Chapter 18

Reborn

It's dark. My head is throbbing. I slowly start to open my eyes, only a small amount. My vision is blurred as I do so. What happened? I can't seem to remember. I can feel my legs being dragged along the stone path, perhaps a cave? I fade out of consciousness as the world goes black. Has anytime passed? I can hear voices. They're too distorted to understand. I try to peel my eyes open again. I hear the sound of rusty metal being scraped. I watch as the stone floor flys towards my face and I crash hard onto it. I wheeze as I try to regain my breath.

'Why can't I move? Wait where am I?' I closed my eyes trying to remember the last time I was conscious. Yami's limp body falling onto me came to mind. I forced my eyes all the way open rolling onto my back. I was unbearably dizzy. I pulled myself up, back pressing to the wall behind me.

'What happened to Yami!? What happened to my friends!?' I started to focus on my surroundings. I was wrong about a cave. This was more of a dungeon. Dim light only from the torches. My heart stopped as I looked around realizing this was some sort of torture chamber.

'What are they going to do to us?' I froze in horror. I placed my hand down beside me. The feeling of warm liquid surrounded my hand. I quickly dragged it away and opened it. It was covered in something red. Blood. Fresh blood.

'Don't look. Don't look. I don't want to see!' My body betrayed my mind as my head slowly twisted to the left. My body became cold as ice. There was a body of a girl. A girl with red hair that was soaked with blood. Her pale face and vacant emerald eyes staring directly at me. The slit across her throat no longer leaking any substance.

"MAYA!" She was gone. There's no way she could hear me. She has already been dead for some time. I pull her still body into my arms and hold her as I wail. I rock with her back and forth. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. There's no more pain now." The sound of two wooden doors with metal accents crashing open startle me. I squeeze Maya's dead body tighter. Anzu crouches in front of the jail bars.

"Well hello little one. I see you've found my most recent victim." They way she spoke made me cringe. Her airy high pitched voice.

"How could you? What did Maya ever do?" I whispered. She burst out with a girly laughter before gripping the bars sadistically smiling at me.

"If you think that's bad don't turn around!" She kept laughing as she backed away from the bars. I didn't want to see, but I had to know. Yami. I slowly turned to see three dead body's scattered on the floor. Joey, Duke and Tristan had stab wounds all over them. 'Where is Yami?' I cried silently. I turned back to Anzu wide eyed. The wooden doors slammed open as two men dragged an unconscious body inside.

"Where do you want him?"

"Cuff him to the cross, I'll deal with him in a moment." The two men nodded and cuffed the person to the cross and exited to the room. I leaned passed Anzu to see Yami cuffed to the cross. I cried harder. I was so happy he was still alive. I was terrified of what would happen to him.

"Why? For the love of god why? I don't understand Anzu."

"Y'know you're really fucking stupid YOU SELFISH BRAT!" She kicked the bars getting me to jump back, still holding Maya's body. She stared at me with a dark hatred filled face. She said nothing, but gestured to the left. I cranked my neck to the side to see... what? Another Anzu!? She was knocked out leaning against the wall alive.

"W-What? I don't understand. How can there be two Anzu's?" Kira rolled her eyes.

"My name is NOT Anzu. It's Téa and that," She swung her hand towards the left side of the cell. "Is my twin sister. Now before you barrage me with a million of your dumb questions, let me explain a few things." I was very attentive. If I was going to die I wanted to know why the hell this happened. "How come you've never seen me? Anzu didn't even know of my existence until today. Thanks daddy." Her tone was sharp at those words as she stepped away from me. "As for why your mummy and daddy needed to die, that was your fault." I glared at her.

"My fault?" I growled out.

"Yes, your fault." She spoke her next words very happily. "Family is the most important thing in the world is it not?" I waited for her to continue. Her face twisted into one of pure anger as she lunged herself forward gripping onto the bars projecting her voice at me. "IS IT NOT!?" I slammed back into the wall slowly nodding my head. She smiled with wide eyes as she stepped away again leaving me shaking. "Several years ago, There was this girl. She loved to dance. One day, while dancing in the park she tripped and fell while practicing ballet. A few boys came over to her and started to point and laugh. Another boy was there. Her so called "friend". The girl cried and cried as the boys made fun of her and her friend said nothing. He did nothing to help, but watched as she suffered."

'This sounds way too familiar.' I recalled a memory of Anzu tripping and falling as a few boys laughed at her. At the time I was too shy to say anything to them and ended up leaving her there. A voice from the side made us both turn.

"Is that why you killed Yugi's parents!?" Anzu had awakened and was chained at her wrists to the wall. "We were only kids back then! We even laughed about it! How could you do that!?" Anzu started to wail. "HOW COULD YOU FUCKING DO THAT!?" Anzu's scream echoed against the stones of the dungeon. I sobbed hard feeling remorseful for ever accusing her of any of this.

"Yugi! I'm so sorry!" I went to tell her it wasn't her fault but Téa cut me off. She grabbed her head violently jerking her limbs around as she spoke.

"Don't apologize to him! Everything I did, I did for you! When he rejected you and broke your heart, I took something from him! His grandfather! I've always been watching you! Im your angel!" I could here the frustration rising in Téa's voice. "I'm your other half!"

"You're the embodiment of evil that wears the same face as me." Anzu spoke in a quiet tone. "You are no angel. You're a monster. A monster that has haunted me my whole life." Téa began to shake and scream.

"Anzu st-" I was cut off by Téa.

"I'm all you have now!" Téa's voice broke.

"How could you take everything away from me? Why would you be so cruel?" Anzu was still calm as she whispered. "You are a murderer." Téa started to hyperventilate.

"Anzu stop!" I tried to silence her.

"I would rather die then be alone with you in this world!" Anzu screamed at her.

"THEN SO BE IT!" Téa pulled a shiny silver gun from the interior of her cloak and shot Anzu in the chest. I screamed and covered my ears as I dropped Maya's body and ran towards Anzu. She fired several more shots before the ringing in my ears dulled. I lamented as she struggled in my grasp gasping, blood erupting from her mouth. She gripped my jacket with her fingers, straining the muscles in her face, as she spasmed. I saw the pain in her eyes. She was going to die and there was nothing I could do. There was only one thing I could say. I clenched her tight as I whispered.

"It'll be over soon." More tears poured from my eyes landing on Anzu. She choked on her air as she tried to speak. I hushed and hugged her. My hand cupped her cheek. A few more times she jerked before the last of her air left her lungs, her body becoming listless. Her eyes closed. It was over now. She was gone. I mourned her silently until aloud shriek made me tense and twist to the side. Téa had dropped the gun away from her. She was holding her head staring at the ground screaming. After a few pain filled shrieks she reached a shaky hand through the bars to Anzu.

"Wake up! Please wake up!" Never ending tears fell down her face. She looked at me with a pleading expression. It was like she wanted me to help. I shook my head and gave her a sympathetic look. I didn't want to send her over the edge again. Anzu made that mistake. She collapsed to the floor crying.

"I'm sorry. She's... Gone." I spoke softly. She immediately stopped crying leaning up onto her hands and knees. She looked directly into my eyes with a blank expression.

"Because I killed her?" I nodded very slowly. "I'm a murderer. That's right. That's all I am." The slight humanity that I thought I saw in her dissipated as fast as it appeared. Her face turned dark again as she stood up walking over to Yami tied at the cross. I placed Anzu on the floor. I followed her down the cell.

"What are you going to do!?" I started to panic. She looked at me with a dead expression.

"The only thing I've ever known. Making others suffer." I cringed as she pulled a knife out of her sleeve dragging it along the bars making it ting and tap until she reached the end. She stood in front of Yami. She placed the knife on the table grabbing a wooden bucket filling it up with water at a tub. She threw the water over Yami making him groan regaining consciousness.

"Please! Kill me first!" I grabbed the bars frantically trying to rip them open. "Yami! I'm so sorry! I love you!" Yami turned to me with a dazed look. He smiled at me before rolling his head to the other side groaning. Téa turned to me her face still vacant. She opened her mouth to speak, but only air came out so she turned back to Yami who's tan skin blended in with the dim light. Téa raised the knife, it's metal reflecting the fire from the torches. Yami closed his eyes. She swung down into his left shoulder piercing his skin. His mouth opened with a silent scream but the blade was ripped out before he could get a sound out. In rapid succession she stabbed him over and over in the left shoulder, down his arm and into his wrist. I squeezed the bars so tight hoping and praying that some how they would break and I could save him, but I knew better than that. Téa lifted Yami's chin so his pain filled face reached hers.

"Have you lost the feeling in your left arm? Why don't we start on the other side?" She ran her fingers over his left arm, nails ripping his wounds as she made her way to his other side. Yami gritted his teeth refusing to scream. "I predict you'll break. Right. About. Now." She punctuated her words as she slammed the blade into Yami's upper arm twisting it with her last word. His eyes flashed open as he screamed and gasped. I covered my ears and convulsed as I screamed with him. I didn't want to hear this. Not my from lover. I'll never forget these pain filled shrieks for as long as I live even though I won't be alive for much longer. She cleaved his arm down to his wrist again. Yami no longer held in his voice. I wanted this to be over. I didn't want Yami to die, but I don't want to watch him suffer anymore. Téa glanced my way before slamming the knife into Yami's chest three times leaving the blade penetrated to his flesh. She backed away and walked up to the cell unlocking it, no expression resided on her face.

"I'll be back for you later. I think letting you live might be more of a punishment then killing you. Unfortunately I have no doubt that you would just take your own life." She left through the wooden doors as the locks clicked after they closed. I slid the bars open running to Yami.

"Yami!" I choked on his name as I ripped his cuffs open. His lifeless body fell on top of me. I rolled him onto his back.

"I love you my aibou." He whispered. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." I buried my face into his neck sobbing. "Yugi." I leaned up to look at him. He struggled as he reached into the lining of his jacket and pulled out the last piece of the millennium puzzle. He put it into my hand smiling at me. His eyes closed and his head flopped to the side, his hand sliding from mine smacking into the floor. He chest no longer struggled for air. His muscles no longer jerking from the pain. He was dead. Yami was dead. I leaned down and kissed his lips while they were still warm. While the colour still remained in his face. I felt empty again. I opened my hand and stared into the last piece of the puzzle. I slid it into the slot. Blinding light surrounded me as I was taken from the dungeon and into a different dimension. I was in a world of white light. There was no beginning and no end. No floor and no roof. No walls and no boundaries. Tears still stained my face.

"Hello!?" I called out as my voice echoed into nothingness.

"Hello Yugi." I turned to see a mystical being. An armoured woman who wore a white and gold cloak covered in gold accents. She had giant gold wings and a gold headdress.

"W-Who are you?"

"I am Horakhty. I am a god. The God of light to be exact." She was definitely a god. Her beauty was boundless. "I am an ancient Egyptian God who watches over the other realms of the universe purifying the darkness. Unfortunately the darkness and evil has become out of control since I was locked inside the puzzle."

"Why am I here?"

"You have been chosen. The prophecy has foretold of a begin of light solving the puzzle. With the completion of the puzzle I may grant you a wish." My face brightened.

"Bring my friends and lover back to life." It was a shot in the dark, but I had to ask.

"Is that truly what you want?"

"More than anything, Horakhty."

"Very well. Bringing back the dead isn't an easy task though. I will need your light to be able to do that."

"What do I have to do?"

"You must purify the other realms of the darkness before I can help you. Do we have a deal?" If there was any chance of saving everyone I had to try.

"Deal."

"So let it be written so let it be done. The world you are from, time will not pass. In the new realm your body will be reborn of one of virgin purity." I blushed at her words. She snapped her fingers and the white endless room started to fade into sky and clouds. I looked down and realized there was a village below. I slowly started to fall.

"Horakhty! What am I supposed to do!?"

"To see with eyes unclouded by hate." With that she faded away from existence as I plummeted into the land underneath.
