Chapter 29:

Arizona Robbins, December 25th 2015:

For as long as she could remember, Arizona has always been the strong one, wether it is physically or mentally. Being the older sister her job since her brother was born was to protect him, then with Callie, she made it her duty to take care of her at all coast, at first out of friendship and later on out of love.

Even if later when she grew up Daniel became a bully and a monster he managed to teach her a few useful things such as being a good man in a storm.

Arizona was always the strong one and she liked it that way. However, laying down on Callie's guest bed, looking at the ceiling she felt nothing like the strong person she grew up to be. She felt miserable and weak.

When she was done at the hospital and the doctors told her she was free to go, she was about to head to her place when Callie insisted that she comes to her place. Arizona could see that the brunette was still a little bit shaking and she knew that when Callie is in this state of worry for someone she needs to have them in her sight at all times and this time time was no different. Even if the only thing Arizona wanted to do right now was to be alone, she still accepted Callie's offer and went to her place. After all it was her duty to take care of Callie in any way she could. So she called her mother rand told her that she was fine and that shell tell her what happened when she'll she her tomorrow at Callie's, hung up and followed Callie to her car.

The ride home to Callie's was silent, neither of them knowing what to say after the event of the day. Such a great way to spend Christmas Eve. Thankfully the ride wasn't long and when they arrived, calla's parents were waiting for them. Arizona was glad that they understood that right now wasn't the time to ask questions. They just told her that they were glad she was okay, said goodbye to their daughter and left for their hotel. Soon after Callie showed Arizona to the guest room and where everything she might need was before telling that she was just in the room upstairs if she needed anything and leaving her alone.

It pained Arizona to think this but she was kind of glad that Callie didn't want to talk right now. It looked like she still knew Arizona pretty well and the thought alone made Arizona's heart beat a little bit faster.

That is how she found herself wide awake at 3am, in her ex-girlfriend's house. The only thing making the situation a little bit better was the fact that her little girl was sound asleep not far from her for the first time and that she'll be with her on Christmas.

Last night was a shitty night and it showed her just how weak she had become and she couldn't stand it. She was lucky that Mark intervened when he did, just thinking about what could've happened mades her shiver and close her eyes trying to get the thoughts away.

Trying to fall back asleep she promised herself she'll never let herself be weak and vulnerable like she had been last time, if not for her then for Callie and their daughter.

Calliope torres, December 25th 2015:

She tried to sleep, she really did. She tried to ignore the fact that the love of her life was sleeping in her guest bedroom downstairs, just a few paces away from her. She really tried but it didn't work, she kept tossing and turning in bed, her mind going a mile per hour not allowing her to shut it down and just sleep. God knows she needed the sleep. Just thinking about what was awaiting her tomorrow was enough to make her groan and turn around once more.

She pretended she didn't know what took over her last night, to drop everything and just run away the second she heard about what happened to Arizona but in reality she knew but she didn't want to admit it even to herself in the safety of her bedroom. She didn't want to admit that she was scared shitless she was once again going to lose the blonde, especially so soon after just getting her back in hers and in Sofia's life.

Well fuck, now she admitted it.

But now she is here, in bed, with thoughts of the blonde keeping her awake. She thinks about everything and nothing at the same time. About the first time she saw her but also the last time she did. The first time she knew she was in love with her and the first time she told her. About the first and the last time the blonde told her she loved her. About how she keeps telling herself everyday that she doesn't love Arizona but love Kate when she perfectly knows that it isn't true. It's her that she loves, it's always been her, it'll always be her. There's only ever been one person for her and this person is sleepy just under her room.

It would be so easy to just forget about everything that happened that made them be to where they are right now and just get up and to the blonde's room and do everything she never thought she'll be able to do again, especially after what happened last night. But things aren't so simple and they are both still broken and being together will only hurt them more in the long run.

The only thing keeping her in bed is the fact that if she ever allows herself to ever be with Arizona again, she wants it to be when they are both ready and will get through anything that comes their way together. She wants to do things right for all three of them.

She fights with herself for a while before she hears a knock on her door making her jump slightly. She doesn't answer but sees the door moving and for a second she stops breathing, hoping and fearing at the same time that Arizona had the courage to do what she couldn't.

Arizona Robbins:

She didn't know what she was doing, one second she was in bed telling herself to never be vulnerable again the next she found herself getting up and walking to Callie's room. She froze when she arrived in front of the brunette's bedroom.

It seemed that she finally snapped out of her daze once she found herself standing in front of the bedroom of the woman who had her heart the second she ever saw her. She didn't know why she want to Callie, she knew the brunette was still mad at her even after what happened between them last night. However she couldn't help herself but want to be near her. She tried to not think about her and just go to sleep but the fact that she was so close and yet so far was killing her and at one point she couldn't stand it anymore and needed to close the distance between Callie and her.

However, it seemed like she didn't think it through cause once she knocked and slightly opened the bedroom door she didn't move and just stayed there. She could her Callie shift in her bed, probably still asleep. Her heart literally stopped when she heard Callie's small voice reach her ears.

« Arizona, is that you? »

She didn't know what to do, thinking about doing something and then actually doing it are two different things and now she didn't know if she had the courage to go inside. Just thinking about the sight of Callie laying in bed half asleep made Arizona weak in a whole other way.

She heard the brunette call her name one more time and decided that now wasn't the time to be a pussy and gathered all the strength she had left to slip inside Callie's bedroom. Like she had predicted it, the sight that welcomed her made her weak in the knees. In fact, Callie was half sitting and Arizona watched her pass a hand through her head and god how she wanted to be able to feel Callie's hair again. She snapped out of her daze when she heard Callie's concerned voice asking her if everything was ok.

« Yeah, uh- I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you » she said looking everywhere but at Callie.

« It's ok, you didn't wake me » Callie started making Arizona look at her curiously. « I can't sleep either ». She just added.

Arizona just nodded but didn't say anything. She didn't even know if Callie could see her properly from the she was, in the dark. Maybe it was a good, she didn't need Callie to see how she was struggling. She knew that the brunette needed to just look at her in the eyes once to know exactly what she was feeling. It was something that she loved and hated at the same time.

Apparently she talked too soon and Callie could see her cause a few seconds later of Arizona fidgeting at the doorway and Callie was laying on her side towards Arizona and lifting her blanket in invitation for Arizona to come lay next to her.

However, Arizona didn't move. She was trying to look Callie in the eyes and try to see what was going on in her head but a las she couldn't see anything in the dark of the room. Arizona took a few tentative steps closer to Callie's bed still looking at the brunette's face. When she was close enough to see something she could see that Callie was kindly smiling at her and all the doubts she had vanished straight away. She closed the distance and still without saying anything she lay down next to Callie, her back to the brunette. Behind her she could feel Callie lay down too and she was surprise to feel her scoot closer to her. Arizona's breath got stuck in her throat when she felt the warmth of Callie's arm be draped over her.

Arizona felt Callie relaxe behind her and she soon followed her suit. It wasn't really hard since the only thing she ver needed to relaxe and feel safe was wrapped around her.

They stayed like that and didn't say anything. Soon Arizona could feel the sleep striating to take her, she knew that Callie wasn't far either and when she was almost gone she heard the brunette whisper before hearing her breathing even out.

« You don't have to always be strong with me. »

She was out of breath, but she still kept pushing and running. She had to hurry and she couldn't leave her girlfriend alone and scared, she had to be there for her, to be her rock.

She was in class when she received the call, the call that told her that Callie and her parents had a car accident and was at the hospital. She didn't know anything else beside the name of the hospital. And so as soon as she hang up the phone she went back inside her class, gathered her stuff and ran out of the door.

Callies parents where in town for the birthday of their daughter and they were supposed to go out for lunch while Arizona was still in class. When she arrived at the hospital she asked for Torres to the nearest nurse she found and of course she didn't know who she was talking about.

Luckily, a few seconds later, she heard her girlfriend's voice down the corridor yelling at someone about not having any informations about her father.

She didn't waste any time and ran toward the sound. The sight that faced her when she arrived almost broke her heart. Callie was standing calling at the nurse but Arizona could see that the brunette had been crying form the puffiness of her eyes. She ran her eyes up and down her girlfriends body trying to see if she was injured in any way and released a relieved sigh when she saw that she only had a cut on her forehead and besides the psychological trauma she seemed fine.

The second Callie saw that Arizona was here she ran to the blonde and fell in her arms. Arizona held her tight, telling her that she was here and that everything was gonna be ok. Arizona held Callie in her arms as she broke down. She was being a rock for her girlfriend, being strong for the both of them, a good man in a storm. That's what she was right now. Strong.

In the end Carlos was ok, like Arizona promised. And during the two weeks he spent at the hospital, Callie was there with her mom taking care of him and Arizona never far behind taking care of the love of her life.
