Hiccup's p.o.v

"Okay Hiccup calm down" I said to myself. I was waiting in the cove for Astrid to show up. I was dressed in my normal riding gear minus the helmet, since everyone knew who I was.

Toothless was having fun splashing around in the water and trying to catch the fish that escaped him five years ago.

DJ had left for Rome early this morning. I hated sending one of my brothers out there on his own, but he's the only one that can speak romanian perfectly.

And even though I'll never admit this to him, he does know how to get the job done. Normally he kills an entire town, but he gets results.

'So with him stopping off at wing maiden island to see Atali, then he should be back in two weeks. Maybe three depending on how soon he can get the information' I think.

I heard the sound of wings flapping as well as my name being called. Turning around I seen Astrid hopping off Stormfly, who went to play with toothless.

"Hey Astrid" I said turning around fully. She was dressed in her normal clothing as well.

'Right this is nothing but two friends going for a flight. Not a date' I said mentally. I didn't know what was wrong with me even if it was a date.

I've asked out at least a dozen girls or more in my travels. Almost all of them said yes and it almost always went further, way further.

"Hiccup?" Astrid said snapping me out of my thoughts. I shook my head making her laugh.

"Sorry" I said before whistling for Toothless. He quickly came up to me and I got on.

"So you wanna just go for a few laps 'round the island?" I asked. She nodded before mounting Stormfly.

"Sure that sounds great" she said before taking off. I smiled before moving my left foot and Toothless flew up and beside Stormfly.

"So does your rider have a crush on mine as well?" Toothless asked casually. I could feel my face going red, but since Astrid is still ahead a little I don't think she can see it.

"I think so" Stormfly answered. "The razorwhip rider and one of the hideous zippleback riders came and got her ready for this 'date' thing".

"Not a date" I said whispering so Astrid wouldn't hear. Even though she didn't understand dragonese Stormfly looked at me before turning her head to Toothless again.

"Don't ask me, I don't get humans" he said before Stormfly could ask anything. I smiled and that's when I realized that Astrid was staring at me.

"What?" I asked confused. She just shrugged before answering.

"What's it like, talking with dragons?" she asked. I shrugged before leaning back.

"It's just like talking with a human. There's some that are nice and then there's Toothless" I said. As I heard him grumble in surprise and flip his tail into the back of my head.

"Ow. See" I said making her giggle. The area then drifted back into silence. I was wondering if I should bring up the conversation from last night.

"Hey so the conversation from last night" Astrid said. Oh thank the gods, it actually happened.

"Ah yeah" I said. "I'll be completely honest, I thought I imagined it" I said making her laugh slightly.

"Yeah so... What happens now?" I said. She sighed and lightly pulled on Stormfly's harness to make her slow down. Good.

"I don't know" she said looking at me. "I'm not the same girl you knew and from how I seen you handled that roman soldier. You sure ain't the Hiccup I once knew" she said.

I smiled and chuckled. I then thought about something.

"So why don't we start over? Two adults don't know each other and they may wanna start something" I said.

She smiled and then flew closer before extending her hand.

"Astrid Hofferson. One of berks best fighters and beginner dragon rider" she said. I smiled and accepted the hand, shaking it.

"Hiccup Haddock aka Ryder. Expert dragon rider, explorer, bounty hunter, hitman and muscle for hire" I said as her mouth fell open in shock.

"Wow, you've lived" she said as we laughed and continued to talk.

timeskip

Me and Astrid landed in the town square, laughing. We had been out for maybe two hours getting to know each other again.

She was right, we really didn't know each other like we used to. I told her about my life after I had left berk. Some of the stuff I had to do.

And then she told me some of the stuff she did. Hunting for boars hurting berk's crops, boating through some killer storms.

It was really cool some of the stuff she did. When we landed, I seen my dad and Gobber walking towards us.

Gobber had a look of concern and my dad had a look of purpose and looked like he was on a mission.

"Hiccup" he said in a firm tone. "I need to talk to you" he said. Toothless immediately growled and crouched at his tone but I petted him on the head to calm him down.

"So talk" I said hopping off Toothless and meeting his gaze. My dad just shook his head and gestured.

"Alone... Please" he asked. I was shocked normally his words were orders and demands. Not 'please'.

I nodded before leaning over to Toothless's ear.

"I'll be fine, go see your kids" I said in a firm tone. He had a worried look, but nodded before he started towards the woods looking for his mates scent.

"So Astrid I guess I'll see you later" I said smiling she nodded before taking off with Stormfly.

"So son... how have ya been?" dad said as we began to walk through the village. Everyone was staring at me as we walked. Some with lustful eyes, others with curious ones.

"I've been okay" I said trying to ignore the stares. But I knew he didn't pull me aside for causal conversation, and I think he knew that too.

"Son... Your mother" he said. Ah yes that. The conversation that I was dreading since I drew her picture.

"Yeah" I said plainly he finally stopped and looked at me. I stopped too now. We were both now at the docks watching the last of the fisherman come in for the winter.

"You.. ah.. You haven't really talked about her since you got here and... I know what that means, Hiccup" he said. I sighed and nodded.

He sighed and leaned against the rail of the docks, sadness in his eyes. I looked down. It was hard enough to loose your wife once, but to loose her twice.

"Di-did she go peacefully?" he then asked. Do I tell him the truth I kept asking myself.

"No she didn't... She left this world wondering if her son will be reunited with her again soon" I said looking up at him.

flashback/ third person view.

Hiccup grunted as he threw another punch, only to be blocked by a forearm. Drago then kicked the young boy back as Valka then rushed forwards with her staff.

Hiccup took this time to address the wound on his chest from drago's staff and look around him. His mom and himself were on sea stack, surrounded by his dragon riders and drago's fighting to the death.

Hiccup then ran back into the fight as his mom was hit across her face and send to the side. Hiccup roared as he ran by his mom and raised one of his daggers. Drago threw his staff with the intention the kill. Hiccup turned his body and the staff barley missed him, going under his armpit.

However he heard the staff enter something and he seen Drago smile a crooked smile. He stopped and turned around, but he wished that he hadn't. His mom was kneeling on the ground with Drago's staff embedded in her chest.

end of flashback.

Hiccup teared up a bit as the memory came back to him. He quickly wiped the tears away and dried his cheeks.

Stoick sighed before punching the nearest thing, which was a barrel a fisherman was carrying.

"Sorry Hork" he mumbled while turning around. The fisherman waved it off being it was his chief. And that he could see the father and son were having a intense moment.

Stoick sat down on the docks as Hiccup followed his lead and did the same. Hiccup then took out a flask from his pocket and took a drink of it.

He offered it to Stoick who took a big drink of it. It was then hiccup realized that he had given him the whiskey. Especially when Stoick spit it out.

"What in Odin's beard is this?" he asked coughing a little. Hiccup smiled and took the flask back and replaced it.

"Sorry, that's mine" he said before taking a big drink. In the two years she was in his life, she was the only thing keeping him together. Other then Dagur, Eret and DJ.

"I should've killed Drago when I had the chance" Stoick said before carefully drinking the flask. Hiccup looked over at his father in shock.

"What?" he asked confused. Stoick sighed before looking back down.

"Years ago before you were born, me and a few other chiefs gathered to discuss the dragon problem when he entered. He said he and he alone could control the dragons all we had to do was serve under him" Stoick explained before taking another drink.

"We laughed at him and he then left saying 'let's see how well you do without me'. The next thing I knew dragons covered in metal armor came crashing down through the roof. Out of twenty chiefs I was the only survivor" stoick finished. Hiccup whistled before taking another drink of his flask.

"Well I guess we both screwed up then" he said holding up his flask. Stoick smiled and clinked the flasks together in a cheers motion.

"I never asked how do you feel about this, the whole dragon thing. You can answer honestly now that the other chiefs aren't around" Hiccup said.

"Honestly Hiccup... Somehow I always knew that it would do something like this. You have so much of your mother in you" Stoick said.

Hiccup smiled before pulling out a locket from around his neck. He opened it and looked at the picture of him and his mother. He did have a lot of her in him.

'I wonder how DJ is coming along' Hiccup thought as the father and son duo continued to drink on the docks.

One week later. Rome

Three men were sitting in the back room of a tavern. The other two were just hired muscle. Tito was the most important though, for he was a shot caller for a gang in the city of Rome.

"Did the corner store guy pay up yet?" Tito asked eating one of the meatballs on his spaghetti. God how he wished that he was back in Italy where the Italian food was good.

"No. That guy doesn't seem to think that we're serious" one of his men said shrugging his shoulders.

"Well neither one of you are gonna collect from him here, are ya? Get down there. Burn his store down, kill his mother do something. Send him a message" Tito said.

However before either men could move, there was a 'hey you can't go in there' followed by a crashing from the front.

Suddenly DJ walked in and when the door was open, Tito could see that the man he had put in front of the door was now through a table, knocked out.

"So this is where the Italian trash comes do be dumped" DJ said looking around. Tito was both irritated and interested by this guy. Sure he wasn't as big as some of the men back in Italy, but no one ever talked to him like that.

"Hey you lost buddy? This is a private room, now beat it" one of the guys said getting to his feet. DJ just looked at the trio with a bored, 'let's get this over' with expression.

"I'm just looking for information. And unfortunately, you're the ones who know it."

"Where and with who did the Roman soldier, Victor do his business?" he asked sitting down.

Tito rubbed his chin leaning back, this guy was intriguing. But Tito knew just who had sent the roman soldiers out recently and he did not want to get involved.

"Sorry there whitey" Tito said gesturing to DJ's suit. "But I really don't feel like answering that question. So like my pal here said beat it".

Suddenly there was a rapid knocking at the door and Tito could even hear sobbing.

"You should get that, it'll be your wife" DJ said smiling. Tito's face went into shock and fear as he snapped his fingers and one of the men went to open the door.

Once it was open, a black haired women ran inside. She knew that she wasn't supposed to burst in on her husband's meeting, but this was important.

"Tito! I can't find Antonio! he's gone!" she yelled getting to the table. Vito looked over at DJ once more, who simply winked.

Tito then launched himself over the table sending food and drinks everywhere. He then grabbed DJ by his collar of his suit.

"Where is my boy!! What have you done with him!" he yelled as his two men quickly tried to pull him back. They knew that if Tito did kill him, then they would never know where Antonio is.

"Don't worry, he's safe and I'm sorry Mrs Falcone believe me. Taking a child is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do" DJ said.

"Where is he?!" Tito asked again through gritted teeth. DJ rolled his eyes before leaning forwards meeting Tito's glare.

"Information. Now!" he said yelling the last part. Tito exhaled deeply before leaning back in his chair, no longer restrained by his thugs.

"The Romans deal out of a bar near the docks. 'The Fighting Fish'. Now my son!" Tito said.

DJ leaned back and let out a loud scream ending in a screech. Seconds later, the first door swung open before the second one.

In ran a young toddler with black hair. He was immediately hugged by his parents. But he didn't seem to be too frightened by the experience.

"Mommy, daddy. The nice guy let me fly on his dwagon. and the dwagon was really nice too" Antonio said. Tito turned to confront the man again but he was gone.

The Fighting Fish

The bar was full of laughs and giggles until the doors were forcefully pushed open. DJ walked in and looked around.

Everyone had stopped what they were doing for a few seconds before returning to their own things.

DJ turned his head to the wall and seen that on a board was four wanted posters with high rewards. Making sure no one was looking at him like they recognized him, he put his hood up.

He walked to the bar and ordered a drink before looking around once more. He didn't see anyone he recognized, so time to get some information the other way.

"Hey man can I ask you something?" he asked in Romanian. The bartender who was walking past stopped in front of him and smiled.

"My little brother, he's on that mission the Romans in this bar went on. And I was just wondering if you knew where they went or who sent them. Just so I can tell ma he's okay" DJ said playing the mother son card.

"Well, that's understandable. But... I don't see the guy in here and I'm sorry but I don't know where they went" he said. DJ sighed, faking worry.

"But I do know who sent them" the bartender said smiling. DJ smiled back. Bingo.

"Well I'd appreciate it if I knew who it was. That way I can ask him" DJ said shaking the man's hand acting gratefully.

"The man wears a black cloak and he has a large scar over his neck. He's mute obviously and his name was uh... Drago Bludvist" the bartender said after thinking after a bit.

DJ's mouth fell open in shock. Drago was dead, he seen it with his own eyes.

"Drago is dead" DJ said skeptical. Was this guy trying to fool him. The bartender just shrugged and held his hands up in an 'I don't know' gesture.

"That's what I thought, but after a few months of silence he came in with this large scar over his neck. He came in with this guy who translated his grunts and moans to the Romans... And you're not a brother of one of the romans, are you?" the bartender said finally figuring it out.

"Nope" DJ said going to walk out. However once he got to the door, he heard a rope snapped and an arrow went through his right lung.

"Sorry man, I can't have Drago mad at me" the bartender said putting his crossbow back down under the bar. DJ decided to play with them and dropped to the ground and stopped moving.

"A free round for anyone who saw him rush me" the bartender yelled at everyone, who cheered and raised their glasses.

But suddenly DJ stood back up and snapped the arrow that came out front. He then reached back and pulled the rest of the arrow out of his back.

"Does that include me?" he asked pulling his hood down, revealing a face of a pissed off vampire.

ten minutes later

DJ exited the building, his entire chin under his mouth stained with blood. He opened the door again, switching the sign from 'open' to 'closed'.

Two men then came off of a ship laughing. But when they seen DJ's face covered in blood they stopped moving towards the bar.

"Trust me" he said wiping his mouth. "It's closed for a few days". the men then ran away from the scene.

He didn't plan on killing the whole bar, but he killed the bartender, then a bystander joined in, then another and another. And five minutes in it just seemed easier.

"Alright time to fill in Hiccup. Even if it was a lie I feel like hell want to know" he said before whistling for Titan.
