The following morning Caunwen woke wrapped in Gandalf's arms wishing, for just a moment, that the prophecy included only love and not struggle as well. She felt as though there was already a change occurring within her body but she was sure there was no way to tell if they had been successful. Caunwen sighed before she looked up at his face and noticed his eyes opening with a tender expression upon his face.
"I want to go with you," she stated, her voice soft but firm.
Gandalf raised one brow at her comment, "And where is it that you believe I am going, Lady Caunwen?" he asked innocently.
She couldn't help but let a small laugh escape her lips as she answered, "You forget who my father is, Mithrandir. I also have the gift of foresight, even if it is not nearly as strong. I know you wish to keep the ring here in Rivendell but I am also aware that you know that is not possible. You intend to accompany someone on a journey to destroy the ring and I wish to join you on that adventure," she explained while enjoying the variety of expressions on his face.
"I suppose you have your father's strong will as well," he commented, "You are correct in your assumptions but you must also know there is much danger involved. A danger that neither I nor your father would allow you to take part in."
She rolled over in his arms and placed her lips against his as he had done the night before. She pulled back and smiled, "We shall see about that," her tone was wicked, "What do you say we repeat the events of the evening to make the most of this time?"
Gandalf's lips curled into a curious smile as he replied, "This is truly a place I had never seen myself but I am quite glad about us. Yes, I do believe we should double our efforts for the prophecy," he stated.
Caunwen let a full laugh escape at his comment, "For the prophecy," she couldn't stop the laughter until he took her mouth with his own, pulling her on top of his body until she was straddling him.
After Caunwen and Gandalf enjoyed what could be their last time together, he left her to rest while he went to greet those arriving for the Council of Elrond. She fell into a deep sleep until the time for the Council to meet was upon her and she joined them against her father's wishes.
Caunwen took a seat next to her father. Arwen had chosen to stay away because she was never interested in being apart of the battles. Frodo was seated at a distance to her left and next to him, Gandalf. Caunwen couldn't help but attempt to steal some glances his way. Sitting beside Gandalf was the dwarf, Gimli and then Legolas. By Legolas sat Boromir and Aragorn, both men. There were other elves scattered amongst the group.
Elrond began the festivities, "Middle Earth stands on the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite or will you fall. Each race is bound to this fate, this one doom. Bring forth the Ring, Frodo," he gestured for the hobbit to stand.
Caunwen watched as Frodo stood, hesitantly, and placed the Ring upon the pillar in the center of the group before taking his seat once more. Muttering began as each person took in the sight before them. The muttering quickly turned into an argument for some thought they deserve to possess it while others believed to know the proper way to handle it.
"Enough," Elrond interrupted the battle and returned the order to the Council, "The Ring cannot stay here and it cannot be destroyed by anything except the fires by which it was formed. It must be taken to Mordor," he explained while also handing out the ultimate verdict for the Ring's fate.
Boromir stood once again, "One does not simply walk into Mordor," but his words were unable to be heard as the arguments erupted once more.
Caunwen and Frodo were the only two still sitting and observing what was unfolding before them until Caunwen was the last to remain in her seat.
"I will bring it," Frodo attempted to announce but had to raise his voice, "I will take the Ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way."
Caunwen noticed immediately Gandalf's eyes closing at Frodo's words. He moved back to stand by the hobbit's side, "I will help you carry this burden as long as it is yours to bear," Gandalf offered his aid.
Aragorn stood, "If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword."
Legolas stepped in next, "And my bow."
"You have my ax," Gimli offered.
Boromir also offered his protection.
Caunwen stood from her seat, "I will also join you on this journey. You have my knives," she added to both Gandalf and Elrond's dismay.
The other hobbits quickly appeared and joined the adventure gaining the group the title of the Fellowship of the Ring.
"Caunwen," Elrond beckoned his daughter after the Council disbanded, "What exactly were you thinking when you volunteered to join a mission to Mordor?"
She reached out and placed her hand under her father's elbow in a comforting manner, "Father, I wish to go where Gandalf goes. I am not ready to say goodbye to him just yet," she responded.
He sighed, "I can already see that you and Mithrandir have been successful in fulfilling the prophecy which means that you cannot take the risk of joining on this expedition. You will not have another chance if something were to happen," he revealed watching the surprise wash over her face.
"I still must go," she repeated more firmly, "I cannot explain it but I must stay by him. I will not share this news with him because he will force me to stay behind and I cannot do that. I am sure that I will be a distraction to Gandalf without adding this information."
Elrond shook his head but knew better than to attempt to win an argument with her, "Be safe my child."
