The rocky outcropping gave way to a vast valley of gentle hills.

A golden carpet blanketed their surface - each stalk swaying and shimmering as the wind raked through their depths like a sudden current. Clouds, tumultuous and seething, offered no light to the plains - threatening rain if the slightest disturbance be worthy of invoking their anger.

Rocks dislodged at the approaching heavy foot-falls, tumbling from the small overlook and to the fields below interrupting the quiet peace.

The overcast sky opened suddenly, one sun pricing the cloud cover to illuminate the amber sea below as if the approach of the gold-clad man alone had reduced the tension of the heavens.

Glint off the golden field lit up the world of the valley - silvery lake far beyond almost blinding at the surface. The brightened world reflected in the brilliant blue eyes - becoming wider with every step toward the vast expanse.

Pace quickly revived, light boot falls descended into the valley, white teeth visible through the infectious curve of his crooked grin as he surveyed the new found beauty.

Soon, he was among the stalks, wheat-like plants bending their heads in a bow as he pushed into them. Sandy hair was soon blending with their depths, swaying with the wind as he strode deeper.

He was faintly aware of the voices behind him - his own followers entering the valley after him.

"Captain?"

He turned as he was beckoned - lopsided grin spreading at his friends call.

Impeccable, black hair flicked in the wind - obscuring the vision of it's most annoyed owner, eyebrow raised impossibly high.

"I have found the soil alarmingly similar to that of the components of earth's; rendering the flora similar in molecular structure and physical properties."

But the report was lost on the distant ears of its recipients as he turned back to the shimmering golden blanket ahead of him, fingering a stalk with a gentle touch - gaze lingering far away.

Still endeavoring to discreetly tame his hair, his severe companion continued, observing the valley skeptically. " I believe this valley is primarily composed of a plant in the grain family similar to that of Earth's-"

"Wheat."

Plucking the head of a tremoring stalk from some absent-minded, distant habit, he bit it thoughtfully, rolling it in his lips. The confusion heightened on his companion's face as he watched this action - only adding to the shine in the blue-eyed smile.

Closing his eyes, he turned toward the sun's shallow rays and took a deep breath.

He smelt the earth, damp, rich - rain had just fallen - the chaff, musky, dry, dead - the harvest was in season - the air, crisp, clean, vast - the open land.

A deep breath left his lungs - blown away in the faintly familiar breeze.

"Do you feel that…" He muttered, a hidden burden lifting with the sweeping wind and carried away with some of the already threshed chaff.

"What, Captain?" The dark comrade turned, surveying the valley before his eyes settled back on his friend. He watched him inquisitively, following the smile of his companion with a disenchanted confusion.

The reply was barely audible as blue eyes met the calmed sky - billowing clouds subsiding their turmoil with a breath of fresh wind sweeping over the plains.

"Home."
