*I don't own Jane and the Dragon or its characters

This one is for SunRise19, who really deserves longer fics, but is sweet enough to comment. Hope you enjoy!

The sun rises over the mountain, bringing the warmth of the day, birthing new dreams, new possibilities and hopes to every moment of every day.

On this day, the forest rustled uncharacteristically, disturbed by outside forces determined to intrude.

Uncontrolled winds sent locks and strands to cover his eyes. His journey was not far, though it required extra effort and his free time expended.

He had remembered a few days prior she had lost a shoe. Ridiculous the reason it was, he had overhead while passing in the halls which echoed her humorous tones.

Of course it was minor, nothing of great importance. Why should it have mattered?

He remembered, what it had witnessed. Many battles which steps were stepped, those sparring matches which heels had dug, and flights flown to far away places he could only dream to see.

Why then was he wasting his time and energy?

She would care, she would appreciate it, and perhaps for a moment she would care for him too. He knew it carried its consequence, defeat so easily met, and yet he bothered about it.

So while the sun greeted the valleys over here and over there, he allowed its radiance to permeate and warm him thoroughly, feeling determined and somehow renewed by the birth of the day.
