"Salazar! What are you doing here?!" A startled young woman gaped up at the face of her dearly beloved in surprise, "My father would kill you if he found you here!"

Salazar smiled smugly, "That's IF he ever finds me which, knowing him, is unlikely."

The girl shot him a look as she glanced around nervously before dragging him into an alley. Once properly hidden Honor, the daughter of the local blacksmith, gazed up into the eyes of her love.

Gazing down at her from under the deep hood of his cloak were the shining green eyes of the man she had secretly wed just last summer. His face was pointed and proud though he did bear a slight scar just below the left eye from where he father had once attacked him upon discovering his ability many years ago. He was rather proud of that scar though he would never admit such a thing.

They had married secretly due to the fact that they both knew her father, a man with no magic, would never accept the marriage with the man standing before her. No, he would never accept the man who taught magic at the school the villagers whispered about in hushed voices in a mixture of awe and distaste.

Magic still was not accepted here though Salazar and his friends were trying with all they could to prove to the people that the magic could help them. That had been the reason her father had attacked Salazar, he had come for his daughter. To her relief, Salazar never got to finish his request to teach her. The last thing she needed was for her father to know she could do magic.

"Salazar you can't be here, we agreed to meet tonight by the lake didn't we?" Her eyes were pleading and begging him to understand.

He merely gave a mischievous grin, "I know darling, I just couldn't wait any longer to see you again when I knew that in just a few hours you'd finally leaving this… place… with me." She sent him a little glare, "I also couldn't help myself, I wanted to try once more to reason with your father so that you might have a chance to this honestly…"

Honor grinned, "You were willing to risk your pretty face again just for me to say that I was married honestly with my father's blessing?"

Salazar glared, blushing, "Something like that I suppose."

Honor's grin fell away, "Well good luck then because there is no chance that he will ever let it happen. He hates you and he would never accept it, believe me. "

Salazar sighed heavily, "I know, it's just…. I wanted to do something honestly for you; I don't want you to regret this. I can't offer you anything, not really- not yet. The school is only just starting off and really, I'm not sure how long it will last but if you're willing to stay then I just want you to be happy…. With me."

Her grin returned with tears in her eyes, "Salazar..." she whispered softly, "If I wanted anything else but you then you would know. I don't want anything but you."

His eyes sparkled as he smiled softly down at her before leaning down to kiss her lovingly, "Then I'll see you tonight at the lake. Don't be late."

She squeezed his hand before turning towards the street and trying not to grin as he pulled her back to him to kiss her once more before pulling away and disapparating with a quiet little crack. Schooling her features, she walked back into the street and tried with all her might to pretend like she wasn't about to leave it all forever.

She smiled fondly at the old man working carefully on a new set of clothes for a few young women busy discussing amongst each other the horrors of the strange people who seemed to insist on visiting the old man for new robes. He was a kindly man who had never told a soul of any of the secrets he ever came to know such as the strange request from the blacksmith's daughter the day before.

He smiled up at her as she approached, "Miss Honor. Salazar visit again today?"

She laughed quietly at his uncanny ability to guess what was on her mind, "How do you do that Malkin? How do you always know what happens around here?"

He gave a secretive smile and gave a playful wink towards her and they shared a quiet laugh together as he stood on shaky legs and shambled over to the counter of his shop to retrieve her order.

As he made his slow way she couldn't help but feel a little sad, of all the people in this damned village she would miss him the most. With his twinkling eyes and gentle smile he had always been someone she had never felt threatened by and someone she could talk to about anything. He had become a father in every way that her true one failed.

He guided her with wise words and gave her advice on what he thought was best. When he had heard of her feelings for Salazar he had been hesitant at first, unwilling for her to be hurt by him as she had been by her father countless times by either fist or fury. He wished to protect the best he could and so did by being kind and gentle while firmly asserting his thoughts. She loved him and she knew without a doubt, she would have to find a way to meet him again and help him any way she could.

He finally returned with a neatly folded package and gave her a slightly sad smile, "My best wishes to you my dear, I hope you and the young man are happy where it is that you're going."

Her eyes filled with tears and before she knew it she was hugging him tightly, "Thank you so much Malkin, for everything."

He patted her back gently with a gentle laugh, "My dear, don't cry. It has been an honor to serve you my dear."

She laughed again, "I'm going to miss you," She whispered, "I'm going to miss you so much."

He pulled away and smiled, his eyes sparkling with tears he refused to let fall, "Me as well Honor. Now go, quickly, before your father finds you and makes you stay."

She gave him one last grateful smile before wiping her eyes and hurrying back to the place she had once foolishly considered home. Once she stepped inside she quietly snuck upstairs and placed her new traveling cloak under her bed before hurrying back downstairs to prepare dinner before her father got home.

The door opened nearly an hour later and she tensed as she slowly continued distributing the food she had made to the three plates before her, "Good evening Father."

Her voice was cold and her father couldn't help but flinch at the lack of feeling in it, he knew they had a bad history, he knew that he wasn't himself when he had too much to drink and he knew that he had done things that were simply unforgivable. He also knew that even as she hated him, he wanted nothing but the best for his daughter. But that didn't mean that he understood a thing about love.

"Honor." He nodded his head coolly at her as he sat at the table he already knew her brother wouldn't be joining them at, "I have some good news."

He watched her carefully out of the corner of his eye as she stiffened at his words, "What is it Father?"

"I spoke to the Fletcher's boy down the road and we've struck up an engagement between the two of you."

She froze.

"Excuse me?" Her voice trembled with barely suppressed rage and the slightest bit of fear. Speaking against her father had never gotten her anywhere good.

"You and the Fletcher's boy are to be wed next fall. His family can offer good money, good food, nice comfort, you'll never want for anything." He spoke as if there was nothing wrong with what he was saying. He spoke as though deciding his daughter's life was a matter she should be overjoyed about.

"I'd want for nothing but love you mean!" Her voice as she spoke to him, for the first time in over six years, held something more than the cold indifference and fear. It held unfathomable rage and fury.

"What?" He asked, truly confused.

"Who wants a life without that? What's the use of all the rest if, in the end you've lived your whole life without an inkling of what it feels like to love someone? Where would I find joy? How could I be expected to bring a life into a world where I don't even want mine to be?" Her chest was heaving and her chair had flown back as she stood.

The room was unnaturally quiet after her speech and, while he didn't notice it then, the fire in the room had turned an unearthly blisteringly hot blue while the temperature dropped. He noticed neither the fire or the chill though, without a doubt, he saw the sparks that crackled across her fingers.

His eyes met hers with horrified awe, "You're one of Them, aren't you?"

Honor's eyes softened slightly as she heard the fear in his voice before hardening again, "I always have been Father, lucky for you isn't it?"

Without another word, she ran quickly upstairs and grabbed her cloak then turned to run back down when she heard the thundering footsteps hurrying up the stairs outside her door and, with one last glance around her room, she did as Salazar had once shown her.

With a sickening twist and the feeling of wanting to be sick she found herself standing beside the Lake where they had planned to meet.

"Honor?"

She turned in surprise to the voice behind her, a voice she hadn't heard in ages, "Godric."

The words were but a breaths away from not being there completely but he heard them, "Sister, is that really you? Salazar really got to you in time then? He hasn't been lying this whole time?"

Her eyes filled with tears as he rushed forward even as he bombarded her with questions and enveloped her in a bone crushing hug.

"Its me brother, he found me." She laughed as he laughed and felt happy, "It's been far too long since I've last see you Godric."

His crest rumbled with a deep laugh as he still refused to release her, "Yes well, Father made it quite clear I was no longer welcome there when I left. But enough of him, Salazar has never been one to share his secrets so tell me; how have you been?"

She laughed and struggled to free herself, "I've been fine, honestly, or at least I have been recently. Ever since Salazar and I got married things have been much easier to handle and Malkin has been ever so kind and…. Godric? Are you alright?"

His arms were holding her tightly as he stared blankly into the distance, "Godric?"

He finally pulled away though he still had a stunned look upon his face and home movements were mechanical at best, "You and Salazar are…."

"Merlin, Godric, close your mouth before something flies into it." Honor whirled again to face the voice and found herself nearly colliding with the chest of her highly amused husband.

"Salazar!"

His lips curled into a smug smirk as he faced her brother, "Yes Godric, Honor and I have been married since last summer. I would have told you earlier except that it never really struck my fancy to."

Godric turned slightly red before laughing loudly, "So you brought her here so that you could keep a closer eye on her and make sure that no other lad touches her. Smart move Slytherin."

Honor watched her husband's face with fascination as a slight tinge of red appeared in his face, "Silence Gryffindor."

Honor cleared her throat, "I'm glad you're already well acquainted but you know… I've been wanting to see his school of yours for quite some time now…"
