Hey everyone~ Sorry about the long wait, it took me a while to figure out how I wanted to end the chapter. I own nothing but the idea. Thanks again for Quartic Moose for beta-ing my story!
Damian scowled as he walked down the steps into the Batcave. He had just gotten back from the Titan's tower. He had left a little early when he had gotten Father's message about Phantom. A boy in Arkham that Father wanted to help. What a waste of time; honestly there were plenty of other things they could do.
"Father, I am back from training at the tower. I got your message about the current mission; is this really necessary?" He looked around the Batcave and saw a very normal sight; both Father and Drake focused on their respective computers. Grayson was passed out in his chair, most likely the result of too many consecutive hours of research.
"Welcome back, Damian. Yes, we are going to be rescuing Danny. If you feel like helping us, that would be great." Bruce said, rolling his eyes at this son's stubbornness. Damian frowned and took a step forward only to stop as he noticed something that wasn't supposed to be here. A small green and slightly glowing puppy lay in the middle of the room. A small toy was lying next to it. What was a small dog doing in the Batcave, green or not?
Cujo sat up as the new person entered the room. None of the other humans were alarmed by the small human's presence so that meant he was a friendly. Cujo's tail started wagging. Maybe the new human would play fetch with him! The hyper human had been playing with him until he fell asleep. Cujo understood the importance of naps so he didn't mind. The human would play with him again when he was done napping. Until then maybe the small human will play! Cujo picked up his squeaky toy and trotted over to the human. He dropped the toy in front of his feet and yipped excitedly. Throw it! He thought excitedly. He liked this underground room, there was plenty of room to run around. The best part was that nobody screamed when they saw him; these humans seemed fine with him being around.
Damian looked down at the dog. What did it want him to do? As the dog simply stood there staring at him Damian decided that it wasn't worth his time. Honestly what was with the useless puppy and why was it in the Batcave? Damian glared slightly at the dog and simply walked passed it. He hardly even noticed that he kicked the dog's toy as he walked passed it.
He had better things to do than pay attention to some random dog; like talk his Father out of this useless mission. There were better ways to be spending their time and resources. The boy was in Arkham and he probably belonged there.
"Father, I do not see any benefit for us to do this. We do not know this Phantom nor have we even heard of him before. Our time would be better spent cleaning up Gotham, not trying to get people out of the place we put the bad guys." Damian frowned. Then he looked back at the dog. "Also why is this green canine here?"
Without looking up from the computer Drake started speaking "It's Danny's dog, apparently."
Cujo looked at the toy that the small human had kicked. Had he not seen the toy? Why didn't he play with him? He would try again! He picked up his squeaky toy and ran up to the small human. He jumped up on his hind legs and put his front paws on the boy. He let out a small bark through the squeaky toy.
Damian glared down at the small dog. How annoying could the creature get? He kicked his leg a bit to push the dog off of him "Get off me stupid dog," he growled out.
Damian watched as the dog's demeaner suddenly changed. It dropped the toy and its eyes suddenly glowed red. The dog started growing to immense heights, in fact he grew at least ten times his size. The dog let out a low angry growl.
Tim turned around to see what the commotion was about when he saw the monster dog that used to be the cute little Cujo. The dog's name made much more sense now. His mind went back to the note Dick had shown them.
"Play with the dog, play with the dog, play with the dog!" Tim shouted to Damian.
Damian however hadn't seen the note so had no idea what Drake was talking about. Not wanting to make the dog angrier he simply stood there really still. What kind of person was this Phantom if they had a dog like this?
Suddenly the forgotten squeaky toy flew across the room. Cujo saw the toy and his attitude changed once again. He happily ran after the toy, shrinking to his original size without a care in the world. Cujo had already forgotten he was angry in the first place. Tim and Damian turned to see where the squeaky toy had come from. They saw Dick sitting there giving them a small smile.
Tim's shouting had woken him up. Cujo's enlarged size must have been what E had been talking about by not making him mad. Noticing the questioning looks he was getting from his brothers he gave them a shrug. "What? He likes to play fetch." Then he spun back around and started working on saving Danny again. He smirked, really what was so hard about playing with a puppy?
