying. Still, he couldn't blame him though. Heba no longer saw red, he only saw him. His big purple eyes, his cute round cheeks with that thinning body. The kid needed more food, he'd handle that soon.
He furrowed his eyebrows, pouting with a quivering lip as his amethyst colored eyes watered. "I love you Heba, don't be bad anymore."
...
...Fuck, he couldn't murder someone after looking at a face like that.
With a big sigh, Heba got down on his knees so he could be on his level. Showing the kid respect and his upmost attention. However, he was so much taller than the child, that kneeling down didn't help much at all. He still had to pretty much turn his head all the way down just to see him. "Look, I love you too puff-face," He replied sweetly while holding up a slightly bloody hand to place it on top of his head. If they were the same complexion, someone would have thought he was his son. "But what did I tell you? I told you to stay over at one of the sofas and not to follow me. I didn't want you to see me like that. I told you to obey when I tell you to do something, you make me mad when you don't listen." He scolded him firmly, still with some gentleness in his tone.
Yugi glanced down at his own small bare feet. "You were trying to kill someone. I don't want you to kill anyone. I'm sorry."
Another sigh, he was no fun. Heba poked the kid on the nose to make him look back up. "Alright alright, no killing."
"You promise?" Yugi asked.
"Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye."
He could see the boy starting to smile at the start of the poem, he liked it when Heba did that. "Wait a minute, Heba said a lie!"
Heba smiled back. "Well I never really wanted to die." He rhymed while ruffling his hair. "But if I may and if I might, my heart is open for you tonight. Though my lips are sealed and a promise is true," He scooped the boy in his arms and embraced him closely, his body heat giving off a comfortable and familiar warmth. "I will never break my word, my word to you." He could feel Yugi giggle against him, as Heba began to trail his fingers around his torso to tickle the life out of him. He grinned at his light laughter, grateful that he was no longer willing to cry. "Heheh, you cute little shit. I know all your tickling weaknesses."
Though the man had a vulgar mouth, Yugi couldn't help but laugh anyway.
Good, Heba thought. Because their time was almost up. Soon, the doctors would be here to take them to another test. It was best to distract the boy as much as he could before it was too late. But soon, all the patients in the room began to scatter as those big double doors creaked open. Yugi was no longer smiling, just that fast.
Protectively, Heba hugged Yugi even closer to his chest.
Neither of them saw the fat man on the floor, the very man Heba was strangling, clutching a needle in his pocket.
One year and seven months after Yami's revival from his coma.
Current Time
Yugi's eyes slowly opened.
Where was he? He glanced around before sitting up, realizing it was dark but there were lots of red lights flashing in the room. Right, he was in D75, the operation room. And Yami was here. Yugi slowly looked down below him, just to see his unconscious boyfriend with his head revealed to all. The blood in his brains, the blood from his eye balls, the metal pieces sticking out of the white mushy spheres, the needles sticking into his head...
They did that.
When the others left to fight, Yugi locked up the doors and barricaded them with the medical furniture in the room. After he did that, he went to Yami's side, and that's when he had a flashback of his aniki. Heba. Why? Why so suddenly? Heba, why are you doing this? He asked, but he received no response back in his head. Heba had been silent for months, why wasn't he communicating with him? This was making him worried, why was he always seeing these dreams? Last night, that was what his nightmare was about, him. Heba. Back when he was alive with his own body.
Yugi groaned while pressing his hand to his forehead. He closed his eyes, clenching them tightly as he felt a headache rise. Jesus Christ, why was he going through this now? Now was not the time to be distracted by anything. He huffed a big sigh, leaning both his hands on his face.
And then, he felt a presence behind him.
"Yugi," His long lost friend said. "Remember when I taught you the definition of insanity?" Heba asked with a casual tone, his voice being echoed, as if he was never really there. "Insanity is doing the exact same fucking thing. Over, over and over again. Expecting something to change." He stepped closer to stand beside Yugi, watching over Yami's body below them. "Do you remember who's quote I got that from?"
With a steady gulp, Yugi clenched his fingers together without looking beside him. "...Albert Einstein-"
"Albert-mother-fucking-Einstein, that's right." He patted his shoulder and made a small exhale. "Good to see you still remember everything I taught ya." He circled around him to get on the other side of Yami's bed. "Shame you won't open your eyes to the truth."
Yugi clenched his teeth and refused to look his way. He was acting weird again, why was he doing this? "Heba, now really isn't a good time."
"Oh I know that." The apparition replied carelessly as he leaned against Yami's heart monitor. "That's why I'm doing this, so I can free you from his stupid ass enigma. Once that happens, I won't be able to hold you back anymore." He put a hand on his hip as he listened to the steady beeps of the tall machine. "You'll finally be free from me."
The hell was he on about? The hacker narrowed his eyes with a scowl. "Heba, I'm serious. Go away, now isn't the time! Yami's in danger-"
Heba tilted his head with a risen brow. "Doesn't matter, puff-face. These symptoms never happen at a 'good time'. Now pay attention, 'cause I won't be able to say this again." Odd. He said he wouldn't be able to say this again, not that he wouldn't at all. Like, something would prevent him from doing so if he really wanted to. "I'm tired."
Yugi flinched. "...What?"
"I'm tired, Yugi. And I've been exhausted for the past ten years because I've been trying to merge with you this whole time." The hallucination lowered his gaze in a semi-sorrowful manner. "I'm, I'm so damn tired. I'm always sleepy, but you never let me stay asleep. You always make me watch through your eyes, keeping us separate with me in here," He pointed to Yugi's forehead. "And you out here. But I'm sick of it, we should both be out here together."
No, no no no. He couldn't leave him, he couldn't just do this! If they were merged together, Heba would cease to be. Yugi shook his head and tightened his hands into fists. "You can't do that!" He exclaimed. "You're my aniki, I can't let you go! You protected me, you've been protecting me this whole time! I need you! Thanks to you, I have the strength to protect Yami, so you can't leave! I. Need. You!"
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do!"
"Yugi-"
"NO! I don't want to lose you!" His fists shook as his body eventually became weak. "N-Not again..." He whispered. "Atemu and Yami-kun were starting to warm up to you, and you ruined it! Why!? And why did you stop talking to me this whole time, giving me these horrible nightmares instead!?"
Heba sighed and looked down at Yami's body. He put his hand in his pocket before starting up again. "Because I needed you to see what would happen if I continued taking over by myself. You can't have a happy life with me around on my own." He saw Yugi's outraged face turn into puzzlement, so he dived in a little deeper. "Your dream is to have a family and get married one day. That's been your dream ever since you were a little boy, right?" He asked rhetorically while walking around from the medical bed. "That can't happen if I'm around, screwing things up on my own. I hate being a prisoner, but I hate being the cause of your misery even more. You barely have control over me, and when we alter, I practically consume you. You're too unstable with me here. Hell, I put you in a miniature coma the last time we argued. You can't have a baby with me doing shit like that, and your boyfriends would be worried sick every second of the day." Heba watched tears develop in Yugi's eyes, he still wouldn't listen to the truth. "I died years ago, and I should have stayed that way. You keep clinging to me, and that needs to stop. You need to consume me this time. Completely."
The hacker shook his head as he turned his back towards him, silently sniffling. "...You're all I had left, Heba. I, I can't live without you."
"But you won't have to if you let me merge with you. You've already done it." Heba softly said back. "You've been doing things by yourself this whole time, you never needed me to come out entirely. You just used my strength to help you get through tough times, but that's all you needed. I came out a lot more when you were younger, but you're a grown ass man now. You've got two boyfriends, a house, and a cat who you consider your daughter. Not only that, but now you've got friends who love you. You're not alone anymore. You've finally gotten what you always wanted, a family." He suddenly appeared in front of Yugi, and placed his fingers underneath his chin to make him look him in the eyes. "You don't need me to take charge anymore, Yugi." His lips curled into a gentle smile, with pride shining in his transparent eyes. "You're finally strong enough to stand up on your own. To fight on your own."
Tears dripped onto the floor. "N-None of that...is true..." He sobbed. "I still have this...d-disorder, and my heart-"
"Yugi." He interrupted him immediately. "Grow, up. Your IQ is over two hundred fifty and you're both stronger than Yami, and faster than Atem. You can't die, and you're one of the best agents in D75 of all time." He placed his hands on his hips and made a small smirk. "Sure, you're still a damn crybaby. But that's nothing that can't be fixed, as soon as you grow up." He reached down to grasp Yugi's arm, holding his wrist upwards so he could feel if he was shaking. He wasn't thanks to the chemical mix he used earlier. Yugi noticed that while Heba held his hand, he didn't feel anything. He couldn't feel Heba holding his limb. "Yeah, you've got a problem with the shaking and all, but you're smart enough to find a way to stop it. Maybe your heart condition can't be fixed, but it can still be treated. None of your problems are any huge hindrance to you, Yugi." He let go of his arm. "But me?" He gestured his hands towards himself. "I, will hindrance you. I will slow you down. I will keep you unhappy. That's why I was absent from your consciousness this whole time, because I wanted to prove to you how better off you'd be if I wasn't here constantly altering with you. And look at how better your relationship is without me screwing it up." He made a somber smile. "Sad, ain't it?"
At this point, Yugi was covering his face with his arm, hiding his eyes once more. "S-So...That's it, then? You're leaving me?"
Heba shrugged. "Not really. I might be a little more silent from now on, but I'll still be with you. I'll be here, yet not. I guess." He brightened his smile a bit. "Doesn't mean I didn't have a good time with ya, though." Saying that made Yugi slightly lift his head. "Bustin' heads, gettin' it on with your boytoys, talking with you about nothing...That was all, really fun. Spending this much time with you, was the best years of my life. 'Sides," He added. "I'd do anything to make you happy. And if me merging with you can help make that happen, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm not asking you to forget me, I'm just asking you to accept the truth." He lightly punched Yugi's arm, even though the hacker still felt nothing. "Buck up, nerd. You need to keep living your life. And don't do it for me, just do it for yourself. If you don't, I'll haunt the shit out of you."
With silence, the hacker wiped his eyes with his arm and lowered it from his face. With another sniff, he kept his eyes lowered to the ground. "...What do I tell Atemu and Yami-kun?"
His aniki lightly kicked his feet to raise up some dust, even though he wasn't actually there. "...Tell them, that I never really left. Tell them that you just finally accepted the truth about me. Trust me, they'll understand. Somehow." He explained.
"And what about the monster?"
Heba sucked his teeth. "That asshole? Please, Yugi. He's nothing but your shadow, just like me. He only steps in when you need a boost, and less self-control. You needed me to pull him out in the past, but that's not the case now. He's your trump card basically, but nobody important. Don't you remember?" He asked. "He's the you I told you to make up whenever you needed something to make you stronger."
"Look, kid. Listen to me for a sec."
"Y-Yes?"
"The world, is a terrifying, cruel and dangerous place. And it's people, are just as disturbing. The things you see here, will destroy you. It will haunt you, it will stain your mind for years to come. All these stupid, mentally unstable gerbils here...They're all nutjobs waiting to die and willing to take anything else out with them. The doctors? They're not doctors, they're sick fucks who like poking needles into us. And soon, you'll be next."
"M-Me? But, why? I didn't-I-I'm not sick!"
"I know you ain't kid, but it don't matter. You're trapped here like the rest of us, an experiment waiting to be probed. And thanks to that, they're gonna hurt you. Those crazy idiots ramming their heads into the walls in the lobby, are going to hurt you. The guards, will hurt you. Everyone here wants to hurt you."
"What...? But why, Heba?"
"Because anything here goes in this hellhole. I don't want you to get hurt. Not just physically, but mentally. So, I need you to do me a huge favor."
"What kind of favor?"
"You need to put up a wall. A big, steel, tough wall that cannot be broken under any circumstances. You need to use that wall to protect yourself from going crazy like me. Become someone who will never be scared or intimidated by anything. Someone that'll be tough enough to dish out anything they throw at you, even if it's torture."
"T-Torture? Wall? Heba-"
"You're a smart kid, I know you can do it. I can't let you go nuts, madness is a worser fate than death itself. That alone can kill you, so promise me you'll create something that will blind you from these atrocities. I won't always be here, so you have to do this for yourself."
"But Heb-"
"Promise me!"
"...I-I promise, aniki."
A sigh.
"Good boy."
"That was his only purpose." Only during serious emergencies, did Yugi ever alter with the monster. Very, very rarely did he ever come out. And Heba would usually make an appearance before he would since he had most of the control over him.
That's what the man told him to do a long time ago. To block out all the horrors he saw and experienced in that asylum, he had to make a monster that would take over whenever he couldn't handle a certain situation. Something that didn't have morality, that didn't comprehend virtues or object permanence. Something that was fearless, that ignored bloodshed and death. That kept going straight even with guts flying in it's face, with absolutely no emotion what so ever. That, was the monster's essence and it's purpose.
"You get it, now? He doesn't really matter. At the end of the day, he was just another part of you that you held back. Just like me. But you don't gotta do that anymore. You don't have to hold me back, but you don't have to force me to be something I'm not. I'm not better than you, we can do things together." He said while putting his arm around Yugi's shoulders to pull him close. "I'm glad I got to see you grow so much. Turned out to be a fine man." He held up a fist towards him, awaiting for a fist bump. The thing they used to do when he was a child back in the asylum. If he did that, he would disappear forever. He chuckled a little. "Don't leave me hangin'."
But, Heba was right. Having him around did cause him some problems between him, Joey, Atem and Yami more than once. He prevented him from living his life plenty of times, getting in the way of what he wanted. He did help him with his confidence, he did help him with his fighting ability, and he did help protect him whenever he was in a pickle. But now, he didn't need someone to do that for him. He already had more of a self-esteem, he already had friends, and he already had enough physical power to do whatever he needed to accomplish. And most importantly, he had a family.
He didn't need Heba anymore.
Yugi made a sharp inhale, before lifting up his fist and lightly pumping it against...Nothing. "I guess, this is goodbye then..." He whispered. "I'm, letting you go."
A bright smile graced his lips. "My spirit? Yes. But all you're doing is finally accepting my reality, letting my memory resonate with you." He instantly pulled him into a full embrace. And even still, Yugi couldn't feel anything. Like nothing was here. No warmth, not even cold. Just, still air. "I'm not really leaving you. You'll be fine, kid."
He tried gripping his shirt, but there was nothing there. "I...I'll miss you."
"I know. You've been missing me this whole time, that's why I'm here at all."
What did that mean? Yugi blinked. "W-What?"
"...Nothing." Heba patted his head, ruffling his hair. He gave him one of his signature grins and patted the side of his face. "See you later, Yugi."
Yugi tried touching him again, only to finally realize that- "See you," -No one was there in the first place. "Heba." He covered his face with one hand and sat on the very edge of Yami's bed, careful not to disturb his body. So his best friend was gone, he was no longer present. He couldn't even try to probe his own brain to reach him in his consciousness. Before all this when Heba refused to speak with him, Yugi at least had a sense that he was there. But now? That part of his head was entirely empty. He really was gone. But part of him felt as if he knew this day would come, that he had to be ready for this sooner or later. After all, he didn't take it as hard as he thought he would. He was still letting out a little bit of tears here and there but, he wasn't wailing. Maybe he was already ready for this, he was just in denial this whole time. In denial that he died.
A violent thump interrupted his thoughts.
The hacker immediately stood up from the bed. His cattle prod-rod was in his back pocket in it's miniature form, he was ready. They were slamming on the double doors. The metal shelves and desks he pushed in front of them were rattling. Supplies knocked down onto the floor, tools clattering as they fell. They would bust that down in no time flat. He had to make sure they couldn't hurt Yami or even get close. He had to make this quick, and barricade those doors right back up. He whipped out his weapons, pushing it's red button to extend it's namesake.
With a very loud thud, the shelves and desks fell over with heavy footsteps stomping in with bludgeoning weapons and firearms. His scanned for a number...Around thirty in total. More with blunt objects than firearms. Let's see, these men were wearing black. Okay, fair enough. They were wearing suits. Um, plagiarizing much? Oh, here was difference. The initials I.I were stitched onto all of their chest pockets in white to stand out. 'I.I?' Never heard of that. Oh great, they were already aiming guns at him. Neat. Yugi mentally sighed to himself, before briefly turning to glance at Yami. He promised nothing would happen to him, he had to keep it.
The hacker twirled the metallic weapon in his hand before activating it's electrical properties.
He steadily moved forward as they cocked their guns and began to shoot. Pressing the triggers and letting rounds of bullets strike at his torso. Yugi obviously took on the hits like nothing, though they went through his skin like tissue. That was one downside of his body. While it was practically unstoppable, his skin was pathetically weak. He bruised just as easily as he could get shot. Still, as long as he wasn't too drained of energy, his body could heal just as fast as he was injured. Those holes were gone in seconds, just as Yugi continued marching forward with his rod. The others with melee weapons came at him once they realized bullets wouldn't do anything. Smart.
Yugi made his other hand adjust the bones in his fingers to make a claw-like effect, ready to tear out bones and flesh. One person with a meteor hammer swung the spiked ball directly towards the hacker swiftly. Directly at his head. Blows to the head were a big no-no, he could lose his memories. After all, you couldn't heal memories stored in the brain. So Yugi moved to the side easily, the ball-end of the weapons swiping past his ear. He quickly lifted his forearm to allow the weapon's chain to wrap around his limb, stopping the attacker from regaining the spiked end back. He then yanked his arm backwards, breaking and destroying the chain from his strength alone.
After the attacker was defenseless, Yugi shoved his rode through his left eye. Blood and electricity both spurted and surged throughout his body, cooking him instantly. As his screams ended just as fast as he was electrocuted, Yugi heard a pair of two footsteps moving forward from behind him. He instantly yanked his rod out and side stepped out of their range, just barely dodging some daggers and a tomahawk. After watching that first guy fall on the ground dead, he realized he still had a shit tone more work to do. If he wanted to keep Yami safe, he'd have to do this a lot quicker. To do so, he'd take a page from Atem's book-
-And detach his rod into two separate pieces with a simple push of a button.
He then extended them both.
This understandably startled his assaulters, and they backed away from him in a huge circle. Yugi then held the two rods up, before ramming them downwards into his own body. He allowed several thousand bolts of electrical power purge throughout his bones. Now a living electric box, energy surging from his body to his weapons, his eyes sharpened as he began to slowly turn his head towards a particular group of people in the crowd of enemies. He also dropped the other extended rod, as he didn't need it anymore. He only needed one.
A small touch from his fingertips alone would kill a man. After all, humans were excellent living electrical conductors. That's why you aren't supposed to touch someone as they're being electrocuted. Sadly for them, most of them had metallic weapons. Another electric conductor.
What a shame.
Yugi lunged forward for the first man closet to him with his claw-like digits. With great speed, he couldn't move backwards or move away. Others tried shooting at Yugi once more, but again, to no avail. They stopped firing rather quickly the second Yugi gripped his fingers into the man's throat. With electricity still fully charged in his body, it surged through the other man's, electrifying him to death with a scream. For good measure, Yugi ripped his throat out. He instantly turned to the next person, rather-Persons, and readied his weapon.
With speed surpassing theirs once again, he charged forth towards an entire group. Around four men at once, he swiped his weapon circularly, nailing them all at once with bolts. They all had metallic weapons, be it guns or metal bludgeoning objects. They were all fried with quickly burnt out screams. With a total of six morons down, Yugi didn't stop. He just moved onto the next without losing any ounce of stamina. He then sprinted forward the rest of the crowd, tossing his rod and clawed hands towards anyone foolish enough to get too close.
More screams and blood decorated the room, and more bodies dropped to the floor like dead flies.
Mana grunted as she tossed away useless rounds of ammo, and reloaded her pistols just in case. Seto did the same as they rushed to the main lobby of HQ, all while bickering with Atem on the way. Unfortunately, Ishizu wasn't here to stop them, because she separated from them saying it was best to split up. The girl just groaned and tried to ignore it as they traveled to the fighting ground.
"Of all the times not to have your stupid katanas like the washed up samurai you are, you decide now not to have them with you? Are you joking?!" Seto yelled over the loud sirens of the security system still blaring.
Atem made a direct comeback with a similar snappy attitude. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't expect to be a fucking samurai rental for D75 today. I don't fucking work here anymore, asswipe!"
Seto growled and halted in his running, whipping his head at Atem. "Does that really fucking matter? You're an agent! That stigma stays with you until you die! We used to get punished for not having weapons on us at all times, how could you even forget taking your swords with you for any reason!?" He stood in front of Atem, forcing the Egyptian male to stop moving with him in the way. "To the grocery store, to the hospital-Hell, even the fucking public bathroom, it doesn't matter. You should always have your weapon on you at all times! I don't care how inconvenient it is to walk around with them, you're vulnerable otherwise!"
Fuck, his yelling, the sirens and his strong fruity-ass cheek cologne was giving him a headache. Now really wasn't the time to argue, like seriously. "Telling me things I already know, how gracious of you Seto." He replied sarcastically as he easily stepped around him to keep moving forward. Nodding over for Mana to follow since she had stopped moving as well. "Don't you think I already thought of that?" He hollered back. "We were also taught never to rely on one method of killing, which includes using your signature weapon. Say if an enemy stole it, or even broke it. You can't sit there looking doe-eyed with nothing else to use!" He argued. "I can't tell you how many times I had to stop myself from killing someone with my own index finger out in public, because that instinct to protect myself comes so natural. Let's not forget that I'm trying to live a normal life, as someone who isn't dead-set on killing anyone within a ten foot radius." He directed his hand towards Mana as a gesture. "You know many times I've scared her for acting just a tad to violently out in town because of how wired killing someone is in my brain? I walk out of my house every damn day prepared to use anything to kill, even if it isn't my swords. My fists, my bike, my belt, my own fucking boot, even my spit. Anything."
Mana blinked at that. Saliva? You could use even that as a weapon? Gross, and also, how?
Her older brother continued with an exasperated tone. "As a true assassin, you are never to restrict yourself to any way of killing. You are never to let it be a handicap! Doing so is amateur, and you know that," He briefly turned his head to Seto's direction, who had continued to stand by. "So piss the hell off! If you're just going to be a distraction, then maybe you should have stayed back with your brother instead!" He glanced down at Mana and ordered for her to move faster. "Come on."
Feeling slight awkwardness in the heat of the argument, she nodded. "O-Okay!"
As they walked off and left Seto to himself in the corridor, the tall man could only smirk. Excellent, so he didn't forget his training. He never did, he was just good at hiding it to the public so he could live as a normal citizen. And apparently so he wouldn't scare his little sister. Thank God, he thought. He truly thought Atem had gone soft and lost that edge. Well, though he remembered their lessons, that didn't mean he held onto that feeling of bloodlust. That, would be proven in the lobby when he'd be forced to kill. It's been so long since he's seen the Egyptian move and slaughter, that would be a sight to behold.
A true test to his pride as an assassin.
Seto didn't take long to catch up with the two siblings back in the HQ lobby. Or at least, he assumed they were already here. The place was a congested mess, he couldn't really see anyone. There were hundreds of people fighting, with blood splatters and bullet shells on the floor. There were already several bodies laying all over, and he couldn't see Atem's spiky head or that girl of his. The good part about this? He didn't see any of their own men dead, only the enemies with that weird I.I insignia on their chests. Shit, he'd just have to rendezvous with the siblings later.
For now, he had some killing to do.
Seto lock and loaded his twin silver glocks, and got ready to aim and fire. None of the enemies really noticed them yet, as they were too occupied in fighting off everyone else. Perfect. With a shrinking and dilating pupil of a hawk, the eldest Kaiba held up one gun and stared at the first target of the day. He pulled the trigger, firing instantly with little recoil resistance. The person he fired at was already fighting another agent, they didn't realize someone had shot at him, and got him right between the eyes. One down, several more to go.
Seto changed his next target, holding up both guns while slowly marching forward into the chaos. He shot again, killing another. Looked to another enemy, and shot that one too. He kept pulling those triggers over and over, the loud bang of his pistols echoing off the walls of the lobby over the sirens as more enemies fell. Actually, those things were fucking annoying. He darted his eyes over to the alarms flashing red on the walls, before quickly disposing of them as well with a few easy shots. Just like that, the room stop flashing red and the blaring ceased.
Right after he did that, he heard quick footsteps behind him. He instantly turned around swiftly and aimed, shooting the fool who dared tried to sneak attack him with a crowbar. Huh. That was different. Oh, someone was behind him again. He rose his other arm to shoot without even looking, as he couldn't. Eleven more was coming his way from the front, with machine guns. Before the dead body behind him could drop, he quickly grasped it and yanked it in front of himself to use as a shield. He backed away while keeping an eye out behind him to make sure he didn't run into another gunman. He carefully stepped over bodies and rose his other arm to shoot while still clutching the corpse in front of him.
He managed to kill three of the machine gun holders, but there were still eight more. Not only that, but the corpse he was using was starting to become way too tattered with bullet holes to be used any further. With a grunt, he held up the body and tossed it at the machine gunners, using that as a distraction to shoot as many as he could in the legs in split seconds. Four fell, but four still remained. The body landed on the remaining four who still were standing, and they stumbled, giving Seto just enough time to shoot once more.
Bam, bam, bam, bam, he shot them all in the knees. They all fell as well, howling in agony as they couldn't stand back up. Seto simply walked over to finish the job, popping the eight of them in the head with blood flooding around his shoes. Damn, Joey just shined those for him. He was definitely gonna bitch at him later for this, great.
His eyes suddenly widened, something told him to move. His back was turned too long. He instantly side stepped away, barely dodging a stray bullet that almost grazed his shoulder blade. He held up his guns and saw the culprit-Holy shit. That was a fucking mini-gun! Seto's aiming posture faltered as he leveled the situation. Around thirty feet in front of him, was a large man holding up a very heavy weapon. A weapon only used for turrets, free-handed to be known as a mini-gun. Okaaay, that was a problem. Even if Seto did shoot this bastard, he was a big man. He could take a bullet or two. He'd have to get him in the head immediately.
But he also had to move, 'cause that thing would kill him if he didn't! He moved to sprint, just barely dodging the six sum of bullets firing at him. Mini-guns fired rounds quickly, he couldn't keep running like this. As long as that big bastard had a steady aim, it wouldn't be long before he got Seto. He saw that other agents tried stopping him, but the man just smacked them away with the weapon. Again, that thing was very heavy. One hit from that gun, and you'd be knocked out unconscious at best. Shit, their agents were going down. Seto could aim and shoot, but aiming while sprinting like this was very unreliable. He could miss easily, but damn it, he had to try.
He whipped out his pistols in front of him, shoving his fingers on the triggers. One shot got him in the shoulder. Damn it, not good enough! The other shot slipped against his ear, making the large man cry out in pain. He paused for a second to hold the side of his head, blood gushing down his neck. Good, he could take this time to-
"Ngh..!" Seto clenched his eye shut as he almost lost his balance. Something hit him. He looked down as his left hand trembled while crimson dripped below. Someone must have shot him right in his palm. Probably an enemy way in the back, one he couldn't see passed the crowd. Damn it, it was starting to sting already. Who was it, and from where? No, he didn't have time to speculate. It hurt like a bitch, but he had no problem pushing past it. He had to shoot that fat bastard before he pulled that big ass gun on him again.
Suddenly, before Seto could bring up his weapons again, a pretty red hole decorated itself through the big man's skull. He then dropped the mini gun to his feet with a loud thud, falling forward on the floor with an even louder thud. Dead. Behind him was Mana, blowing the smoke from one of her long barreled revolvers. She smirked and glanced at Seto.
"Need some help?"
The tall brunette just sucked his teeth and stood up straight. He held his arms up to his collar and readjusted them with his fingers, his hands still gripping his guns. He cleared his throat and looked away, saving face from his small hiccup of being practically cornered. "I didn't need it, I had him."
Mana chuckled. "Sure you did." She casually walked over to him while analyzing their settings, before quickly holding up her weapons. "There was at least one hundred men in the lobby, there's still four dozen more." As she said that, Seto noticed they cleared the room pretty quickly, but there was still a lot more fighting. With some of their people down from that large asshole shooting, they didn't have that many reinforcements in this area. Besides, they were all useless anyway.
Seto saw that some of those four dozen remaining enemies noticed them, and were starting to come their way. "So," He began slowly while reloading his guns. "That big bastard had a mini gun. Any other special pricks I should know about before we do this?"
The girl readied her legs, her sea foam eyes narrowing. "Well, there's a few of them. Some brawny muscled pricks to be exact. No more mini-guns, they're completely unarmed." She frowned. "But they keep shrugging off bullets like it's nothing. They're kinda scary."
"Speaking of muscled pricks, where's your brother?"
"Atem was," She hesitated in an unsure manner. "...Preoccupied with one of those said pricks." She explained as a few of them were nearing closer. "He was protecting me, told me to go on and find you."
"And," Seto started to clench his teeth as he realized what was in front of them: One of those brawny assholes she just described was stomping towards them. "This is one of them, isn't it?" The muscles on this man, it truly was terrifying. It looked inhumane. All those veins, and the bulges on his mass were practically pulsing out of his clothes. Jesus, if Atem ever looked nearly as bad, he probably would have never felt attracted to him in the first place. He was taller than Seto, way over six feet. He had a thick neck, and his hands were probably larger than both his head and Mana's combined. He took back what he said about Yugi, this was a fucking mutant.
Mana gulped as she felt herself take a step back. "Yeah, it is."
The Kaiba licked his lips before rubbing his fingers against his triggers. "You scared?" He asked as his large shadow loomed over them. "Were you scared, killing for your first time?"
The girl shook her head, a nervous smile growing on her face. "No. Ishizu helped me get over that during my time here with special missions. I'm not afraid of hurting bad people." She stomped her heel forward and prepared to fire, instantly forcing herself to swallow her fear. "Including this bastard right here!" She exclaimed.
Seto sneered a bit. She truly was that idiot's little sister, she had his impulsiveness and his fiery attitude.
"Fine, then I'll let you make the first move."
END - 28!
Okay, this took a lot longer than expected. Sorry about that. And yeah I promised some hellah drama, but it doesn't seem to be that much of it going on as of now. Don't worry though, it's gettin' there.
LONG AUTHOR'S NOTE REGARDING YUGI (Yay, I guess.)
So this whole 'Heba' thing with Yugi, do you get what's going on? If not, I'll explain because this is complicated.
I've read in some articles that sometimes, personalities or features of those personalities within a person that has DID, can merge with others. The reason why Heba muted himself within Yugi for months, was to prove to him that if Heba stopped putting himself into his personal life, things will finally be normal for him. As a personality, Heba is not an 'evil' entity, just a mischievous one. He only comes out when he feels he is absolutely needed, only to assist Yugi. For instance, when Yugi drives a car, or needs to stay completely still, or needs to use certain fighting techniques that Yugi ultimately can't do thanks to his condition.
The reason why he was made at all, is because the real Heba's death was the most traumatizing thing that's ever happened to Yugi. To hell with being experimented on, losing the real Heba was what killed his innocence as a child the most. And the fact that he's the one who killed him, crushed him. He took what the real Heba said and indeed built a 'wall' to protect his psyche from going absolutely bonkers, sure. That became 'the monster', Yugi's other personality. But in turn, he also created Heba, because of how much he missed and loved him. That was his second wall, a wall of comfort. A wall that had a bunch of pillows and mattresses duct taped to it instead of barbed wire.
Heba was Yugi's confidence, his inner strength that he needed to reach out to whenever he felt that he was too weak at heart. Heba isn't a trump card for him, he's just a back up. A face down card. But because he couldn't let his death go, he clung to his memories and tried desperately to make something that mimicked him. Even if he had to use his own body and brain to accomplish that. That is the only reason why Yugi's Heba exists within his brain.
But Yugi's problem was that he didn't let him stay a face down card. He tried to make him a front liner, when Heba was a back seater. A bench warmer, an archer. That's why Yugi's secrecy of his multiple personalities was so perfectly hidden before Aftermath came to be. Being up front is not their purpose, unless they wanted to be. Heba didn't like the idea of being the host of Yugi's body, so he left that up to Yugi and only came out when he felt he had to. The monster, simply doesn't give a shit and will only appear when he truly wants to. (But we'll get into the personality of THAT enigma later on...)
Yugi never wanted Heba or the monster to be known to others, but because they were, he thought making them (99% Heba) feel normal in his personal life would make things better for everyone involved. But that ended up doing some of the opposite effect. Because Yugi tried integrating Heba into his personal life so much, it strained their relationship and it was destroying what Yugi worked so hard to get: A happy and loving family. Heba knew this, and already knew he had previously screwed up his relationships with other people before, Joey being one of them. That was in chapter 13, First Rage.
He knew that despite what he went through before, Yugi was trying yet again with Atem and Yami to make Heba a norm, when that wasn't what he was at all. This is why he said that doing the same damn thing over and over is just insane, and stupid. And he also knew that because Yugi could never handle the real Heba's death in the past, that he would always hold himself back by doing insane and stupid stuff like this. Yugi attempting to make Heba a norm in his personal life, was starting to become one of those very handicaps that he warned him about. It's not that he didn't like being on good terms with Yami and Atem, he just hated what Yugi was trying to do to him in order to fit his order of life. He'd do anything for Yugi, but Heba (as a separate entity) didn't like being controlled to such an extreme extent.
This was why Heba wanted Yugi to just let go and let him merge with him. Not so that he could finally 'die' like he was supposed to permanently, but so Yugi could finally accept that Heba is just another part of him that he should live with in harmony, not as a secrecy or as a separate entity that his partners would be forced to handle just because. Instead of working on their own with different memories, why not work together so Yugi can be happy and still have Heba's essence stored in his body forever? Sure he won't physically be here anymore, but that's not the point. The point is doing what's best for Yugi, and that's what merging means to them.
This persona of 'Heba' is something that Yugi thought was the manifestation of his dead best friend and mentor, who he gleamed as his ultimate role model. But in actuality, that personality is just (in Yugi's eyes) a better person that (in Heba's eyes) Yugi can easily become if he just learns to let go and ultimately accept both himself and his traumatic past.
In conclusion: This is not the last we will see of Heba, as DID personalities can not just 'die off'. In the future, we will see Yugi perfectly synchronized with the very person he thought he would need for the rest of his life. Both entities (Yes I'm counting Yugi's base personality as an entity since he is the main host of his body) will be fused. This is why in Yugi's eyes, his Heba is technically dying when in reality, this personality he created is still very much alive. He'll still be with Yugi for the rest of his life, he'll just be more of an advantage than a hindrance.
In other words, he'll always live on in Yugi thanks to his love and remembrance of him, and will mentally incorporate his legacy into his body forever. Now I'll also say this. As you read this author's note, please let it be known that this is my interpretation. I know that since this is my story, whatever I say is practically fact, but I think that's a tad boring. Ultimately, it's up to you on how you think Yugi's DID plays out.
Sorry for the long ass author's note, I just felt I should clear some stuff up.
I just hope people won't get mad at me for what I do later on in this story.
