Chapter 1
The lunch bell had just went off, and the class was quickly evacuated. I packed up my things, and went to make my way to the cafeteria, when the construction teacher, Mr. Morgan, called me back. I sighed quietly, before making my way over to his desk.
"Y-yes sir, you wanted to see me, did I do something wrong?" I asked, fiddling with my hands. I had always been a very quiet, reserved person, never really one for conversations with other people, except with my close friends, and people I could talk to indirectly, like in video games. I was THAT kind of kid, you know, the one who always generally stayed to themselves, sitting in the back of the room. Mr. Morgan sighed, rubbing his temples, waiting for the rest of the students to clear the room, before turning to me.
"How many times do I have to tell you, you don't have to call me 'sir'." He said, with a good natured smile. "Anyways Chris, I've been noticing that you haven't quite been your self lately, is everything alright at home?" He asked, looking at me with a look of concern. You see, my parents have been fighting a lot recently, and the way they have been going at it, I fear they may get a divorce. They always try not to argue when I'm around, but it's hard not to overhear it. I shrugged, and nodded, not wanting to mention it to him.
"Y-yeah, everything's fine, I guess I just haven't been getting enough sleep lately." I lied, and I could tell right away, he didn't quite believe me. Nonetheless, he nodded.
"Very well, but keep in mind, my job isn't just teaching students, if you ever need to talk about something, I'm here, so don't hesitate to talk to me if you need to." He said, before sending me on my way. I nodded, thanking him, before grabbing my bag, then making my way to the cafeteria. I walked through the hallways, opening up my book bag and reaching inside, looking for my lunch box. Without paying attention to where I was going, I accidentally bumped into someone. When I saw who it was, my heart dropped. Sitting on the ground, rubbing her leg, was Jenny, the girl I had a crush on since fifth grade. In my eyes, she was drop dead gorgeous, with her long, curly blonde hair, and her emerald green eyes.
"Who the hell are you staring at!" She said, glaring at me. I flinched, and held out my hand to help her up, but she slapped it away.
"I-I'm sorry Jenny, I guess I wasn't paying attention." I said, stuttering a little bit, a blush on my face. She scoffed, rolling her eyes and picking herself up off the floor.
"Yeah, well whatever, next time, watch where you're going!" She said, before storming off in the opposite direction. I sighed, pulling my lunch box out and continuing to the cafeteria. When I arrived, I looked around, trying to find Aden, my best, and probably only true friend. After spotting him, I sat down, setting down my lunch box and taking my food out. I stayed relatively quiet, except for saying a quick hello. Noticing my subdued attitude, Aden tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey Chris, you look like someone whose cat just died, what's eating you dude?" He asked, setting his sandwich down. I sighed, not really wanting to talk about it, but I knew I could trust him.
"Eh, same old same old... My parents still arguing, my crush still treating me like dirt..." I said, absently taking a bite of my Bologna sandwich. Aden rolled his eyes.
"DUDE! Come on, what do you even see in her?!" He asked, giving me an incredulous look. I turned towards him, about to say something, before I began to think about it.
"You know, I'm starting to wonder the same thing. She's so pretty, I guess I just overlooked the way she treats me." I said, gaining a sympathetic look from him. He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Look, you'll find someone eventually, but you deserve better then her... hey, are you going to eat that?" He asked, pointing towards the pudding cup I had in my lunch box. I rolled my eyes, sliding it to him. He grabbed his spoon and dug into the pudding cup like it was best thing in the world. I chuckled, pulling out a soda.
"Hey, do you want to come over to my house after school to play some Call of Duty?" I asked, as he finished. He sighed, shaking his head.
"I can't right after school, I have to drive my sister to work, but I can when I get back." He said. I nodded, and went back to eating. After lunch we both went to math class, having the same class.
The rest of the day went by quick, and before I knew it, the dismissal bell went off. I grabbed my things and started walking home. I decided to pick up a few sodas and snacks, as I planned to do some online gaming. When I got home, I went right to my room, seeing that my parents weren't home. I set my book bag down and hopped onto my computer, booting up a multiplayer game of CoD, putting on my headset. The game started up pretty quickly, and in no time at all, I dived right in, gaining a few kills. Out of nowhere, I was killed by a random grenade falling at my feet.
"What the hell... Nice shot!" I said, turning on my mic. I heard a crackling sound from the other end, and a voice a little to close to their mic.
"Holy shit, did that actually hit you?!" The kid asked, sounding slightly older than me. I flinched, as his voice was loud in my ears.
"You're a little too close to the mic, but yes, nice shot." I said, turning my headset's volume down slightly. He apologized, saying that he was still trying to get used to using a headset. We played for another ten minutes, before I got a pop-up on my screen. "What the hell... Hey, did you get a pop-up just now?" I asked, hiding in a corner and clicking the read button.
"No... Why, did you?" He asked, after a few seconds of fumbling with his headset. I didn't answer right away, reading the pop-up.
"Y-yeah, which is strange, because I am pretty sure my anti virus blocks them..." I said, quickly scanning the link in the pop-up, just to be safe. When it finished, it came back safe. "There's a link in it, I scanned it, and it came back clean. Should... Should I click it?" I asked, suddenly feeling nervous.
"Sure. I mean, if it came back as safe, it can't be a virus. Hold on..." He said, and a few seconds later, he sent me a quick friend request. "Clicking that link will most likely close this game, so if you accept the friend request, we could play more in the future." He said, and I clicked the accept button, before clicking the link. The other kid was right, as my Call of Duty session was closed out. A small window browser was opened, and a small questionnaire popped up, shocking me, as the questions seemed to fit me perfectly. Thinking this was some kind of joke, I answered yes to all of the questions. Then, I froze at the last question.
'Do you sometimes wish you could live in your own ideal world?'
For some reason, this question made me think. Right now, my life was ok, I mean, sure, I could stand to change a few things, but would I really go as far as to say I would want to live in a different world? I stared at the screen for a little while, before shrugging, clicking on yes. For the first few seconds, nothing happened, then the lights shut off. I sighed, grabbing my phone and a rechargeable flashlight. We lived in an old house, and the electric was faulty, but we didn't have enough money to get them fixed. Annoyed, I opened my bedroom door, only to find the hall lights on. Confused, I turned back to my room, and was shocked to find that my monitor was on. I walked up to it, starting to feel woozy. I stumbled, grabbing onto the back of my chair. I looked at the screen, only to see a single sentence written on the screen, the last thing I was able to see before blacking out...
'Welcome Christopher, to Minecraft, your own ideal world!'
