Chapter 11
It had been years since that day and Kei had long since stopped caring for the hurts he felt from that woman. When she passed from the car accident he felt little for her, sure he was sad that Tohru was without another parent but that was their grandfather was for.
When his other children came back to help him in his grate age Kei was shocked. In all the time he had been in this house not once had he seen hide or hair of these people that thought themselves so high and mighty. The spoke to Tohru like she were dirt beneath their feet whenever grandfather was not in the room and him like he was a servant. They tried overruling grandfather's decisions as if they were not in his home. He had made damned sure he put a stop to that real quick. They went crying to grandfather, only to receive no assistance. "He's a young man left in my care, not a servant, we don't pay him. Your mother and I didn't raise you lazy, wash your own clothes." He stated as he looked at them with disappointment. Their behavior however processed when the man was out of sight.
Fed up with the disgusting behavior he decides to move out. "It's a long time coming old man." He told his adopted grandfather. The old man sighed, he felt terrible for the boy, adopted by his daughter and son in law just to be left like a forgotten book or toy. The child was bitter, oh he tried to hide it, but he knew. Kei watched as the couple that adopted him fawned over his granddaughter and move away, as they spoiled her. The sadness in his yellow eyes, the angry tension in his shoulders, and the harshness in his words when he spoke to people said it all. Oh, Kei was polite, so polite when he needed to that he came off as rude. There was anger when he handled Tohru, never hit her, never yelled, but he could never love her like a sibling, his actions toward her were rather parental. "I know and for that I am sorry. I just don't know where my wife and I went wrong with our children."
"No-one ever does, grandfather. I can't blame you for their disgusting actions though. I'll take Tohru to school, pick her up until she either doesn't want me to or I can't because of work." He grouched, as he grew he found that Tohru for all her grades was rather air-headed and he couldn't stand being around the girl for longer than a few hours. She looked like a mix of her parents, so much like her mother with her father's coloring. He hated them both. "You will visit?" The older man asked. "When I can, Megumi might come by from time to time also." Ah, the strange boyfriend. The child gave him the creeps but kei-kun seemed to adore the younger male. "Well let me know when you start looking, I want you to be safe."
"Sure old man."
