October 19th, 3 months before the Genin Exams

In the village hidden in the leaves, Konohagakure, inside the Hokage's office, Hiruzen Sarutobi puffed out a cloud of smoke before addressing the man kneeled in front of him. "How come the teams keep failing, hm?" he asked with curiosity, confused as to why the teams he continues assigning to a certain man keep failing the dreaded "bell test."

The copy-nin Hatake Kakashi sighed, "Hokage-sama with all due respect these teams don't know a thing about teamwork… it's as if they don't teach it at the academy anymore."

"You're still going to take another team next year, Kakashi." the Sandaime declared with worry but at the same time authority in his voice, not wanting to give Kakashi an escape.

"But sir-"

"Kakashi, enough," Sarutobi interrupted with anger evident in his tone. He was tired of Kakashi going against him and he wasn't standing for it any longer. "On order of the council you'll take on the last Uchiha, Sasuke, and even if he fails you'll take him as your personal pupil and teach him teamwork, is that understood?"

"Of course Hokage-sama, but may I make a request?" Kakashi said with a slight worry his request wouldn't be conceded, seeing as it wasn't something that was commonly allowed, even if the people that mainly asked for this were clan heads and distinguished jonins.

The Hokage nodded his head once signifying Kakashi to continue.

"Can he graduate early? I would like him on my team."

Hiruzen groaned, he was already expecting this but to let him graduate so early? He still had his doubts but maybe this was the only way to get Kakashi to take on a team. After a long pause he finally spoke, "fine, but he will remain in Konohamaru-kun's class until Sasukes' class takes their graduation exams, which he will then take with them."

Kakashi's eyes widened, he wasn't expecting the third Hokage to agree so easily; he didn't even expect him to agree at all, but he decided to just agree, so as to not make him regret his decision, "Hai, Hokage-sama." is all the gray haired man responded.

"Dismissed," Sandaime declared. But before Kakashi could Shunshin away he stopped him. "Oh and Kakashi? Train him well, he has to be prepared for the exams."

"Hai."

11 P.M. Hatake Clan Compound

Kakashi walked into compound to let Naruto know the news that would surely excite him. But when he came into the living room he saw Naruto asleep on the couch covered in his orange blanket. It was a cute sight. Naruto actually did this every time Kakashi couldn't put him to bed at 10. It wasn't a good habit, but he was used to Kakashi putting him to bed.

Kakashi sighed as he picked up Naruto carefully, who thankfully was already in his pajamas and took him to bed. He could always tell him he was graduating early tomorrow morning.

9 A.M. Hatake Family Compound

Early in the morning, inside Kakashi's house, he was preparing breakfast as he moved around in the kitchen, he knew Naruto was half asleep as he saw him before he came down, so he called out, "Naru, breakfast's ready!"

A few seconds later Kakashi heard small footsteps coming down the stairs. While he was putting down Naruto's plate of cereal on the small table he could see on the corner of his eye a small and sleepy silver-haired child rubbing his eyes and yawning.

"Good morning sunshine," said Kakashi.

"Morning daddy," replied Naruto lazily as he slowly took a seat in front of his plate. He was moving sluggishly and sleepily, obviously tired somewhat.

Kakashi looked at him amused, he had the perfect plan to wake him up though; he called out his name to get his attention and when Naruto looked at him he continued, "so Naru-chan… I have some news for you." he said with a small smile.

Naruto instantly got excited and it seemed like all the sleepiness had left him from one second to the other; he started bouncing up and down on his seat and began to pester the silver haired ninja, "What is it? What is it? What is it? Tell me pleaseeee."

"Hai, hai calm down… anyways the news is that you're going to be graduating the academy this year, a little earlier than expected but yeah…" said Kakashi, mumbling the last part to himself, knowing his Naru would be jumping up and down in excitement; even more than he currently was doing anyway.

"Huh?" is all the child said. Well that was unexpected.

"I said you're graduating early, I'm going to be training you harder than ever for the next 2 and a half months. The fifth of January you're going to be taking the exam with the current graduating class." Kakashi repeated slowly, making sure Naruto understood.

"Oh! Thanks daddy!" with that said Naruto jumped out of his and into his adoptive fathers arms (not that he knew Kakashi wasn't his actual father).

After a few seconds of embracing each other, Naruto pulled away with a sad look on his face, "does that mean I have to leave Kono-kun's class?" Naruto was pretty close to his little friends and he clearly didn't want to leave them behind.

"Not yet, no. You can stay with your friends until you have to take the Genin exams." Kakashi assured him, trying to get him to calm down a little; truth is, the genin exams weren't that far away, so even if he would get some more time with his friends it wasn't long, and he wouldn't get to see them as much afterwards.

Naruto brightened up a bit at this. The next almost three months would be hard on him. But kage-bunshins would certainly help and Kakashi knew that.

January 5th, Academy Classroom

The class was currently in utter chaos. Everyone was excited about the exams to come. Iruka got tired of the noise quickly so he decided to step in. Using his "big head jutsu" he shouted "STAY QUIET!" and so they did. It was pretty effective against children.

Iruka gave a small cough and said, "now that everyone is silent I want to tell you there's going to be a new student here today. He is here for the exams." He walked over to the door and slid it open and in came a person that caused a mostly common opinion among the class.

"Kawaii…" was the thought on most of the female population in the class (a few males too). But, a few others had other opinions.

"But he's just a brat Iruka-sensei!" exclaimed Kiba Inuzuka. Naruto blushed and looked down at this. He didn't like being reminded about his size or age, he already has it bad enough in his old class, as he was one of the smallest there.

"Silence Kiba, introduce yourself please Naru-chan." said Iruka, placing a hand on the boy's back as a way to encourage him to speak.

Naruto shyly looked up at Iruka and then the rest of the class, he wasn't used to speaking in front of people 3 years older than himself… it was damn scary. "Um, I'm Naruto Hatake and uh I'm here for the exams." Then the questions came like an avalanche.

"Naruto will only answer one question," said Iruka. "Let's see… what is your question Shikamaru?"

The boy in question, with spiky black hair pulled up in a ponytail, who was lazily holding his head with one hand and who had his other hand raised put it down and asked what everyone else was thinking, "How old are you?"

And thus, Naruto answered, "I turned 9 in October."

And chaos ensued.

That was just a quick introductory episode. Tell me what you think and if you want it to continue.
