The colors aren't sudden.

They come gradually, slowly overtaking her.

First it's the green of his eyes after their first kiss. She doesn't realize that it's green (she's never actually seen green before so it's nearly impossible to put color to name) and she barely has time to register it before it's gone.

But then, as soon as the door to her apartment is closed and he is on his way home, everything green is suddenly green.

On their third date, she brings a book small enough to fit in her purse.

A color book.

Usually she isn't like this and wait for them to make the first move.

(Or to see color).

But this is different and she needs some sort of closure. She needs some sort of proof that what she saw is real.

And if he doesn't see them, they can both move on in their lives, knowing that they tried.

The colors do this to people.

As soon as she sits down at the table, she pulls out the book.

"Green. Your eyes are green," She says. No how was your day or hi Chase.

And she doesn't even feel impolite.

He grins right through her anxiety and pulls out his own copy of the color book.

"And your hair is brown."

By then, she's grinning madly.

He looks around the room then back at them. They're extremely underdressed in their casual street clothing.

"Wanna get out of here?" He stage whispers, eliciting an unlady like snort from her.

But he doesn't even seem to notice.

They both stand up and he takes her hand as they stroll out of the restaurant and suddenly their strolling through San Francisco hand in hand.

The first thing he did when he got home from their second date was rush to get the book of colors his mother had gifted him on his tenth birthday from the bottom drawer of his dresser.

What had once merely been a book of varying shades of gray now showcased one lone color.

Brown.

Her hair is brown he reminded himself.

He picks her up from her apartment, taking her to a restaurant much fancier than either of them had expected.

And unlike when he was dating Adelaide, she doesn't blame him for her underdressing.

As soon as they have both sat down, she pulls a book out of her purse.

"Green," She says and suddenly he feels as though he may burst. "Your eyes are green."

His face is overtaken by a grin as he pulls out his own copy of the book from his jacket pocket.

"And your hair is brown."

And suddenly, she's grinning too.

He looks around at the other couples then back at themselves. "Wanna get out of here?" He stage whispers.

She laughs and suddenly he feels like he's in love.

He grabs her hand and the moonlit streets of San Francisco beckon them forward.
