Welcome readers of Fanfiction to the first part of what I plan to be a three-part episode. With any luck, it could be longer. We'll have to wait until I finish it. It's going to be hard writing without Ron, but I hope you enjoy it. As for your review CajunBear, I guess so. I needed to make Gorilla Fist at least 3 parts and I didn't feel I could do that by sticking to cannon.
Gorilla Fist: Part 1
November 28, 2003
Kim's P.O.V.
"Have they figured out what's wrong with Ron yet," Monique, my best friend, asked as we were walking down the school hall to the high school cafeteria. The lunch special today was "All-You-Can-Eat" cheese pizza and many students were excited. Even though I felt the pizza tasted like cardboard, I would still have a few. If Ron were here, and not in a coma at Middleton Hospital, he would have inhaled them. As disgusting as his diet was, you could always count on his stomach. He'd won the Nacho-Eating contest last year at the Middleton Carnival.
"Not yet," I admitted, barely able to mask the worry I felt that Ron might not wake up, "All we know is that the doctors couldn't figure it out, Middleton Hospital Disease Specialists couldn't figure it out, and 5 or so of Japan's brightest Disease Specialists couldn't figure it out. He's been placed under quarantine until they can diagnose him. The CDC has been contacted and will search their database to see if the brain parasite is known of not. I'm guessing not."
"I know you're worried about Ron, but there is nothing we can do," Monique lamented, catching on to my worry. "Some of the brightest minds in the world are trying to figure out what's wrong with him."
I nodded in agreement, knowing she was right. It was hard, however, as a person who takes action, to wait. Moving forward in line, I picked up my lunch, which consisted of mystery meat, a salad, a carton of white milk, and two orders of "All-You-Can-Eat" cheese pizza, and sat down at an empty table with Monique, who had loaded her plate with nothing but cheese pizza.
Monique asked suddenly, "Where do you think Ron picked up that brain parasite that no one has been able to identify?"
"I have my suspicions," I admitted, if only to myself, "Either in Japan or on our last mission. If it was the latter, I can't imagine why I didn't pick it up."
"Tell me what happened on your last mission," Monique urged.
"Can't. It's confidential information," I revealed to both of our disappointment, "I've tried to get in contact with them, but they've been avoiding me."
I had been trying to get in touch with General Goldfien, but he was either super busy or avoiding me. Doubly so if the parasite had originated from Area 51.
After finishing her large stack of pizzas, she left to get some more. Shortly later she ran back screaming in horror. She ducked under my seat to my surprise.
Thinking this was all an over-exaggeration on her part, I teased, "All that just because they ran out of cheese pizza?"
"No," Monique declared crawling out from under my chair, "It wasn't the Cafeteria Lady shorting me either. It was that."
She pointed a finger near the Cafeteria wall and I suddenly saw it. It was some sort of silhouette with green and blue colors that appeared to move in constant vibration. The silhouette was seen by other students and quickly dozens of them screamed.
Moving cautiously but feeling no threat, I made my way to just behind the screen that separated the cafeteria staff from the brave high schoolers, who were content with letting me pass. I dealt in all kinds of weird and everyone knew that. And this fits that bill.
As I got closer, I heard some sort of chime coming from the silhouette. That wasn't nearly as weird as it suddenly began writing something on the wall in mystery meat.
"R. O. N," the mass of brave students read as the writing slowly took place.
"Ron Reager," I muttered in confusion, arguable the smartest male at Middleton High. The only other Ron I could guess that someone would contact would be Ron Stoppable, but he was in a coma right now. I was mistaken this time as the students' read out, "Ron Stoppable. Find me."
It then disappeared and caused a mass panic that emptied the cafeteria in a matter of seconds. I stayed behind wondering who could have contacted Ron and how I could help. Who was I supposed to contact now?
Due to the panic that the silhouette had caused, the rest of the school day was canceled. After explaining the sitch to my parents, who were surprised that I had come home early, I found myself calling Wade shortly after I got back.
"Hey, Wade," I greeted, "I need you to review the security footage from the Middleton High School Cafeteria. If possible, see if you can't use facial recognition on the ghost. Is there something in the mystery meat that could help explain what happened?"
"A ghost," Wade repeated back skeptically, "Sure. I'll get back to you on that. Some bad news, according to Ron's medical records the doctors somehow found the subdermal tracking device we planted on him. The GPS has been turned off or taken out. It's not a big deal now, but it may be in the future."
'Crap,' I thought, 'I suppose it would have happened eventually though.'
I then wished Wade luck with the school video and hung up. The next thing for me to do was to head to the hospital. Visit Ron. He needed to know what was going on.
"Mom," I cried, "Can I get a ride to the hospital to see Ron?"
"Sure. I'll take you," Mom offered, "How long do you want to stay?"
"Not too long," I replied, "I have homework I need to get done if there is school tomorrow."
After grabbing everything she would need, we headed out the door. When we arrived at Middleton Hospital, Mom headed one direction while I headed to the front desk.
"I'm here to see Ron Stoppable," I directed to the front desk person, a college aged African American with curly brown hair.
"Stoppable. Stoppable," the African American muttered to herself as she sifted through the computer. She finally found him and announced, "He's in quarantine. That's on the 4th floor."
I thanked the African American and left for the stairs. I climbed up 3 flights of stairs before arriving at the 4th floor. Opening up the door, I headed over the nearby desk where another front desk person, this one blonde, was working.
"I'm here for Ron Stoppable," I announced.
"Sign," the blonde ordered, slipping the visitors sheet through a glass opening.
I was about to sign when I paused in surprise at one of the names on the list. Wade Load. I guess it took Ron falling ill for him to finally leave his room. I quickly signed my name in cursive and was directed to his room, 403 B. A nurse opened up the door and another nurse helped me put on my Hazmat Suit for my visit. After this, I headed inside.
There Ron was, still in a coma, hooked up to so many devices one would have thought he was dying. I scanned the monitors as I passed; heart rate, O2 sat, brain activity, kidney function, liver function. They also had several needles going into veins. They were clueless as to what ailed Ron, not that I could blame them.
"Hey, Ron. It's me, Kim," I greeted standing over him, "Today was All-You-Can-Eat double cheese pizza day. I know you would have loved to have participated in that. Monique tried to duplicate your appetite, but it just wasn't the same. Something weird happened today. Some sort of ghostly silhouette appeared and wrote a message for you in mystery meat. Obviously, you're not going to be able to tell me who you think the silhouette is, but it was an 8.5 on the weirdar scale."
I let out a chuckle and continued, "I saw that Wade came into see you recently. I can count on my fingers the number of times I've seen Wade in real life. Hopefully, when you wake up, you'll be able to remember that visit. I really miss you Ron and I hope they figure out what happened to you."
I sat with Ron in silence for what felt like half an hour before I told Ron I was going to get started on my homework and that I hoped to visit him again soon.
Several hours later, after doing some homework and wracking Anne's brain for a diagnosis – of which she admitted she had seen the parasite but was unable to identify it – I headed up to my room and was caught in surprise by the female in black, the one that had helped me defeat the toxic snowmen. She stood in the middle of the room, almost as if she were waiting for me, and had her mask off revealing shoulder-length black hair and jade green eyes.
"I know you," I exclaimed in surprise, "You were on that video and got stabbed in the shoulder. You even helped me against the toxic snowmen. What was your name again?"
"I'm Yori," the girl introduced, refreshing my memory. Yori bowed at me and added, "It was an honor to work with you."
That's right! Her accent now, that must be Japanese. So that mountain range must have been in Japan, near Yamanouchi. Was Yamanouchi a ninja school? No, that can't be. Ninjas don't exist and Ron definitely wouldn't have been recruited into a ninja school.
"How did you get in," I asked. I then decided I didn't need to know, as it was most likely a form of breaking and entering. "Nevermind. What are you doing here?"
"We need your help," Yori admitted, "We actually needed Ron's help, but we've since learned he's in a coma. You might be the next best helper."
"Who's we," I asked confused as to why Ron was needed and not me. "Do you know who scared everyone at the high school cafeteria with a ghostly silhouette?"
"Hai," Yori admitted with a nod, "That was Sensei. We believe he has been kidnapped by Monkey Fist. As for who we are, that's on a need to know basis."
I exhaled loudly through my nostrils, frustrated that I wasn't seeing the whole picture. So, I asked Yori several more questions, mostly dealing with Yamanouchi, ninjas, Japan, and Ron. She remained secretive, however, deflecting most questions under the guise of said information being classified. I'd have to have Wade look into Yamanouchi, see if I couldn't figure out why Yori was so secretive. It was just a school, wasn't it?
"So, where do we start," I asked, taking the direct approach. Surely I would get an answer, right?
Almost in response to my query, I heard the familiar chime from the cafeteria earlier today. The silhouette appeared again and spoke, saying, "Find Yori. Get Rufus. You must stop-" The silhouette suddenly disappeared, to my surprise.
"What? Where," I questioned, trying to figure out where it had gone or what had happened. "Was that Sensei? What do we need Rufus for?"
"Yes that was Sensei," Yori confirmed, "Your second question might be classified information I'm afraid. Is it going to be trouble getting Rufus back?"
Probably. I had been trying to get in contact with General Goldfien, but he was avoiding me. I told Yori this, but just as quickly realized Global Justice might be able to help. I told Yori to give me a few minutes while I called someone. Yori waved goodbye and headed out of my room, while I searched for a holographic projector that Global Justice had given me to contact them after Monkey Fist had first struck. When I had found and sent the request to meet in person, I let Yori come back in.
"So, just to recap," I began for my benefit, "Your Sensei is kidnapped and you needed Ron's help. You won't tell me why you needed Ron's help though, so you came to me. How was Sensei able to communicate with us via creepy silhouette?"
"Astral projection,*" Yori replied in the same way one might tell you they traveled here by plane. "Will you help?"
"As soon as my contact gets back, yeah," I assured, "Where are we going?"
Again, Yori dodged the question stating confidential information. I wasn't surprised, she had been giving me that a lot, and focused on astral projection. I didn't think it was possible to communicate, but maybe it was. I doubt she was lying.
10 minutes later, the doorbell rang. Unsure as to who could be at the door, I headed downstairs and opened it. There on the other side were the two Global Justice Agents to transfer me to Golbal Justice. I bade goodbye to Yori and was directed into a white van where I was blindfolded.
After spending what I guessed was 10 minutes on the road, the van finally stopped and my blindfold was taken out.
Reacting to the change in light, I squinted and followed the two Global Justice Agents through a literal maze before finally reaching an oak door. The door opened and I was greeted by Betty, the director of Global Justice.
"Kim," Director Betty greeted endearingly.
"Betty," I greeted in the same tone. I saluted her and continued, "For reasons unknown to me, I'm going to need Rufus for a mission I'm going on. I assume he is still with General Goldfien?"
"Actually, we've retrieved Rufus from Area 51," Director Betty corrected to my surprise, "But there's a problem. He's still a giant."
To say I was surprised when I saw Rufus was an understatement. I wasn't surprised. I was stunned, if only for a little bit. Somehow Global Justice was able to communicate with Area 51, but Area 51 was found unable to return Rufus to normal size. Could they comment on the brain parasite that Ron picked up? Also, how was I going to bring Rufus on a mission when he was that large? Getting him out the door and into the city would be a challenge in and of itself.
"What happened to shrinking Rufus," I asked, deciding to take that direction instead of commenting on the brain parasite, "Would I even be able to bring Rufus on a mission?"
"Area 51 didn't have the technology to fix him," Director Betty began, "Nevertheless, Goldfien's scientists say Rufus will return to normal size within the next 72 hours. As for bringing him on a mission, that depends on where you need to bring him. If possible, we can be covert about it."
"72 hours is not as bad as I would have thought," I admitted in a low tone so Director Betty might not hear, "I got to make a phone call. Can you lead me to the room?"
Director Betty nodded and led me down the hall to a series of doors where all secure calls could be made. She opened up one of the doors, wished me luck, and left.
Entering the room, I grabbed the phone and placed a call home, hoping to reach Yori. If she wasn't at my house, I had no idea where she might be. Fortunately, she was still at my house, probably chatting with my parents. I explained the situation to her and she told me Rufus would be able to go to our first stop, the Amazon Rain Forest. She didn't explain why we were going there, however, to my confusion. Last I heard Monkey Fist was in Japan. I thanked her and quickly hung up. I then exited the room and searched for Director Betty.
When I found Director Betty, I relayed, "My first stop is the Amazon Rain Forest. I am going to need Rufus for my mission, the details of which I have not been told yet. Do you think I could borrow a GJ jet to transport Rufus across the America's?"
Director Betty thought about it for a little bit before agreeing. The only condition was that I would be accompanied by a crew of 5.
"I think that will be okay," I muttered just loud enough for Director Betty to hear, "I don't expect any trouble, but I haven't been kept in on the details of the mission. What's the latest on Monkey Fist?"
"Classified," Director Betty answered, earning a sigh of frustration from myself, "But I think I can tell you he is not in the Amazon Rainforest. I honestly can't think of anything that would bring you down there."
Director Betty and I then arranged a time that one of their Global Justice jets would pick me us up from my house. I was then escorted back to my house where I ran into Yori and told her the good news.
"May I ask why we are going to the Rainforest," I asked again, still confused. If Sensei was captured by Monkey Fist, it would make more sense for us to go to Japan.
"That's on a need to know basis," Yori reiterated.
I shook my head in frustration and could feel myself getting angry at the lack of being kept out of the loop. Every mission I had gone on in the past had been Wade filling me in on the details of the mission. It was a new experience and I didn't like it.
"Do you know who Sensei wants us to stop," I asked in an attempt to quell my anger, "He disappeared before he could finish the sentence."
"Aye," Yori admitted, "The Crimson Ape."
Even though it was such an arcane name, I couldn't help but feel as if I had heard of that name somewhere. But for the life of me, I was unable to remember. So, I decided to contact Wade.
"Hey, Kim," Wade greeted cheerfully, "What's up? This about the silhouette?"
"No," I answered quickly, "Well, actually, I don't know. Have you ever heard of The Crimson Ape?"
"Of course," Wade replied surprising me. He then followed up with disappointing news when he finished with, "It's an imp in the video game The Last Remnant."
"Anything else," I asked curiously, "Yori, the Japanese girl who got stabbed in the shoulder, said she thinks her Sensei was captured by Monkey Fist and that we need to stop someone called The Crimson Ape."
"That's the only one I know about," Wade revealed to my disappointment, "I'll scour the dark web and Montgomery Fiske's online archives. See if I can't find anything. I'll get back to you." With that, Wade hung up.
I then tried to learn some information regarding The Crimson Ape, but Yori either didn't know much or was withholding information. She had been tight-lipped for some reason, but I just had to accept it. She was able to tell me that Sensei knew more about it and that the Crimson Ape was a rival of the Great Blue, whose identity she knew but refused to tell me.
My nosiness and insistence to know the confidential information may have been the reason for our silent fight to the Amazon Rainforest. Rather than talk to me, she sat in meditation for almost the entirety of the five and a half hour flight. When we had arrived at the proper coordinates, of which Yori had entered herself, the jet hovered in midair, awaiting instruction on what to do next.
"Naturally we will come in via parachute," Yori explained, grabbing a parachute pack that was against the wall and jumping out the plane. I and four other agents took her lead leaving the pilot and Rufus still aboard the jet.
After landing in the forest I kept a sharp eye on my surroundings for any dangers. There were no snakes or anything I needed to worry about, but a Jade Monkey Idol caught my eye. I nearly discarded it until almost forgotten memories suddenly revealed themselves and a trail of words came to me. Jade Monkey. Monkey Fist. Mystical Monkey Power. It was at that moment that I knew why Yamanouchi had 'recruited' Ron. He had Mystical Monkey Power and was keeping it a secret. Why?
This is the end of chapter 1. I will try for an update by the end of 2019, but if not, part 2 will hopefully be posted by January or February at the latest.
*Does anyone have a better explanation for Sensei's silhouette? I don't think astral projection quite covers it.
