Don't you just love it when an author posts an author's note at the end of a story that you believed is finished? Especially one that hasn't been updated for years?
I have an idea, but first, I need to tell how the idea came about first.
You see, between working on 'Daughter of Mal' and working on college assignments, I started reading this book called 'Fairest of All: The Tale of the Wicked Queen'. This book is kind of like the backstory of the Evil Queen and how she became evil.
Now I'm going to try not to SPOIL the plot, especially since I haven't finished the book yet.
Essentially, she marries the King and is a loving step-mother to Snow White. Evil Queen genuinely loves the King and Snow White, but these three sisters—Odd Sisters?—tries to cause strife among the family, starting with gifting the 'Queen'—as the Evil Queen is called that in the book—a mirror because Evil Queen's father was a mirror maker. Turns out her father's soul is trapped in the mirror because of a deal he made with the Odd Sisters.
After her husband's death, Evil Queen starts to become obsessed with being the most beautiful and fairest in the land. To stay healthy or something like that, she has to ask the magic mirror who the fairest is. Her father hated her and believed that she was hideous, so hearing her father say time and time again that she was the fairest boosts her ego and somehow makes her more beautiful each time she asks.
The original story-line of this fanfiction is Evie being the daughter of the king and half-sister of Snow White. I want to further that idea by bringing elements from 'Fairest of All' into this fanfiction.
Here is my idea:
After the king's death, Evil Queen has an audience with the Odd Sisters to learn control of the magic mirror. They show her how to do so and they've given her another gift, which is all the potion and spell making stuff the Evil Queen is known for. A couple days later, Evil Queen discovers she's pregnant with the King's baby. Unable to handle the thought of two children of the King constantly reminding the Evil Queen of her loss, she concocts a potion that keeps her from furthering in her pregnancy indefinitely. However, when the potion's magic starts to fade, it will be at least four years before the Evil Queen has her baby.
The rest of the original tale will play out and Evil Queen will be sent to the Isle of the Lost for her crime. Almost like the Odd Sisters are trying to torture her, a smaller version of the magic mirror is sent with the Evil Queen. Since she is living under the magical barrier, the potion's effects are no longer in place so four years later she has Evelyn—or 'Evie', as she will be called. The Evil Queen will tell Evie of her tale as she grows older.
Before her daughter leaves for Auradon, Evil Queen gives the magic mirror to Evie, but makes a simple request: destroy the mirror. Evil Queen warns that the mirror will plague her mind with thoughts of doubt, so she should never use it.
Obviously, Evie uses the mirror more than once, but her grandfather's spirit never speaks to her when there is someone with her. When she is finally alone, the mirror speaks. The Slave taunts her about how no one will know that she is the half-sister of Snow White. If she tells, then her beauty will start to fade just like it did with her mother because her sister is the fairest in the land. If she doesn't, her flawless beauty will remain.
In other words, Evie has a choice. She could choose to tell everyone she is the sister of Snow White and she will regain her royal title, BUT she will slowly start to lose her beauty until there is nothing left. Not telling anyone means she can keep her beauty, but her royal title will still be gone and she could not have a relationship with her half-sister.
At first, Evie decides to remain quiet about her relations and of the magic mirror. She tries to refrain from using the mirror, but she could still hear the Slave's voice taunting her. Evie has a last minute study session with Doug for their Chemistry test the next day. She can hear the slave's voice throwing insults her way, saying the boy will never like her, that she's internally ugly, etc. Evie throws a slight fit with Doug trying to comfort her. Evie refuses to say anything—
But Doug already knows everything.
Doug knows because Snow White told him in a letter about a week or so after the Core Four arrived in Auradon. Snow White knows because the Evil Queen told her in a letter a day or so before Snow White sent the one to Doug. Since the mirror was no longer in her possession, Evil Queen's mind began to clear to the mental state she had before her husband's passing. Realizing she put her daughter's life in danger, Evil Queen warns Snow White so she could help her sister.
But THAT is only the beginning.
What do you think? Should I keep the story as is or should I 'revamp' the story to my new idea? Let me know what you think, but the story 'Meeting' will be deleted as a result, though elements of the sequel will eventually be involved with this story. If I get enough reviews saying 'yes', this story will change to . . .
'Zero Relations to the Fairest of All'.
