About two weeks pased since the recruitment of Terra. Events at the tower were normal for the most part. Everyone always went about their usual routine, except for Eagle. He kept finding it harder and harder to sleep at night. He'd have nightmares of his father just standing there, laughing at him. As a result, Eagle would always wake up at around 11:00pm and simply meditate. Today was no exception. He woke up at 11:00, his heart racing, his sweat pouring down his face. He rubbed his eyes in frustration.
"I really need to get more sleep," he said. "But I really don't have any alternatives...time to meditate again.."
He got out of bed and began making his way downstairs. He was halfway down the steps when he heard someone clearing their throat above him. He turned around to find a very tired and very agitated Raven.
"Oh, hey sister," said Eagle. "Sorry if I woke you up."
"I've been awake," said Raven. "I've been awake for a week watching you walk past my room and head downstairs to do whatever you do"
"Meditating," said Eagle before Raven snapped at him.
"DON'T INTERRUPT ME!" she yelled. Eagle widened his eyes and nodded hastily.
"Continue," he said. Raven closed her eyes and sighed before speaking again.
"You're my brother, Eagle. You're my family. I feel very out of character for saying this, but I want to open to you, but in return I want you to open up to me. I don't want you to spend a bunch of sleepless nights sitting down here and meditating without telling me what the problem is, okay?"
Eagle looked down, then looked up at his sister and nodded.
"Good," said Raven. "I'm giving you a free pass tonight, but if it happens again, you are to tell me as soon as you wake up, understand?"
"Yes, Mom," Eagle said sarcastically. Raven surprisingly chuckled. Eagle suddenly hugged his sister. Raven was taken aback by such sudden movement, but she allowed it. She even hugged back. Eagle smiled a little.
"Love you Raven," said Eagle.
"I love you too brother," said Raven. She kissed her brother's forehead in reassurance then went back to her room. Eagle smiled and went back downstairs. Once he was there, he sat down in the middle of the living room floor. He then let out a small sigh.
"Looks like I'm going back into the abyss that is my mind," he said. "Eh, it's not so bad. Alright..Let's begin."
Eagle closed his eyes and entered his meditative position. He muttered the three words before he was transferred into his mind. He opened his eyes to find that he wasn't in the tower, but rather in a flat realm surrounded by fog and darkness.
"And once more, I find nothing," he said. He let out a sigh within his consciousness. He then heard something hissing from the edge of the mindscape. He tensed up and began circling around, looking for the source of the hiss.
"Who's there?" he asked. "Reveal yourself!"
The hissing continued, echoing in every direction, making it impossible for Eagle to determine where it was coming from. He stopped moving for a moment, and he determined that the hissing was coming from right behind him. He turned around and there it was. Staring at him, bearing his face and four glowing red eyes, was the Demon inside. A normal human being would be shocked and scared at the sight of their inner demon. Eagle was not normal, and he was only half-human. He simply shrugged.
"So you're what is causing my lack of sleep?" he asked.
"I am not," said the Inner Demon. "Well, not entirely. I wake you up during your nightmares, yes, but that is only to prevent you from doing something irrational."
"Irrational?" Eagle said, taken aback. "What would I do that would be considered irrational?"
"Letting Father get under your skin, which would then cause you to try and use your powers to attack Trigon, which would allow him to consume your power, thus setting him free and allowing him to take over the universe."
Eagle opened his mouth, but then slowly began to close it.
"Yeah, that is actually pretty bad," he said. "But wait, you're my inner demon! Why would you not want me to set Trigon free?"
"Oh, it's not that I don't want him to be set free. I just don't want it to be at the cost of my life, alongside yours."
"...Yeah I guess that's a reasonable argument," Eagle replied. "Then I suppose that you have some kind of plan to prevent such an event from happening? I mean, you've obviously been trying to prevent it, so you must have some kind of plan."
"Not a concrete one, no," the inner demon answered. "For right now, I'm just keeping you away from him until I can come up with a detailed strategy."
"...Why not ask Raven and her friends for help?" asked Eagle.
"Because this involves them as much as it involves you," he said. "You really wish to endanger our sister over these matters?"
Eagle looked down and thought hard about it. On the one hand, Raven just admitted that they need to open up to each other. But on the other hand, if he did open up to Raven about his nightmares, he could be putting her in danger of getting hurt, or worse. He let out a sigh and looked up.
"No, I don't," he said. "She's my family. She's everything to me. But how the Hell will we even be able to stop him if he does break free? What would we do then?"
"Well, there is a very old, but powerful form of magic that was made specifically for taking down high-class demons like Trigon. There's only one book that contains the necessary spell needed to stop him, and it's not in this town. You'd have to somehow convince your new friends to leave the city and look for it."
"Yeah, that might be tough," Eagle responded while scratching his head. "But, I always do like a challenge. I'm sure I'll come up with a credible solution to that problem. Just give me a little time."
"Time might be the one thing we do not have," said the Inner demon. "But I believe it is now time to get to the outside world. Raven is about to wake up."
Eagle opened his eyes and sighed. He stood upright and pretended to yawn as Raven was stepping down. Raven looked up at Eagle.
"So you finally got some decent sleep?" she asked.
"Yep," said Eagle. "Turns out I just needed to reach into my mind and find what was keeping me up. That happened to be my conscience."
"Oh," said Raven. "Well, would you like some herbal tea?"
"Tea sounds lovely, thank you."
As Raven was making the tea, Eagle looked up at the ceiling, his mind dwelling on the ancient magic that could possibly defeat Trigon. He couldn't help but chuckle.
"An ancient magic...how ridiculous."
/Hey guys. I'm so sorry that this took so long to make. Hell, you probably already forgot this existed. I've been too busy and I've been lacking for other projects. Please do forgive me!
