With my bags packed and sitting by the door, I made one last sweep of the apartment I shared with my uncle making sure I had everything.

"Close?"

"We have those."

"Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, and bathing supplies?"

"Yes, yes, but we should stop by the store soon to pick that up soon. The hairbrush is in your back-pack and stuff to shower and bathe within the duffle bag."

"Pillow? Pictures of Qrow and Dragon? Headphones, scroll, scroll charger, laptop, and the books we picked up? Oh! Do we have the maintenance kit and the extra mags that go with Crescent Rose?"

"Yes on all accounts, Ruby. Stop panicking. You'll do just fine. Do you really think I'd let you forget anything? I am your instinct. It's my job to help you. Now get your butt in gear! We need to get a move on if we're going to stop by the store to pick up toothpaste. Not to mention we need to stop by the café to remind that old bat that we changed our working schedule, again."

"Thanks, Mini."

"That's what I'm here for Rosie, now get a move on!"

After taking one last look at the barren, quiet apartment that both my uncle and I live in I lifted my bags up that would be a problem for any normal person but because of my training, I lifted with ease. I walked out and stated down the hall before remembering i didn't lock the door and quickly rushed back to do so.

"Qrow would kill me if I left the apartment open to being broken into, or worse, bugged."

"He would now get going!"

"Right!"

After making my way down the river and taking a right across the well-worn bridge I had officially crossed into the "Bad" part of town as Humans and Faunus called it. Yes, there were some shady people here, but some well-respected people also came down here. I know this because both types of people came into the 'Eats & Treats Coffee Shop?¬タル where I worked.

It was a small place squished between two old abandoned buildings that made it look smaller then it was. The inside held a handful of booths on the right wall and tables spread throughout. There were the front counter and the polished floor. The wall behind the counter was paneled with a deep brown polished, almost black, Oke that shouldn't have been possible.

When I walked in I was greeted with the smell of fresh ground coffee and sweet pastries. I could smell the first few eggs getting cracked for the regulars that came in and I could hear the boiling water. I could also smell something faint, almost metallic mixed with something sulfury.

"Hey! Roz! What are you doing here? You don't come in till later!" I heard from the back.

"I need to talk to talk to Harold," I replied as I walked back to greet the shop's local wolf.

I opened the door to the kitchen and was a little concerned when I saw him eating chocolate.

"It's only been a few hours Ben, and you're already stuffing chocolate down your throat?"

"Hey! You know I hate this! I love chocolate too much to wait. Besides, my wolf ate something really bad last night. It still hurts."

"What'ed he eat?"

"I don't know, but whatever it was it was big, and it burned. I can still feel the fire down my throat."

"I'm sorry."

"I know," His face brightened a little, "Hey, why do you need to see Harold?"

"I need to remind him that I changed my schedule for school again."

"Right! You got into Beacon! I haven't congratulated you yet! Congrats!"

"Thanks, but to tell you the truth I only took the position to find someone, and to honor my mom," I looked away remembering the two people I cared about most.

"Well, it's still a big thing. When do you leave?"

"I need to be on the airship by nine-thirty." Silence followed after. It was concerning.

"What?" I asked.

"It's nine."

"Now?" panic filled my voice.

"Yes. You need to run."

I hopped off the counter and grabbed my bags making a break out the door yelling back at Ben to tell the bat about my schedule change for me. Before I made it to the corner of the street I activated both my semblance and powers to launch my self in the sky to try to beat the clock. I could feel my self-split into several different pieces but remain as one and the firmer warm brize I could make surrounded me. I was in such a rush I didn't even notice that I'd picked up another person until I landed.

"Ow!" I wiped around and came face to face with stern green eyes framed by purple glasses.

"Mrs. Rose!"

"I'm so sorry!" I rushed to help up Mrs. Goodwich from where I'd accidentally dropped her.

"Are you alright? Did I hurt you? I'm so sorry!"

"It's alright. I'm fine. I'll assume you were in a rush and that is why you picked me up in your semblance."

"Yes ma'ma," I looked down in shame at how careless I had been, not only at using my semblance and not noticing I had someone else but at using my powers around someone who, as far as I knew, had no clue magic existed.

"Mrs. Rose, look at me," Goodwitch said, "It's fine. This is a one-time thing and I was running late also, so you helped me out, just don't ever do it again, especially without my, or anyone else's permission," at that she walked away and boarded the airship.

After getting setteled I made my way to a window and looked out as we flew to our newhome away from home for the next four years.

"I'm super hyped for this!" I heard next to me. At first, I didn't know if the person was speaking to me or not. Most people tended to ignore me or not know I'm nearby. Perks of being raised by a preditor for the first bit of my life I guess.

"I'm overjoyed as well," a girl with snow white hair and a small frame said as she approached the two of us.

"I'm Yang! My dad and uncle, we're super happy when I got accepted. They went to Beacon as well and when I asked them how teams were decided the said we would be launched off a cliff and forced to fight to assert dominance within our team."

"Weiss Schnee of the SDC. That seems a bit barbaric for the first thing we'll be doing," she held concern but she spoke with confidence.

"Well, they may have been joking," a girl with jet black hair and a bow on top of her head spoke up from behind the three of us.

"That," Yang paused in thought, "would make so much sense."

Looking at the three girls in front of me I was taken aback. Looking at the three of them I saw magic flowing through them. It didn't seem like they even knew it was there.

"I'm Blake."

"Yang," she stuck out her hand for Blake to take.

"Wiess Schnee," she seemed to resist the urge to curtsy and Blake looked a bit repulsed at finding out who Wiess was but she quickly recovered.

"So," Yang looked back at me, "What's your name? You look a little young to be coming to an academy."

"Mini! Help!"

"Tell them your name. Confirm you're young, but assure them you are just as capable. If we play there nurturing instincts, and if they do indeed have magic, we can use them to help us," Mini's smooth nurturing voice entered my head.

"Ruby, call me Roz, and ya I'm kinda young. I got a special request from the headmaster three days ago, but just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm useless!" I puffed out my cheeks attempting to come off a bit like a child in hopes one of them would try to mother me in some way.

Before one of them could respond we docked and the doors opened. We were instructed over the intercom to gather our things and get off.

"Looks like we're actually doing this. Well, I guess I'll see you around," Yang called as she got off. I stepped out after getting my things and I was a little in shock.

"This feel's like the cave, Mimi."

"It does."
