Finally conquering the Grimm monsters that are Windows 10, my attention span, and this story.
The day after Jaune's match with Brawnz from Shade, he received a call that he was expecting, but wasn't necessarily looking forward to taking: a call from his family. He was ready to head out to the library to do some homework after breakfast when he picked up his scroll. "JAUNE BAPTISTE ARC! Do you have ANY IDEA how worried we have been about you?!" a voice railed at the leader of team JNPR from the other side of the scroll. The blond knight visibly flinched, as he went ramrod straight. His team mates, expressed their shock in various ways: Pyrrha proceeded to launch some pens into the wall via accidently activating her semblance due to shock; Ren jumping out of the seat at his desk, hitting the ceiling; and Nora falling out of her bed, rolling, and hitting her head on the bed opposite of hers.
"H-hi mom" Jaune nervously greeted his mother. "I know you wanted to be a hunter, young man, but you should have contacted us earlier! Also, how the HELL did you get into Beacon when you didn't even go to any primary schools for huntsman?!" his mother bellowed at him as she interrogated him. "I will tell you about that some other time, mom! How would you like to meet my teammates?" Jaune inquired her, desperately attempting to maneuver the subject onto territory that was far safer for him in their conversation.
"Hi Mrs. Arc! I am Jaune's teammate, Nora! He is my bestest friend, behind Ren, of course! He makes pancakes that are almost as good as Ren's, and he makes all sorts of other good things for us to eat when we aren't at the cafeteria! Oh, and he is great at thinking up activities for us to do when we aren't studying or training or in class! He also has the highest scores in the leadership class and is the best at coming up with strategies for us in team battles, even though he doesn't have cool names for the tactics like team RWBY does!" Nora stated, starting to go onto one of her massive dialogs. Everyone knew what the intent was: to distract and deflect attention away from her fearless leader. However, Jaune knew he would have to deal with his mother; therefore, this was not the best time for Nora's protective behavior, as well meaning as it was.
"Thanks, Nora, but I think I can handle this" Jaune told her. Little did he realize that Pyrrha has started to make her way over behind him while he was distracted by Nora. "Look mom, I understand that I got into Beacon even though you never wanted me to, but this was my dream! To help people and be like my great great grandad!" Jaune told her. His mother was about to start in on him again, when she noticed a tall, red haired person behind him. "Jaune, who is that, and why is she hovering behind you?" she asked.
"Hello, Mrs. Arc. I am your son's teammate and partner. I must say that I think you should hear him, and by extension, us, out. He is really the keystone to holding our team together" Pyrrha told her crush's mother. "If I may, he has been a great help to every one of us. You could even say he not only is the glue that holds us all together, but that he also the key to a lot of our victories in team battles and Grimm elimination excursions" she informed the older woman.
Jaune's mother gave Pyrrha a questioning look, but then her face returned to a more passive expression. "Ah, so you must be….. Pyrrha Nikos, if my Vert is correct. The one that is Jaune's partner? I take it you are the main reason why his skills have improved enough stay in Beacon, as well as why he has Aura now" she stated to the redhead.
"Hey mom! Don't pick on Pyrrha! She is my partner and best friend!" Jaune stated, coming to the defense of his partner. "Please don't drag my friends into our family disagreement" he chastised her.
"*Sigh* You are right, Jaune. I am sorry for getting you involved in the issues of our family" his mother told his teammates. "I am Meredith Arc. I will be sure to make my rudeness up to you folks personally when I arrive at Vale" she told them. "Your father has some vacation time saved up. He and I are going to come to see you with some of your sisters next week. I expect you to properly explain everything then" she told him.
After that very tense conversation with the mother of the leader of team JNPR, they headed to the gym for some strength and weapons training. Nora did some weight training, followed by "wave" combat simulation against the combat bots. Ren ran on the treadmill for a few hours. He then practiced his strikes on dummies and followed that with one of his nutritional shakes. Pyrrha practiced against the bots while Jaune did weight training, then gave him tips while he practiced against the training dummies, improving his striking and muscle memory.
They then had lunch, more training and studying, dinner, more training and studying, relaxation, and lights out. The rest of the week was relatively calm until Jaune's mother called to inform him they would be visiting the weekend of the next week.
Of course, this news quickly spread though Beacon at the same speed which Ruby goes through cookies: lightspeed. Velvet dragged Coco out to get a new wardrobe so that she could "accidently" run into Jaune's family while they were out. Ruby also begged Weiss to help her find some new clothes. This immediately drew the attention of the monochrome members of team RWBY, as she rarely went clothes shopping of her own volition, and never without Yang.
Yang, meanwhile, dragged Blake out to find her own wardrobe. She had to find a way to impress her future in-laws. She found some clothing that covered more than she usually wore (something that shocked Blake thoroughly that Yang would do), while still accentuating her curves. One of the reasons she brought her favorite kitty cat is Blake was quite skilled at picking more moderate yet flattering outfits.
Pyrrha was probably the only one not freaking out over her wardrobe. She had an assortment of casual dresses that were conservative yet aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, she had seen how Jaune's mother had sized her up. His mother had displayed the subtle, subconscious mannerisms that indicated that she was analyzing the qualities of her son's partner. Pyrrha had studied the art of combat, and that included the unspoken behaviors that indicate what maneuvers they were about to make, whether it was where they were going to reposition themselves, where they were going to strike, and so on. It also happened to be quite useful to read the mannerisms of those around her, such as how her husbando eyed her up when he thought she wasn't looking. This would truly be a watershed moment for the young huntress, and she was prepared for battle.
The week came and went in the blink of an eye for most. For Jaune, it was agonizingly slow. He felt sympathy towards people who were awaiting execution for crimes, as he knew he was about to experience some unpleasant friction on the familial front.
The next week wasn't much better, although Jaune did find the motivation to work 5 times as hard on his training (with some motivational help from Nora, of course). Part of the reason why he did so was because he wanted to prove to his family he had what it took to be a huntsman. Part of it was due to the fact he would have 6 VERY angry women he was about to confront, some of whom were trained huntresses, and he might be required to defend himself (probably not, but never hurts to be prepared). A contributing factor, though, was that Nora decided that Jaune would show them he was "the bestest Arc warrior ever." While he appreciated her enthusiasm, he took umbrage with some of her…. methods of forging him into said hunter. Nora was the type to push you to the limit. The limit of death, that is. Though she was well intentioned, she could be quite intense.
The day came when his family were arriving from Ansel to see him. It was after classes on a Thursday, and he had just gotten out of classes, and headed into vale to wait for his family on the airship docks, along with Pyrrha, Nora and Ren, for support. He was fine coming alone. However, Pyrrha was adamant that she be there to meet the family of her best friend, partner, and leader. Nora and Ren insisted that they be allowed to come along to vouch about the quality of his leadership, and his worth as a huntsman.
However, unbeknownst to team JNPR, there were several other young ladies stationed throughout the city of Vale, intent on "conveniently" running into their favorite blond and his family, desirous of acknowledgement as worthy of being his future wife. They had all sought out new wardrobes. Ruby had sought out something that made her seem older, more mature, and more sophisticated; Velvet acquired an outfit that was quite a bit more light, breezy, and feminine; while Yang had procured clothing that, while feminine and somewhat revealing, covered up a lot more than she usually wore. She wanted to come off as "bodacious yet refined" and not "complete and total hussy" after all.
After his family begrudgingly accepted his decision and reasoning of becoming a huntsman. His mother, father, and 5 of his seven sisters were able to come to see him. They all were distinct in appearance, yet also very similar. The biggest similarities were their height, the rough eye color, and of course, the hair color.
The youngest, Rose Arc, was 6 inches taller than Nora, platinum blonde hair that reached her shoulders, and green eyes. She was a year younger than him as well. She wore pink and black clothing in a style that could only be best described as "girly goth", a weird combination of punk/goth and cuteness that was akin to the one Mistral show "Greetings Feline."
His twin sister, Joan-Fonce-Gris, looked exactly like him, if he were born a woman. She wore a blue V necked t-shirt, form fitting jeans, and had bronze bracelets for accessories. She immediately grabbed ahold of Jaune's arm and never let go, glaring daggers at the two girls on his team.
Next was his two older sisters who were identical twins. Blau and Blanc Arc were slightly taller than him (which was something in and of itself). They both were accomplished huntresses, though the equipment of each were as different as night and day. They had come in their combat uniforms, rushed to make it to try to talk their "dear baby brother" out of making "the worst decision he could ever make." They gave off the aura of somewhat overbearing but ultimately nurturing sisters.
Blau wore a combat dress with long sleeves with a length that ended halfway down her shin. Said dress was a vibrant blood red in color. The top was covered in light brown metal plates over the chest, stomach, shoulder, and forearms. Her shoes were short hiking boots with retractable metal spikes for dealing with icy terrain or climbing trees. Her hair was cut into a short pixie cut, and she had a small blue bow on each side of her head, just in front of her ears. The weapon she carried was a combination anti-materiel rifle and billhook, named "Death's Kiss."
Blanc was totally on the opposite end of the spectrum as far as equipment and style went. She wore a heavy long-sleeved shirt of a lavender color. It was a dark lavender in color. Over it she sported a lighter hooded shirt colored white. Yet on top of that as a moderately heavy black cuirass. Her hood also had armor on the top, and what looked to incorporate some sort of mecha shift applications to it. She also had heavy armor on her forearms, as well as on the upper legs of her black pants. Her footwear was heavy black combat boots, armored with white plates. Her hair was quite long, and even with the elaborate bun she had, it came down to just below her waist in what could be described as one of the most impressive ponytails one could ever lay eyes on. Her weapon was no less impressive. A combination of light machine gun and dust-edged sword, alongside a heavy tower shield. The name of the sword was "Liberte", while the shield was named "Morte."
The last was the third child of the Arc family, Violette Arc. She looked quite a bit like Yang, albeit slightly taller, with straight hair that was pulled up in the back and then cascading straight down. Her eyes were blue (as were most of the Arc children), and her hair was a mustard yellow. She wore a long yellow dress, a wide straw hat, and black shoes.
Along with the gaggle of young women from the Arc household were the Patriarch and Matriarch of the household, Nathaniel Argent Arc and Soleil Arc (it should be noted to NEVER call Jaune's parents the Patriarch/Matriarch of the family, else all the awful puns shall spring forth for a short eternity from the blonde brawler). Soleil did not look the part of a middle-aged woman who had birthed 8 children (she still looked to be in her late twenties). She was roughly 2 inches shorter than her son, giving her an impressive 5' 11" in height. She was wearing a red blouse, white jacket, and jeans, as well as some sensible yet stylish sneakers. Nathaniel towered over the group at six and a half feet tall, with straw colored hair that was just starting to see touches of grey. He was a hunter, and his physique showed it. He had come dressed in a blue dress shirt, khakis, as well as black dress shoes.
They were moving through town, casually talking. The situation as they moved along became less tense between the hooded knight of Beacon and his family as they talked through some of the issues they had regarding his decision and their attempts to dissuade him from his chosen path. Occasionally one of his sisters would break off from the group to check out some item displayed in a shop or street stall, which would cause the procession of yellow to stop until the curiosity of said sibling was stated.
This pattern continued until they passed a stall that was selling chocolate on the street. Here is where the first group of "senpai predators" were lying in wait to ambush the gang of sunglow. This was, of course, Yang and her partner in crime, Blake.
"Oh, hey Jaune! Fancy seeing you here! What are you doing out on this nice day?" Yang asked in her best impression of an innocent-and-not-totally-a-tease-girl. She was dressed in a sky-blue sundress, black belt and black dress shoes (to impress Jaune's family, of course). "Oh, just spending some time with my family. Trying to spend some time with the and get rid of any doubts they have about me being a hunter" Jaune informed her. "Oh, really? Can I tag along? I could tell them about that time you killed that Ursa at the breach, or the time you lead your team to take down those beowolves during that training assignment" she offered.
This action inadvertently drew some ire towards Jaune from his family. However, this gave her an in to assuage their fears about their son and brother's competency. Jaune, seeing that he was lacking options in an increasingly hostile situation, quickly agreed. "Sure, just so long as you don't tell too many embarrassing stories about my time at Beacon" he told her.
They continued to meander through the town. Yang was getting along relatively well with his family, especially Violette. Their personalities were similar, yet different enough to minimize risk of friction between the two women.
Then the convoy turned the corner near a baked goods shop. They were about to pick up their next two girls who were waiting for an opportune moment to introduce themselves to the family of "the most eligible bachelor of team JNPR." "Oh, hello Jaune. How are you today? This is your family, I presume?" a particular faunus girl asked her junior. She had picked out an orange blouse and form fitting black pants for this occasion, and Coco, her cohort, was wearing a cream-colored top with green form fitting pants.
"Oh! Hi Velvet! Yes, this is my family! How did you know?" Jaune inquired. Somehow, he missed the sound of a few hands contacting a few foreheads behind him. "Well, they do look a lot like you" Velvet replied with a soft chuckle. After a brief conversation, Velvet and Coco had joined the group.
It was starting to get close to midday, and the group started to make their way towards a popular pizzeria in the downtown section of Vale. As they passed by a bookstore, Ruby and Weiss exited. Ruby was wearing a red blouse and a long black skirt that reached her ankles, as well as sensible dress shoes (Weiss helped her pick out everything) on this day. They needed to change locations last minute to intercept Jaune and his entourage. However, while they were waiting the last few minutes for them to pass by, Ruby had taken it upon herself to purchase the latest X-Ray and Vav comic. "Oh, hey Jaune! Your family visiting?" Ruby asked her best friend, next to Weiss, of course. "Yeah, they are. What are you up to?" he asked her.
"Oh, you know… just buying the latest comic. We should talk about it sometime! I don't want to impose on your family since they came all this way to visit you" Ruby asked, making sure to give her best puppy dog eyes to everyone assembled. "It's alright, you can tag along. That option was pretty much out from the get-go, so it isn't like it will hurt to have two more of Jaune's friends come along. The more the merrier, after all" Blau told the young Rose.
As they entered the restaurant, Yang told Ruby "Hey Rubes! You should see the pictures that Jaune's mom has of him as a kid! I can see why he is so attached to them! She is a textbook example of how to be a MatriArc!" This elicited a choir of groans, and, surprisingly, two chuckles.
With that, this chapter is done, and the hunt for WHO TOLD YANG THAT PUN IDEA shall commence.
