Another update for my readers! No promises on the quality or the length though. I'm currently procrastinating working on advanced courses to be eligible to apply for university, which isn't the smartest move on my part, and keeping my writing a secret from all those around me. I've got my parents convinced I play games that need constant typing just because I like the sound of keys clicking.
Which is only a partial lie. I really do love the sound of keys clicking.
Alright, since I'm now in college, I actually have an excuse for having a busy schedule. But besides that, I don't have much on an excuse besides writer's block... and forgetfulness... and lack of inspiration in myself and the possibilities in my writing. But since I am on winter break for the next couple days, I thought I'd pump out a new chapter!
As for the story itself, it'll be a go-with-the-flow type of work until I can figure out a plot. Maybe I'll go look at some Zutara photos for inspiration...
"Gran Gran, tell me a bedtime story? Please?."
"Sweetheart, I don't know any bedtime stories."
"Please, Gran Gran?"
"Alright, alright. Let me think... Ah ha! Okay, settle in, cause this one is the real deal.
"Long ago, the four nations live together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years past, and my brother and I discovered the new avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills were great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the wo-"
"Gran Gran, the avatar isn't real! You said this one was the real deal."
"No interrupting!"
"But Gran Gran, the avatar is just a myth. There's no such thing as benders. You said so yourself!"
"Do you want the story or not?"
"Yes, please."
"Alright. Where was I? Oh, yes. Aang can save the world. But not without some help of course. In the beginning, Aang was joined by a mighty tactician and a talented waterbender. Now, Aang, Sokka, and Katara had made it their mission to save the world. Together they travelled from the South Pole all the way across the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, and up to the North Pole. Meanwhile, many people chased after them, especially one young firebender in particular. These people didn't want Aang and his friends to save the world, they wanted to get rid of them so that they could conquer the world. But Aang and his friends were clever, and had trained hard. They outsmarted the villains over and over. Eventually they were joined by a feisty earthbender, who helped them train Avatar Aang."
"Gran Gran, this story is boring. Where's the romance?"
"Romance? This isn't a story about romance. It's a story about bravery, courage, and the journey to save the world."
"But that's not interesting! No one is falling in love! The girl isn't being swept off her feet. I need a new story, Gran Gran."
"You need to go to bed, that's what you need."
"Kissing story."
"Bed time."
"Kissing story."
"Fine. Do you remember the story of the creation of Omashu? How the lady Oma and the man Shu fell in love but were never allowed to be together?"
"Yes."
"This story is kind of like that. Long ago, before your parents were even born, there was a young waterbender. She was beautiful and powerful, but she was in love with someone she was forbidden to be with. She was in love with a firebender. And not just any firebender, but the ruler of the very nation her tribe had been at war with for a hundred years. She didn't love him at first, though. He chased her around the world trying to capture her friend for the better part of the winter and had no concern for the rest of the world besides himself. But by summer time, he had seen the error of his ways and changed his path. And after the world was saved, he stepped up to take the position of Fire Lord and led his people into a new era of peace."
"Get to the kissing already."
"I was about to, but guess who was too overeager and had to interrupt right before I got to that part?"
"Oh! Keep going then!"
"Nope. Too late. It's past your bedtime."
"Please, please, please?"
"No. You can here the myths about the waterbender and her Fire Lord lover in the morning."
"But Gran Gra-"
"Goodnight."
