And to think the day was going so well. "Did you guys seriously have to go and do that?" Robin had his hands on his hips, not very happy at the moment as he addressed the group standing before him. "Aww chill out Rob. I think you're over reacting a bit."
The usually cheery nice cream salesman casted a glare at Sans. Not appreciating his comment nor the pun he snuck in. Didn't he realize now was NOT the time for jokes? But then again, this is Sans he was talking to.
Were it not for the fact that they were currently resting at the annoying comedian's house Robin would've had his delibird give him a nasty little surprise. What surprise he would get from the wicked ice type Robin wasn't sure. No matter what it wouldn't have been very funny.
"You all seem to forget that I don't want my challengers to be distracted by an audience-No one is supposed to be watching the battle. Yet there you all were. Even you Toriel!" The fairy gym leader looked ashamed, unable to meet his gaze.
Currently her, Asriel, Sans and Rosemary were there, getting lectured because they were caught spying on his battle with Frisk. "I apologize Robin, I was only worried about Frisk." They all were to some extent and at least the brunette didn't see them, because they hid behind some of the several snow covered trees.
But regardless of their reasoning they still did it. When Robin was asked to join the Underleague he really only had one rule requested before taking the position. "I know, but it still wasn't right." And that was there be no audience during his battles in the Underleague.
Again he wanted his opponent to come at him at their best. With people watching and shouting in the background, it usually made the trainer feel pressured. Time and time again he's seen his opponents focus more on the people watching them, then on their pokemon and the battle itself.
Usually that lack of attention lead to an unfortunate loss that could've easily been prevented. Not to mention these battles can be dangerous for the peanut gallery. He remembered back when he was younger and taking on the challenge himself.
His supportive mother had nearly gotten crushed when an onix he battled during a tournament he took part in went on a frenzy while using rock throw. Thankfully she was alright, having dodge the attack, but that incident brought forth realization that he needed to take battles and the people involved in it with a lot more caution.
To him, it was just better for people to stay away. Yet here his teacher and friends were there, spying on them even when they were fully aware of his preferences on how his battles take place. Despite being one of the more younger gym leaders he preferred battling with old school traditions.
There were no special lights or gizmos or even a specialized battle arena for him. Despite his riddle Robin has never once used the gym area that was made for him. All he needed was an open space, and a challenger that had a deep connection with their pokemon give their best.
His wishes weren't difficult to understand or follow in the slightest, especially compared to his colleagues. Besides, his friends here would've found out who won in not even five minutes anyway! But did that happen?
No, their curiosity got the better of them. Don't they know what curiosity did to the meowth? "Anyways Robin it was a good thing we were there. Considering Pikaboo was going on a rampage!" Asriel didn't think he'd ever run into such a terrifying pokemon in his life.
And he's seen many pokemon in his time(despite being very young) that to this day still give shivers should they ever be mentioned. However none of them seem to compare to what he had just witnessed not even a couple hours ago.
From the getgo Pikaboo was an unpredictable pokemon that one day just...appeared. It only made sense that there was more to her then the little chirps she made as she hopped around Frisk. Still, no one saw just how dangerous her little friend could truly be.
She was still there, clawing at the ground, quiet mumbles that only grew louder...and Louder-AND LOUDER! Again and again delibird fired attack after attack in the hopes of knocking her out. But it was futile.
Frisk's mimikyu was already suffering from the poison status thanks to delibirds nasty little present, the gunk was acting like a protective acidic armor that prevented Pikaboo from freezing solid. With all the screaming it was hard to hear.
Immediately the young brunette clutched her ears while shouting, desperate to calm down her mimikyu. She was shaking from the cold and fear, this was the first time she had ever seen such a reaction from her friend. And she had no idea how to stop it.
"Pikaboo please!" Her cries were ignored as the small terror launched herself, her sharpened claws glinting as they cleanly sliced against the penguin pokemon's feathers. "Delibird!" The force of her strike sent him crashing against the trees, knocking him out instantly.
The ten year old had won the battle...but there was no satisfying victory to be found. Even with delibird fainted on the cold snow Pikaboo wasn't happy. No. She was far too gone. Too lost in her bloodlust. She bashed her body against the trees, the snow covered ground.
Still screeching as if in agony. The mimikyu had lost her sense of reality. "Robin!" At the call of his name the gym leader turns around, his relief eminent as his friends approach. His mind more focused on the current problem at hand.
"We gotta stop her before she destroys the entire forest!" Pokemon were fleeing left and right as Pikaboo caught them in her sights. Already several were laying on the ground immobile. "KyyYyYUUUuuUuUUu!" Toriel watched in horror, quickly running towards Frisk.
The young trainer hadn't moved from her spot, she couldn't move. "Can't you hear me Pikaboo!? You have to stop!" Tears were streaming down her face as she looked on, feeling powerless. San's glared as he took out a pokeball. "Tori get Frisk out of here!"
The older woman was more than happy to fulfill that request, easily scooping up her child. "No! I want to stay. PIKABOO!" Toriel's heart broke as Frisk kept screaming, desperately trying to return her pokemon.
But Pikaboo refused.
"Robin you and Asriel start getting these injured pokemon to safety and get ahold of Maxi!" Rosemary took out two of her pokemon. "Jumpluff! Liligrant! Use sleeping powder."
"I'm just glad we were able to get her back into the ball. If we let things continue and we wouldn't have much of Snowdin's forest left standing." It took ages for Pikaboo to faint and return to her pokeball. But not without severe consequences.
Rosemary pursed her lips as she recalled all the damage that came from the battle. There were so many wild pokemon caught in the crossfire. "Poor Maxi is going to be working overtime for this. As if he didn't have enough on his plate."
Robin winced at the mention. He owed the ginger a lot for all the trouble, but that was an issue for another time. "Something doesn't add up here." Sans took a glance to the kitchen. Just barely able to see Frisk slumped on the table, cradling the unconscious pokemon in her arms while Papyrus cooked.
The taller individual offering encouragement before chasing around that cursed poochyena. "I've seen mimikyus up on the surface, especially when me and Paps went on vacation to Alola. Never have I seen one so powerful. Let alone destructive." They can be dangerous yes.
But that more or so had to do when they were mishandled. Up until captured wild mimikyu are very shy, cautious pokemon. Because of their true appearance they find whatever scraps or rags they can find to wear. Never do they randomly strike other pokemon and trainers.
And certainly do they not find themselves covered in a black deadly aura as they go about slashing their claws at anything that so much as moves in their sight. "Frisk found her in the Ice Caverns did she not? Has Pikaboo always lived there?"
Robin furrowed his brows in thought. Out of everyone there, he was the one that traveled and explored the caves the most. "No. Actually I didn't even know about a mimikyu being down there until the rumors about a monster pikachu was being spread through town." Pikaboo was a recent addition.
Unless the person who originally found her had done something to provoke her, but that was a low possibility. Otherwise the wicked little thing would've attacked Frisk with no guilt or hesitation. Why was the short brunette so easily accepted?
Especially when anyone else who approached were immediately forced into a battle. Sans remembered when his brother and duskull battled her, how easily the phantom pokemon was swatted away. A one hit k-o.
"Hone claws increases strength and accuracy of the pokemon when used...but not to the degree Pikaboo had." Toriel hummed, her mind going through all the research she's made and read over the years. "Her ability is disguise, where essentially she is protected from the first attack on her frame."
Mimikyu was a pokemon she admittedly didn't have too much information on despite her status as a fairy type gym leader. "When things have calmed down I will talk to Frisk on this. See if we can figure out if Pikaboo is just powerful by nature...or if there is a more sinister explanation for this."
At the moment it was the best plan they could make. The forest is in shambles, with several wild pokemon being healed at the pokemon center. And Frisk, despite Papyrus's best efforts isn't in the mood for conversation.
Robin felt it in his pocket as he made his way into the kitchen. "AH HELLO ROBIN! WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A TASTE OF MY DELICIOUS CHEER UP SPAGHETTI?" The ice trainer smiles with a small shake of his head.
"Actually I was thinking we could use some fresh nice cream for dessert. Mind if I steal your kitchen for a bit?" Even as he rolled up his sleeves, he couldn't help but feel the badge nudge against his jeans. "NOT AT ALL FRIEND! HOWEVER YOU ARE NOT TO ACTUALLY STEAL THE KITCHEN!"
Regardless of the situation, Frisk did win the battle against him. "Thanks man." Up until Pikaboo went wild, he had seen the hard work and dedication she had when going toe to toe with him. She deserved her second badge.
Even if she didn't think so. "DID YOU HEAR THAT FRISK? WE WILL GET TO SEE CULINARY MASTERS OF ICE AND CREAM~" The sad look in her eyes were still there. Robin highly doubted she would accept it. "Time to see some magic that warm your hearts up in no time!" But he was still going to give it to her.
"Can...we give some nice cream to Pikaboo?" For a moment the blue haired man paused. Noting her unable to meet his gaze, let alone see his soft smile. "Of course. I think she needs it most." It was astonishing how...unaffected Frisk was with the whole ordeal.
Or rather not unaffected-no that was the wrong word to use. But Robin couldn't help but admire how caring Frisk was to her pokemon. Even after such a scary sight, seeing her pokemon go out of control, she was still able to lovingly embrace Pikaboo.
More worried for her, then frightened of her. "Nice cream is safe for pokemon to eat? Can I help make some?!" This was just another small hurdle for the rookie trainer to jump over. There wasn't a doubt in his mind as he waved her over.
"Absolutely! I'll show you the ropes~" He couldn't wait to see this ten year old give the Underleague challengers a run for its money. She had quite the future ahead of her.
