…August 31st…
Haruhi had to stop herself from rubbing her eyes. She was currently sitting in President Suoh's office as he conversed with her father. They were finalizing her graduation from Ouran Academy. It had been a long two weeks sinse Dumbledore had shown up on their door step. She had hardly slept. Between finish this school year and taking the test for the next two years, shopping for Hogwarts, learning about the magical world, and the Host club it was a wonder how she was still awake.
She was surprised when she saw a kite flight past the window. She gave a small smile. She swore the dang thing had been following her over the two weeks. She had never seen who was flying it but it seemed to follow the mood of Tamaki-senpai almost to a T. With all the trouble they had with the newspaper club, then the Honey-sempai situation, and finally the twins fight. It was a surprise she was still alive at this point.
She must have drifted off for next she knew her Father was shaking her awake. "Why don't you head home. You've had a long two weeks, and I have a few last things I need to finish here."
Haruhi gave a tired nod before standing bowing to the President, "Thank you for all you have done for me these past 3 months."
He inclined his head towards her, "We have been honored to have such a student as yourself. You may leave."
Once out the door she started walking down the hall. She was about to round the first corner when a shadow loomed out in front of her. She gave a sign before looking up. "What do you want Kyoka-senpai?"
"You are skipping club-activities, which according to your contract increase your debt by…."
He didn't get any further as she held a paper up to his face. He had to take a step back so that he could read it. His eyes grew fractionally as he read her diploma. "My contact stated that I had to work until either I worked off the debt or until my graduation of Ouran. Seeing as I have graduated that means that I have not skipped club activity. And I will remind you your signature is on the bottom stating that you agreed to these terms."
As he went to open his mouth she continued on. "Also, so as not to make you feel that I have in any way ripped the club off, I have created a more effective tea that also will be more cost effective compared to the one that you have been using up until this point." With this she placed the paper in his hand and started to walk away. "Now if you will forgive me I have a long day ahead of me and I haven't slept much this week."
With that she was gone. Kyoya stared blankly at the paper in his hand before he opened it. He briefly skimmed the context his eye brows raised. He wouldn't know until he tested it but it seemed what she said was true. He turned to look down the hall she had vanished down. Pushing up his glasses he chuckled. It seemed he would be very busy tonight.
…September 1st…
Ryoli had brought Haruhi to platform 9 ¾ just as the train pulled in. Other parents and students wouldn't be here for another two hours, but Dumbledore had wanted Ryoli there early. As he couldn't take Haruhi with him he was having to drop her off early. Wait not Ryoli but Severus. At school she was supposed to call him Professor Snape. They had decided it was for her safety that at school they pretended not to be related. She could tell how much this hurt her Father but also saw in his eyes how he saw that it was for her safety that they do this.
She gave him a quick hug. Which caused him to stiffen for a moment before he gave her a quick hug in return. Both of them had never been very physically affectionate but she could tell he was going to need it if he was going to make it through this year.
With a final nod he apparated away. There was nothing more to be said. Over the last two weeks they had worked out everything she needed to know. With a yawn she made her way to the train. Last night had not been enough to catch her up on her sleep, and with the time difference she was doing even worse. She started at the end of the train hoping that if she slept here it would take longer for other students to find her. She even found a compartment with another soul who seemed to have the same thoughts that she did.
He appeared to be around the age of her Father, though he appeared even more tired than she did. He also seemed to be wearing older robes that had seen better days. She hesitated on the outside before deciding if she slept in the same compartment it would deter even more people from coming in. Also, her Father had placed some spells on her to protect her from harm from others. He had been so proud of them.
She slid the door open quietly. "Excuse me. Do you mind if I sleep here as well?"
The man seemed to crack a sleepy eye at her as if he had just fallen asleep. He also seemed to take a deep breath, before giving a tired nod. She gave a tired smile back before sitting down across from him taking her robes out of her shrunken trunk and using them as a pillow. With that she fell asleep.
…
She drifted back awake to notice that the train was swaying beneath her. What had woken her was the door of the compartment opening and three strangers around her age standing there looking unsure. When the girl of the group noticed they had woken her she gave an apologetic smile.
"Sorry we are looking for a compartment but all the others are full. Can we join you?"
Haruhi gave a nod before sitting up. They shuffled in and took seats. The black-haired boy taking the seat next to her sleeping company. Who Haruhi noticed was still sleeping. She rubbed her eyes and wished she was.
The girl next to her held out her hand. "I'm Hermione Granger, third year Gryffindor. These are my friends Ron Weasley," she pointed at the red head on her farther side, "and Harry Potter. They are also third year Gryffindor's."
At the mention of Harry Potter Haruhi looked at the boy across from her who seemed to be uncomfortable with Hermione pointing him out. So, this was her cousin. She shock Hermione's hand and nodded at the two boys.
"So what's your name? I've never seen you around before. You are clearly too old to be a first year. What house are you in?" Hermione said.
"Fujioka, Haruhi. I am a first year." Hermione seemed about to launch into another round of questions. But she had practice with the twins and Tamaki. "Pardon me but I came from Japan this morning and I'm still trying to catch up with some much-needed sleep."
That caused Hermione to open her mouth for another round of questions but Harry stepped in to save her. "Hermione let her sleep. You have all year to ask her the questions you want."
With that she closed her mouth. Haruhi sent a tired grateful smile his way which he returned before resting her head against the window and fell asleep again.
What woke her next was the cold. She felt herself shiver as an unearthly chill filled the air. Opening her eyes, she was surprised that it was dark. They also seemed to have gained several more people. They were arguing with each other and seemed to by trying to find a seat.
Haruhi looked up to where she felt eyes on her, avoiding the host club took skill. The gentleman across from her seemed to be trying to see her better. Suddenly his head whipped towards the door, "Quite." Everyone in the compartment went silent. There was a noise before a shivering light appeared lighting the compartment.
The gentleman looked over the students pausing on her. "Lilith?" before shaking his head. "Stay where you are." He stood and headed towards the door but not before it opened reviling a tall form covered in a cloak. With it the temperature seemed to drop even further. This along with the fact that the temperature dropping lead Haruhi to one conclusion. This was a dementor. The wizard newspaper had led to her looking them up. She felt a frown come on her face as she glared at the vile creature. Her eyes were drawn away as Harry fell to the floor screaming. A flash of bright light drew her eyes to the gentleman who seemed to have summoned a silvery white substance that pushed the dementor out the door. With a glace behind him he followed it outside the door as well.
As Harry's friends tried to wake him. Haruhi pulled her legs up so as not to be hit by the flailing boy. She knew that until he woke up there wasn't much they could do for him. In the distance she could have sworn she heard someone yelling out that he needed to go and make sure his daughter was okay. She shook her head there was no way on a train full of kids someone had said that.
The lights came on the same time the train started to move forward. Shortly the gentleman came back in looking even more tired than he had earlier. He introduced himself as Professor Lupin. A quick round of introductions ensued. The other two that had joined them where Neville Longbottom, and Ron's sister Ginny Weasley. When they got to her Professor Lupin seemed to once again stare at her a little longer and looked confused when she said her name almost like it was the wrong name.
"Professor how far away are we from Hogwarts?" Ginny the youngest asked.
"I'm afraid that we are another two hours at least away."
As Harry began to stir though he turned his eyes of concern to him.
Haruhi listened as Harry told them what he saw, was feed Chocolate, before the Professor handed some to everyone. Haruhi held it under her nose and smelled in deeply. There was nothing foreign that she could detect. As she took a bite she looked up to see the Professor looking at her strangely again. She tilted her head. He seemed to realize he was staring and said he was going to check on the rest of the students.
As the adrenaline wore off Haruhi found she was even more tired when she had climbed on the train. Grabbing her robes, she once again placed them under her head and fell into a deep sleep.
Hermione woke her up telling her they were close the school and needed to get dressed. The boys had left and where getting dressed in the bathroom at the end of the cart. She finished just as the train came to a stop.
The three friends quickly left the train. Leaving Haruhi half asleep trying to remember what she was supposed to do. Luckily Ginny and Neville hadn't left.
"Sorry but do you know where first years are supposed to go?" They both got wide eyes.
"I'm so sorry I thought you were older than me!" Ginny quickly took Haruhi's hand and lead her towards a giant of a man yelling first years.
"Well I am older but this is my first year at a magic school."
Ginny looked puzzled at that but kept smiling. "Well in that case fill free to ask me if you have any questions!"
With a cheerful wave goodbye Ginny left her to rejoin Neville who was waiting on the outskirts of the first years. He gave her an encouraging smile and a wave as well before Ginny pulled him away. Haruhi was about to turn back before out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw a tall imposing black-haired figure with a small blonde sitting on his shoulders. When she turned for a better look though they were gone. A shiver began to climb her spine. There was no way they were here.
Haruhi didn't have a chance to think more about it though as a large hand fell on her shoulder. She looked up to find the giant looking down at her. "You must be Haruhi I was told you would be riding the boats with us. We are loading them know and I don't want to leave you behind."
She gave a quick bow towards him. "I'm so sorry I was lost in thought."
He gave a deep belly laugh that made her smile, "No harm done. I'm Rubeus Hagrid but you can call me Hagrid."
With this she was led away. The boat ride was quite Haruhi sat with just one other girl who had introduced herself as Astoria Greengrass.
As the castle came into sight she found herself trying to take it all in. Astoria seemed to be doing the same as the calm outward domineer seemed to fade. Haruhi smiled. The smile on Astoria's face had been one of the reasons she had enjoyed the Host Club. It made her life a little better by helping others.
After a quick march to the castle they were handed off to her Father. He gave all of them a sneer as she scanned them he only rested for half a second more on her before finishing his scan. "Looks like nothing but fouls again for this year. Wait here and make yourselves look presentable!" He turned allowing his robes to flare dramatically behind him before storming off.
Astoria leaned over then. "That was Severus Snape. He taught here 13 years ago before vanishing. He was one of the youngest to get a mastery in potions."
Haruhi cast a sideways glance and could see a look of semi worship on her face. "Are you interested in Potions?"
She gave a nod, "I've always found it fascinating how they work and would love to become a master myself someday."
Haruhi gave a nod as well. "I agree."
Astoria turned and looked at her then with a real smile on her face.
They didn't have a chance to say more though as her father chose that moment to come back. "Line up in alphabetical order." He gave a growl as it took them ten minutes to do as they asked. His eyes narrowed when they landed on her. Grabbing her by the arm he pulled her out of the line. Lowering his voice, he spoke to her. "You will go in last and be sorted last with this group. I will need to see you after the feast so don't even think about slipping away." He then pushed her towards the end of the line.
Astoria looked towards her a little worried, but Haruhi just gave her a reassuring smile. Even though they had talked about that he would treat her like every other student it could still be a little shocking.
They were quickly marched in. As they passed one table Haruhi almost gave herself whip lash at the sight of two red heads. Her eyes narrowed as she looked closer. Even though they looked like the Hitachiin brothers, she quickly gave a sign of relief as she realized they weren't. What was wrong with her how could she be seeing the host club around every corner when she knew for a fact they were back in Japan.
As her father explained the sorting and the hat sang a song. Haruhi looked around and noticed that both Harry and Hermione were missing. She also noticed a girl who looked about her age and bore strong resemblance to Astoria.
Astoria ended up being shorted into Ravenclaw. As the line grew shorter and shorter, Haruhi's feeling of unease only grew. Something was wrong, but she couldn't seem to place what it was.
At last the first years where done. As the headmaster stood another round of applause happened. Several people including the twin read heads where casting her curious glances. "I suppose as you have noticed we have another to be sorted with our first years. Even though she maybe older than most first years, she will be sorted with them as she has yet to learn magic. I would like to invite Fujioka, Haruhi to come up."
The room was filled with curiosity as she walked up. If she hadn't been looking at her father she would have missed the small reassuring smile on his face. As the hat fell over her eyes she felt the light brush of magic.
"How interesting, you seem to come from a mixed background. A mother from Gryffindor, and a father from Slytherin, but it seems to me that the place for you is..."
"RAVENCLAW." The hat seemed to yell out load. As she had seen other students she took the hat off, gave a bow to her father, then went to the table that was cheering the loudest. Astoria had cleared a place for her so she quickly sat with her.
Once again, the head master stood. "I know you are all hungry but we have one last thing to do before we can eat. We have six individuals who have come from overseas to further their education. They will stay with us for at least this year and as such we will sort them so they may have the full experience Hogwarts has to offer."
The dread that had been building in Haruhi's stomach all day grew with every word of the headmaster. As he held his hand out to the door all color left her face as the door open and roses of every color can pouring into the Greathall.
