A Bat-Cat Fourth

Wayne Manor

"Master Bruce, your popcorn is ready," Alfred said as he walked into the study with the big bowl in hand and placed on the table.

"Thank you Alfred, you did put extra butter on it, right?"

"As per your request, sir. Is there anything else you need?"

"No, I'm good. I hope you have fun at the fireworks."

"I most certainly will, Master Bruce," Alfred replied then turned and left the room.

While most of Gotham's citizen were going to the city's fireworks display or partaking in other Fourth of July activities, Bruce decided to stay in and have his own version of Fourth of July fun, watching his Independence Day DVD.

Yesterday, Alfred tried to convince Bruce to attend the fireworks display with him. But Bruce made it quite clear that this was how he wanted to spin his day.

The Menu screen popped up and Bruce was just about to select the special edition version of the film, when a familiar voice came from somewhere behind him.

"So this is how you're spending the Fourth of July, huh?"

Bruce stood up and spun around to see Selina standing near her usual entry spot.

"Oh, hey Selina. I thought you would be downtown watching the fireworks or running your usual errands."

"I can take a break from pickpocketing for one day and besides, why watch a bunch of fireworks when I can spend the day with my one and only billionaire?" Selina replied as she made her way over to the couch and sat down.

Bruce did not object to her making herself at home in his house as though she owned it. She kinda did in a way and Bruce knew that trying to protest would be futile. He was wrapped around her pinky after all.

"In case you're wondering about the movie, it's called Independence Day."

"Duh, Bruce. I can read," Selina said referring to the DVD case on the table before stuffing a handful of popcorn into her mouth."

Bruce thought about telling Selina about the surround sound speakers he had Alfred set up on the sides of the TV, but he knew that she was more interested in watching the movie with him than hearing him brag about his speakers.

Not wanting to keep Selina waiting any longer, he sat down next to her and started the movie.

As they got to the part in the opening scene where the mothership passed over the moon on its way to Earth, Bruce and Selina wrapped their arms around each other and thought the same thing.

Who needed fireworks when they had each other.

AN. The idea for this story came to me while I was watching my Independence Day DVD last night. It's a personal Fourth of July tradition of mine.
