Prompt #529 from tamingthemuse- Rattled

Note: From now on most of my tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.

"Come on, Xander," Spike said holding a Ouija board in his hands. "It'll be fun! It's the perfect time to use it. The power's out and we've got

all these lit candles. What else are we going to do?"

"Spike, I'm not going to mess around with that thing!" Xander exclaimed backing away from Spike. Just the sight of the Ouija rattled him.

"You don't know who you'll end up talking to. Hell you might pull the spirits into our world! We've got enough trouble as it is! Now put it away!"

Spike ignored Xander and started to set it up on the coffee table placing lit candles around it so they could see the letters. "Are you telling me

there isn't a single person you'd like to talk to from the other side?"

"No," Xander said but both he and Spike heard the doubt in his answer.

Moving the couch out of the way Spike sat down in front of the board. "Just try it."

Slow movements forward Xander asked, "have you done it before? Contacted someone you missed?"

"Yes," Spike said but didn't elaborate.

"Don't we need more than two people?" Xander asked hoping for a loophole out of this.

Spike sighed. "Two will work just as well. Are we doing this or not? I could be at out getting pissed."

"Fine, but if we get killed by the evil spirits I'm going to be pissed at you," Xander finally agreed. He sat across the table from Spike. "How do we

do this?"

"Place you fingers lightly on the planchette. Now most people just want to talk to random spirits but you want to talk to a specific one, done

you?" Spike placed his fingers on the planchette and waited for Xander to follow suit.

With a calming breath Xander did as Spike had. "Now what?" He whispered.

"Concentrate on who you want to talk to then call their name,"Spike instructed.

"Okay. Okay." Xander closed his eyes and concentrated on the person... spirit he wanted to contact. "Jesse McNally... are you here?" His eyes

flew open when the planchette began to move. He watched has it glided over the board to the word 'YES'. "Spike, that's not funny!" Xander said

his eyes glaring at Spike.

Spike shot Xander a look. "That wasn't me." He saw Xander's doubt. "I swear on my soul."

Xander stopped breathing. "Jesse? Is it really you?"

It pulled away from Yes only to go back again.

"Jesse," Xander sobbed. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to kill you."

The planchette began to move around the board. Spike saying the letters as they went. "Y-O-U-D-I-D-N-T-I-W-A-S-A-L-R-E-A-D-Y-D-E-A-D."

When there were no more letters Spike read what was spelled. "You didn't. I was already dead."

"I know, but it doesn't make me feel better, buddy," Xander said his voice sore from trying to stop the crying. "I miss you."

"M-E-T-O-O. Me too," Spike read. More letters started to be pointed at. "O-N-E-M-O-R-E-T-H-I-N-G. One more thing. B-E-C-A-R-E-F-U-L.

Be careful." Suddenly the planchette began moving so quickly that Spike couldn't spell out the words or he would miss something. When Jesse

was done his message the planchette moved one more time to 'GOODBYE'. Spike snatched his hands away as if he had been burned.

Xander watched as horror crossed Spike's face. "What? What did he say?"

If Spike could have paled he would have. With a shaky voice he answered, "from beneath you, it devours."

Feeling like he was going to be sick Xander knew whatever this new evil they were facing was going to be the biggest they'd ever faced and it

left him feeling like they wouldn't all survive it at the end.

The End
