It had been several weeks since Ethan's accidental overdose, the phone call long since forgotten and both Ethan and Cal had thrown themselves back into their work.

'Doctor Hardy, my office, now!' Connie ordered marching through the busy department. Ethan shuddered, beginning to feel nervous as he shuffled behind Connie into the office. 'Shut the door' Connie commanded before sitting down. 'Right let's just cut to the chase, we all know that this department is lacking staff and as a teaching hospital its piteous that there are no junior staff members so I have found us a new junior doctor to replace Doctor Munroe. As I'm sure you will agree that Dr Chao is not suited to mentoring so I thought maybe you would be up for the task' Connie explained.

'I would like to, if it's okay with you, I mean, I hope I can live up to your expectations' Ethan stammered.

'You'll work alongside your brother when he gets back from his break. Would you like the job or not?' Connie asked rolling her eyes.

'Yes, I'd love to' Ethan smiled.

'Well that's good, our new junior doctor is just coming in now' Connie said standing up and leading Ethan to reception.

'Hello, you must be Mrs Beauchamp, I am Kiera Groome, your new junior doctor' the young woman greeted the clinical lead.

'Ms Groome, this is Doctor Ethan Hardy, he will be your mentor here. If you have any questions I am sure he will help. Doctor Hardy, can you show Ms Groome where the scrubs are, I'd like you both to cover cubicles today' Connie stated before walking off through the department.

'Hello Ms Groome, if you'd like to come this way, we'll start off in the staffroom and we'll have a quick chat before taking to the floor' Ethan smiled.

'Please call me Kiera, Dr Hardy' Kiera smiled in return.

'Ah Ethan, please' Ethan chuckled. 'So what brings you here?' Ethan asked.

'I moved closer to home after university because my mother is ill. I heard that she has a degenerative illness so I wanted to stay close by' Kiera explained.

'Oh I'm sorry to hear that' Ethan murmured.

'I decided to become a doctor specialising in emergency medicine because I think its incredible what doctors can do for patients and how much care and attention they put into their jobs' Kiera explained.

'Well we better head out and see some of them. If you have any questions at any point feel free to ask and if you want to assist with a procedure or you see that I am doing something that doesn't appear familiar or is wrong, please tell me, sometimes us doctors can make mistakes or do things in different ways which isn't always a good thing' Ethan chuckled as he picked up a stack of folders. 'Choose one, then we'll go' Ethan suggested.

Kiera selected a set of notes. 'Okay Mr Thompson in cubicle three with a dislocated shoulder, this could be quite fun' Ethan smiled leasing the way. 'Oh before I forget, you might need this' Ethan said pinning the name badge on her scrubs.

'Thanks, now I feel like a proper doctor' Kiera grinned excitedly. She shuffled into the cubicle behind the young doctor to where their first patient was waiting. 'Hello Mr Thompson, I'm Dr Groome, but please call me Kiera and this is my colleague Dr Hardy. He will be supporting me as its my first day here, but don't worry I will do my best to help you' Kiera smiled warmly at her patient.

'Hi, please call me Joe' the patient smiled in return.

'Can you tell me how this happened?' Kiera asked pulling on some gloves.

'I tripped at landed straight on my shoulder, its quite painful' Mr Thompson explained.

'Dr Hardy would you be able to sort out some pain relief for Joe and a sling for once we've relocated his shoulder' Kiera asked.

'Certainly, I'll see to it, could you please conduct a primary survey and ensure there are no other injuries' Ethan instructed. Kiera set to work examining the shoulder and asking about any other injuries.

Ethan returned with a tray of equipment. 'Dr Groome, if you would like to do the honours?' Ethan suggested handing her a syringe of morphine before setting up the entonox.

'Joe, I'm going to inject this into your arm, its just morphine it should dull the pain and make it more comfortable, then I'd like you to breathe in some entonox which will just help relax you before we do the procedure' Kiera explained.

'Which method are you planning on doing to relocate the shoulder?' Ethan asked as he wrote down some notes.

'I'm going to do a simple method I learnt at university, it involves using a smooth motion to adjust the position of the joint before jerking it slightly upwards to pop it into place, its seen to be the more painless method' Kiera explained.

'Perfect, off you 'pop'' Ethan chuckled making Kiera giggle.

'Okay, if this gets too uncomfortable Joe, please just let me know' Kiera said taking his hand in hers. Her slender fingers curling around his hand tightly before slowly rotating the joint, with one swift movement the shoulder clicked into place and Joe was not in much pain at all.

Ethan left the cubicle with Kiera in tow. 'That was fantastic, Dr Groome, I don't think I could fault that, nor would I be able to do a better job' Ethan commended her. Connie appeared behind him.

'What's this?' She asked.

'Dr Groome, just relocated a patients shoulder using a method which resulted in less discomfort for the patient and her bedside manner is amazing' Ethan explained.

'Well done Dr Groome, it appears you are settling in well here. I'm sure with Doctor Hardy and Doctor Knight to assist you, you will make a fine addition to this department' Connie smiled before heading into her office.
