note: something happened when I first posted this chapter. it got completely messed up. I hope you like it.
It had been a very windy day. There was a typical fall storm heading in over New York and it was supposed to be right over New York City over the weekend. The weather forecast advised everyone to stay inside. Christine comes home after a long day of work. She tries to call Mac as she walks into the elevator. He doesn't answer. She sends him a text. It is reading: home now. How fare out is you? Can't wait to see you." Once she gets into the apartment she takes of her shoes and hangs up her jacket. She walks into the kitchen and finds a bottle of wine and opens it. She pores too glasses. She looks in the refrigerator to see if they have any snacks stored. She realizes that the light is out in the refrigerator. While she is searching for snacks, she hears footsteps in the apartment. She turns around and is expecting to see Mac come in from the hallway, but she can't hear any footsteps anymore. The apartment, except for the kitchen, is completely dark. There is a small light from the moon lighting up the kitchen but the rest of the apartment is completely blacked out.
"Mac?" she calls out.
No one answers. She walks to the entrance, but no one is there. She gets a bit worried. She opens the door to the bathroom. There is no one there. Now she is worried.
"Mac?" she calls out loud. "it is not funny."
She is back in the living room. She grabs her cell phone and tries to call his cell. She can hear it in his jacket that is hanging in the entrance. She comes back into the Livingroom. She is scared. She can feel someone is in the apartment, but she doesn't know who. The apartment is dark. She hadn't realized until now that she never turned on the light in the Livingroom when she came in. She hears footsteps in the kitchen and grabs her phone from her pocket instead of turning on the lights. She calls Jo.
"Jo. I think someone is in the apartment." Christine is whispering into the phone and she is scared.
"Christine where are you right now? Have you called Mac?"
"I can't reach his cell. It is here in the apartment and someone is here, but I can't find him."
"stay where you are. I'll be there," Jo says and hangs up.
Christine can feel someone behind her and she turns around and trying to hit the person in the dark.
"get away from me." She screams.
"Christine it is me." Mac's calm voice says. She can feel his arms around her.
"Mac. Don't ever do that to me again." She cries into his chest.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. The power is out in the entire building because of the storm.
"no, I took the elevator up," Christine says.
"It runs on a backup generator. They try to conserve the power by blackout the apartments." Mac explains.
"don't ever scare me like that again." Christine almost sounds angry now.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I was doing something, so I didn't hear you come home."
"what where you doing? Christine asks curiously. Mac takes her hand and leads her to their bedroom. The bedroom is light up with candles and on the nightstand is placed two glasses and a bottle of wine.
"oh my gosh, Mac," Christine says and turns to look at Mac.
"I figured we could use a blackout for some quality time."
"That sounds pretty good to me." Christine places her hand on his face and kisses him passionately. Christine notices a nice smell from Mac.
"is that a new cologne?" she asks.
"Yeah, it is the one you gave me." He says. She leans in and kisses him again. They lay down on the bed together. There is some low romantic music playing from a small speaker in the corner of the room. Everything seems to be perfect for a couple in love. Until they are interrupted by a sound coming from the front door. Mac grabs his weapon from his safe. He orders Christine to stay in the corner of the bedroom and grabs a flashlight. He hears whispering voices once he gets into the living room. He turns off the flashlight, so he can surprise the intruder once they get into the living room. He can hear at least two people. Once they enter the living room, he turns on the flashlight and points his gun at them and yells "NYPD Identify yourself."
"NYPD." Is the answer back from a familiar male voice. Mac points the flashlight at the man's voice. It is Detective Flack and behind him is Jo. They all put their weapons down. Mac looks really annoyed with his two colleagues.
"what the hell are you guys doing here?" Macs ask annoyed. Jo and Flack put away their weapons.
"Christine called me." jo says and walks further into the apartment along with Mac and Flack. "She said there was an intruder in the apartment," Jo explains clearly confused about the situation.
"There is a blackout in the building. She didn't know that. She didn't know I was me who was in the bedroom when she came home." Mac explains.
"she told me she couldn't reach you on your phone," Jo says confused.
"My phone was in my jacket." Mac sounds annoyed.
"where is she now?" Flack asks concerned.
"Christine?" Mac calls. Christine comes out of the bedroom. She has put on one of Macs old marine t-shirts. Christine walks over and stands next to Mac. Mac is wearing a pair of sweatpants and no shirt and Christine is wearing one of Macs old Marine shirts and a blanket around her so she doesn't get cold. Christine is holding the corners of the blanket in her hands and as she wraps her arms around Mac's neck and while she stands next to him. the blanket wraps around Mac too. Mac starts to feel like a teenager again who has been walked in on by his parents while secretly having a girl home.
"I'm sorry Jo. I should have called you and told you it was a false alarm. I was scared when I first heard footsteps in the apartment."
"It is alright Christine. I'm glad it turned out, to be a false alarm."
There is an awkward silence. Flack has a big smirk on his face. He has figured out what was going on before they showed up.
"okay Jo I think our service is unwanted, so I think we should leave." He says with a big smirk. Jo looks at the couple and gets the same realization when she sees the lights from the candles that are coming from the bedroom.
"right. Have a good night." Jo says politely with a smile to mac.
"no doubt," Flask says with a big smirk.
"get out of here," Mac says annoyed but still, he can't keep back a smile. Once they hear the door closes behind the detectives Christine wrap her arms around his neck.
"I'm sorry Mac."
"hey. I'd rather you call them once too many times than you don't call them and they're really was something wrong. And I know they will always come and help you."
He leans in and kisses her while he has his arms around her and his hands resting on her lower back. he still has his firearm in his hand.
"Mac…" Christine says and interrupts their kiss. "could you please put your gun away? it really freaks me out that I can feel it against my back."
"sorry. I'll put it away." He says with a smile and they walk back to the bedroom to continue their romantic evening.
